The next "forecasting" is the offseason personnel matters. In essence, who do we elect to retain? Who resigns? what positions do we target? Who do we draft? These are the topics that will fill the boards and our discussions until the first snap of 2012 football.
You've seen my optimism. You have read me suggest that, despite the juander of juan more year of the defense, we should be very close to the number juan defense next year...
Or will we? Let's ponder this a moment... The idea is that the eagles will do the "right thing" and resign the guys who made positive contributions. They'll listen to the fans and re-up guys like Mathis, Landri, Schmitt, and even DJax who had a terrible 2011, but who we would still embrace with open arms... But let's not forget the 2011 season, where we drafted lots of rookies and the free agency was stymied until the lockout was settled. We were certain that, due to the lack of off season training, the eagles would surely retain as many players as possible. How many did we resign? At first, zero. A couple guys were picked up to fill the roster at the end... But if that happens this year? We lose a pro bowl LG. We lose a huge contributor at DT. We lose one of our stellar WR's...(at least, we feel good when he's in there... especially when receiving punts from the giants). IF WE DON'T RESIGN ANYONE - We will be hurting for DL. We will need a good WR (draft pick out of first two rounds). In essence, our pleading and projecting for a round one LB pick goes right out the window. Check out the roster. the only "position" unaffected by the eagles FA's is LB. And if you don't think we will "Let it Ride" at the LB position, you obviously were not awake in 2011... So we have bigger issues to be concerned about than Castillo returning. We may be restocking the shelves again... And that means the same LB's.
