Was Jason Kelce A Pro Bowl Snub?

Months after being diagnosed with a brain AVM, Patterson prepares for procedure.

Under Review: Kelce deserved Pro Bowl nod
In the latest Under Review, Ray Didinger and Brian Baldinger break down center Jason Kelce, who should have made the Pro Bowl this season.

Kelce injured in Sunday’s finale | Philadelphia Inquirer | 01/02/2012
Eagles center Jason Kelce injured his right foot during Sunday's game against the Redskins and was on crutches and wearing a boot on Monday at the NovaCare Complex.

Did the Dion Lewis era begin Sunday?
Lost in the 34-10 romp over the Redskins was Dion Lewis' big day. Was it a step toward his being the primary backup to LeSean McCoy?

Iggles Blitz " Blog Archive " Offseason Update #1
My primary target is Boston College MLB Luke Kuechly. He hasn’t declared yet, but I think he will. Is he worth pick 15? We’ve gotta see how he does at the Combine. I think he could be worth that pick, especially to a team like us with such a hole in the middle. Will the Eagles really spend a 1st rounder on a LB? I think it is definitely possible

Jason Kelce is a rookie....

By far he’s done what was expected of him and more. When they made the pro-bowl voting list, alot of players didn’t get on the list, who should have been recognized and noticed. Mostly they put players with numbers to their names, on the list. By no means, tells voters the extents of the players achievements in actions. Alot of good players has been left out of the v-list, because of numbers and not on-field performaces.

Kelce

Kelce is not a Pro Bowler All Pro or anything like that he was graded as

25th best Center
27th in Pass Blocking
19th in Run Blocking
tied for 2nd in Screen Blocking
also he gave up the most QB sacks with 6 and the most QB pressures w 26
5th most penalties which 0 were declined or off setting

the real reason why Kelce is starting is because of his Football IQ and making the blocking calls def not on his play

by SKerwood on Jan 3, 2012 10:33 AM EST up reply actions

He's still looked pretty f'ing good for a 6th round rookie though

I agree that he’s not ready for the pro-bowl this season, but as Baldinger pointed out, he dominated Ratliff in that second Dallas game. I think Kelce’s gonna be pretty damn awesome in the next couple years.

by deg0ey on Jan 3, 2012 11:09 AM EST up reply actions

He got dominated he did not dominate, but I do like his IQ not many missed blocks this year and I don’t want another new or rookie C

by SKerwood on Jan 3, 2012 11:16 AM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

So you’re saying Baldinger is lying?
Or just that you know more about OL play than he does?

It’s got to be one or the other.

by waterfield on Jan 3, 2012 10:33 PM EST up reply actions

He’s doing alright for a rookie as a starter, otherwise AR would have pulled him out. And I believe he’s learned some things in 2011 that will benefit him in the coming year, knowing what he needs to do and be ready when time comes. He’ll do well this time around, who knows, maybe become pro-bowl caliber.

by EaglesHeat on Jan 3, 2012 11:42 AM EST via Android app up reply actions

The mental part of being a C is a big deal and from stuff I read he’s doing it perfect he’s going to get better in Pass/Run blocking at least I hope so but this year was no Pro Bowl year but I hope one day

by SKerwood on Jan 3, 2012 12:10 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

I do, too. We’ll see how he does in the coming year.

by EaglesHeat on Jan 3, 2012 12:15 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

For something completely different...

I thought Jason Avant was completely irrelevant this year. Maybe time to look at a younger alternative?

by lachlangc on Jan 3, 2012 7:03 AM EST reply actions

Except for the Buffalo game, he came through a lot.

If it’s in the card to go with a LB in the 1st round, then yes grab Kuechly. Can’t think of anything other than OL/LB as the 1st pick. Unless they’re going with SS/FS, pass up the chance with Kuechly, for a number of other picks.

by EaglesHeat on Jan 3, 2012 7:06 AM EST via Android app reply actions

Kuechly

a white tackling machine = bust

Ill take Fonzie Dennard at CB or Burfict or Zach Brown at LB

by SKerwood on Jan 3, 2012 10:34 AM EST up reply actions

lmao

Eagles need an intimidator/hard hitter/with some attitude thats been missing since Dawkins and Trotter.

all those you tube videos of Kuechly show him making good textbook tackles but not really laying wood. He will have a much difficult time in the NFL trying to tackle RBs like Rice and Turner et al.

Yeah we don’t guys that make good textbook tackles smh….

