this could have been addressed
as a comment in any number of the other offseason posts. Fanposts are for material that has a bit more substance. Just a future reference.

"A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing."
What the hell is a LMK?
I think this comment should be used more often.
That's like your opinion, man.
Ok
This was a stupid idea that wastes space for posts that actually have some merit. It took no original concept nor any time to prepare.
You made a list of players who are free agents and then added a nonsense question of whether or not they were pretenders or contenders. Contender’s for what? Re-signing? If so, how does pretender’s fit in there? They can’t pretend to re-sign.
So assuming they are all re-signed then does contenders or pretenders represent their ability to make the team? That makes a little more sense but since we don’t know who is going to get re-signed it is a moot point.
Basically your post has no clear direction other then using a cliche’d catch phrase to attempt to form a discussion that has been discussed to death in previous and more worthwhile posts.
Substantial enough for you?

Goodbye
Won’t miss you….
Vince Young
Ronnie Brown
Steve Smith
Trevor Laws
Stay with the right price:
Juqua Parker – He’s old but still serviceable for his small role (depth)
Akeem Jordan – as a backup, should not be starting (depth)
DeSean Jackson – You’re a #2 …. get over it.
Must keep the rest…
As much as I hate to say it?
we may not resign a single player…
that includes Pro Bowler Mathis (LG) as well as Schmitt as well as Dunlap…
we should.
But we didn’t last year.
And the late decision on the DC means we are behind the 8 ball again on making decisions about our personnel….

Yes
Let’s just assume random things now.

Young gone he is pretending to be a WC QB
Ronnie Brown is way better than he showed but he doesn’t fit our type of WC offense.
Give Dixon a shot.
Our OLine backups are not relevant.
Steve Smith deserves another year.
Mathis for sure. Best surprise of the year.
Laws cut him.
Parker worst play of the year jumping off sides. Best D play scoring that TD. Thanks for the hard work bro but it’s time we drafted your replacement.
Jordan keep. Great back up.
At least one more year of Andy and Juan. If they don't win it all they both better be gone!
No way Eagles draft a LB in the first round 2012.
We will see if Spags was in the right place at the right time in the Gmens SB run. Or was that the fluke year and he really is just mediocre.

Steve smith is worthless to the eagles
Even when he got healthy he was behind Jason Avant on the depth chart. He said he wanted to play more and the eagles just don’t need him.

Coming off an injury
he is expected to not to be the same right? I mean Graham, Maclin and Allen get a pass so why shouldn’t he?
Plus people love Avant and to me he is what he is, a good player. He’s never going to catch 80 balls.

that's actually
a fair point. If everything is done properly, it would take 3 to 6 months for proper healing and best results, but again the rehab available wasn’t near the quality because of the lockout. The thing is he got re-injured (same knee) so why take that chance again?

Ok.
Keep: (No doubt about it)
1. Evan Mathis- Best LG in the game, gut snubbed big time this year.
2. Antonio Dixon- Dude was a beast then got hurt this season. To young of a talent and to raw to give up on right now, he’ll be a cheap option at DT which I honestly think is better than any other option out there for a backup.
For the right price:
1. Desean Jackson- If he’s asking for an insane contract he can take his happy ass somewhere else.. But if he wants to be realistic then my all means stay. It’s a case of “how much is he truly worth” and likely he’ll get overpaid somewhere else or Franchised.
2. King Dunlap- The guy does ok when he has help, but to be honest he’s nothing special.
3. Laws- I honestly think Laws with an offseason in Washburns scheme could be very disruptive, let Jenkins take him under his wing.
Iffy about:
1. Jordan- Love the guy on ST’s, but he’s no standout.
2. Juqua Parker- He’s old, played decent but we have Tapp and Graham to back up Cole/Babin
3. Steve Smith- What if he just wasn’t healthy? Maybe we can get him to a low end deal and he impresses during the offseason workouts, worst case scenario we cut him in TC.
Cut:
1. Ronnie Brown- Did nothing. Absolutely garbage honestly.
2. VY- Did nothing, showed no improvement, brought the circus of “Dream Team” to town.
Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

Pretty much
Brown and Young are worthless.
Jordan, Parker and Smith are good-decent depth and provide some sort of production in different ways. Jordan being a special teams player (good one at that) and quality backup, Parker being a superb backup and Smith being a WR who’s had some big years then got hurt only to shit the bed last season but the fact he may not have been 100% and could potentially make an impact next season could help him… But all 3 are replaceable with little or no drop off.
Desean, Dunlap and Laws are guys who have played a lot for us. Desean’s a game changer, Dunlap’s a decent backup OT and Laws is a guy I can see thriving in this system if he could get healthy. These guys are replaceable however there will likely be a drop off.
Mathis is the best at his position and I simply love watching him play, he made a major impact for us this season… Dixon got hurt but the guy has so much potential I think Washburn could make a monster out of him.
