I dont know
what we are all expecting anyway, its not like he offers anything up. This will be just a confirmation presser where he tells everybody what they already know.

Nope
he runs it like any other head of company. Go listen to any other company, team, business and the PR people will always say everything without telling anything. I dont fault him for it, especially since we all know how this is it by now.

Puppet-like Castillo
But I doubt that Reid lured Bowles to town with anything less than absolute control over the secondary — much like Washburn has over the defensive line. And while that might bring better schemes and technique, it also establishes the second of Castillo’s underlings who actually have more power than he does. Juan’s role is rapidly reducing. Presumably he still has control over Mike Caldwell’s linebackers (for better or worse) and playcalling duties (mostly worse) — but that’s all.
By removing Castillo further from on-the-ground responsibilities, Reid has addressed the symptom of poor coaching without removing the cause — the lack of an experienced defensive coordinator who can actually take control of the whole defense. Until that changes, I will remain pessimistic about the unit’s future.

So
maybe Castillo is going to coordinate the defense as a whole, and not coach the specific areas himself. Crazy talk, man…

I work in a company where the manager doesn’t actually do the work, he manages the work process and the individuals do the work. There are two kinds of managers: micromanagers and hands off kinds. The micros get people in there who buy into their ideas and will carry them out. The hands off-ers will see what he has to work with, or will hire based on talent and not ideology, and will tailor his approach to fit the team.
Both can work, both can fail. JC seems to be more the latter where JJ was the former.
"Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body."
― Seneca
Yeah that’s a good observation. I don’t think JJ and Washburn would have gotten along, BTW.
2011 New York Giants- Worst NFC Champs Ever

The bigggest mistake any company/team can make
is to try to replace the old boss with his exact copy. You cannot, since genius is so personal, replace Steve Jobs with another Steve Jobs. You have to accept that he’s gone, and find the best person you can to lead what he left behind.
JJ was a great DC, and I miss him, but some fans seem obsessed with hiring as exact a repleca as possible, with zone blitzes, gruff demeanor, etc. You can’t do that. You have to get a new type of person. Maybe that will be JC, he hasn’t done badly at all, but the whole tone of “Let’s get a JJ deciple” or what not is just misguided.
"Difficulties strengthen the mind, as labor does the body."
― Seneca
Remember when the Redskins had that complex offensive play-calling system? If I’m remembering correctly, Zorn wasn’t trusted with the offense, so they delegated powers to an assistant, who would check in with another assistant, etc., and then that call would get back to Zorn, who would then deliver the call.

Well yeah, but there were extenuating circumstances there. They were being led by Vince Young who did all he could to suck. They just got off a beatdown of the Patriots, then travelled across country on 4 days rest. Promptly after that game the NFL announced they’d never do that.
And I really meant at the end of the year when they could’ve turned on each other and given up. They didn’t.

I guess it MUST be Vince’s fault that the wr’s tip / bauble the ball into the other teams hands. Multiple times in that seattle game .

I'm sorry,
But if you’re a professional football player, there’s NO extenuating circumstance for giving up.
Not for one second of one play of one game. You stop when you’re too hurt to play, or the whistle blows.

by Saidrick on Jan 31, 2012 2:13 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
what's destroyed?
You guys are nuts. New England, the “top standard”, doesn’t even have a D coordinator. Their D also sucked a lot worse than ours did. The Packers, “favorite to repeat”, also had a sucky D yet they almost went undefeated. The Giants, “in the superbowl again”, got essentially shut down by our D.
Who do you want instead that will magically fix everything? It’s a TEAM thing. Look at some actual analysis (ie Brian Soloman’s site) and you’ll realize it’s not Juan, the Offense had horrible meltdowns, ST choked some huge plays, etc. Also if you shake things up again you’re taking a step backwards by default, and then the same sht about Gelling, and Learning Systems comes into play again.
I, for one, am glad Lurie doesn’t listen to message board posters.

You claim that new England’s d and green bay’s d both are “sucky”. Well our fucking fabulous defense gave up more runs of 40+ yards than BOTH of those defenses combined.
Don’t buy the total yards bullshit arguement . That topic and why it’s a myth has been well covered.
It’s all about stopping the run when the game is close. We could not do that this year when we faced teams with any talent at running back this year.

cmon guys...
Do you REALLY think he offered Spags anything less then the DC position ?
He offered him the job and spags turned it down because New Orleans offers a better opportunity. Reid cant SAY this because it would make Castillo look like a second choice, which he is, just like last year. (although last year he was probably the dead last choice because no one wanted to work with washburn)
Exactly, why is everyone pissed that Spags took a better opportunity
“Sorry guys, they’re offering me a better position with more money on a championship caliber team” BOO STEVE IS AN ASSHOLE!!
The emperor is wearing no clothes!
I say we go out and just crush offenses in 2012.
If we finish statistically 8th and we’re pissed as hell…
what if we’re statistically 1st or 2nd?
Yes, we got burned early on defense. But last time I checked, the two teams in the SB were not defensive specialists. Anyone want to tell me that GB had a great defense, and it went 15-1. The rules of the NFL are NOT in the defensive players favor. Not in the least…
WAKE UP FOLKS!
We’re beating up on the wrong guy. You want to get to the playoffs? We MUST PROTECT THAT FOOTBALL!
Don’t tell me that the 8-8 was all defense… Eagles fans are noted for our sharp “no BS” style. Pinning this 8-8 on the defense is much akin to saying we don’t need to worry… just heave the ball and if they pick it off we’ll just reload and do it again…
If we don’t stop the picks and the dropsies, we could have the Steel Curtain and still lose half our games.
It’s time to put this myth to rest.