History tells us one thing guys like him don’t make it in the NFL Eagles learned the hard way!

by SKerwood on Jan 3, 2012 11:17 AM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

Let me know next time u see him get off a block and make a tackle!! Because as a Eagles he won’t have 2 DTs blocking for him

by SKerwood on Jan 3, 2012 11:19 AM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

Is he even better then Brown or Burfict anyways?

by SKerwood on Jan 3, 2012 11:21 AM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

If you saw Burfict play this year, that question would be laughable. Burfict wasn’t even the best LB on his own team this year.

About me

I don’t watch ASU I really watch Temple only and big games.

I use draftbreakdown and their affiliates YouTube video breakdowns to judge players and stuff I read.

It’s possible Burfict is over rated like last yr when everyone was on Prince and really Dennard was the shut down CB.

So yeah on ASU Burfict might not be the guy I saw him give up Oregon game but this will be the first I heard this guy sucks

Read around a little more, I wouldn’t take him in the 2nd. Let alone the first.

Yes, we really need a MLB and Kuechly can fit nicely into the defensive scheme. He intellectually follows the ball, has some good instincts, but needs to mature into the NFL level. Having him would benefit both the team and himself, because he’ll learn some great fundamentals from DRC and Joselio Hanson.

Still waiting for someone to mention...

That after the redskins beatdown on sunday, Djax became only the fifth player in NFL history to record over 900 receiving yards in each of his first four seasons.

He joins Randy Moss, Jerry Rice, Bob Hayes, and Joey Galloway

except you don’t get 900+ yrds by “trying hard” in one game

He only needed 25 yards to pass the 900 yard mark against WAS.

Yes please make Dion Lewis the primary backup

So they relieve him off of kickoff duty… that way he can no longer return kicks from the back of the endzone to the 12 yard line.

by MikeCampy on Jan 3, 2012 8:50 AM EST reply actions

In your opinion, who was the Eagles last true Kick-Off threat? (Do Not say Reno Mahe or Quintin Demps)

Astra Inclinant, Non Necessitant

by EagleGreeninMD on Jan 3, 2012 8:55 AM EST up reply actions

Mahe was never on kickoffs anyway. Demps wasn’t much of a threat, nor was J.R. Reed or Rod Hood before him. James Thrash was a decent return man for a little while, but he was never much of a threat to break for a TD. Brian Westbrook, maybe? He was better on punts, but he could take it back on a kickoff. And of course Brian Mitchell was as big a threat as we’ve seen here.

JR Reed before his injury was shaping up to be a fantastic KR

by JasonB on Jan 3, 2012 10:56 AM EST up reply actions

He looked good, but fantastic? I don’t know about that. We only had about a year to get an impression of him.

by Rujasu on Jan 3, 2012 11:25 AM EST up reply actions

Reed was on his way to an excellent career as a KR. He had good speed and was tough as fucking nails.

by waterfield on Jan 3, 2012 10:42 PM EST up reply actions

Eh, see my comment above. He looked good, but there wasn’t enough evidence to say he’d be great for years to come or anything. He could have been, though.

by Rujasu on Jan 4, 2012 9:15 AM EST up reply actions

Who was the last person to return a kickoff for a TD?

The last person I remember doing that was Ellis Hobbs but it was ruled back due to a penalty. Hobbs could have been a good return man if he could have stayed healthy.

El Donkerino (if you're not into the whole brevity thing).
I miss me some Brian Dawkins :(

Hmm since the GB game in 06 I’ve always thought of returns as something that is much more likely to hurt us than help us (turnover, injury, penalty etc). So I’m quite satisfied with touchbacks and fair catches. Desean revived my interest in punt returns, but I still think most kickoffs should be taken as touchbacks. 90% of big kickoff returns are called back by penalty anyway.

Demps wasnt as bad as you remember

We definetly should draft someone who’s real good though. mabye Rainey from Fla

Kelce Pro Bowl

Baldy is a retard Kelce was by far our worst OLineman and he did not dominate Ratliff. Kelce Gave up a QB Hit and 2 Pressures
Ratlif had a Batted Pass, 3 Pressure 1 Tackle and a assist

by SKerwood on Jan 3, 2012 10:28 AM EST reply actions

1 QB hit, 2 pressures. 58 snaps.

by waterfield on Jan 3, 2012 10:52 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know what your profession is, but let’s say it’s fries.
You got 58 orders. One of them comes out underdone and 2 of them they comes out overdone. I say you done a good job.

by waterfield on Jan 3, 2012 11:01 PM EST up reply actions

Forgot Baldy and Diddy here is PFF take on Ratliff vs Kelce

Trying to Set the Tone

Nose tackle Jay Ratliff (+5.6) seems to have two kinds of games: average and great. This was one of the amazing ones, and he did so with some great plays from the start. On the first play, he pushed center Jason Kelce to the backfield which resulted in the run changing direction to the outside and a 1-yard loss. The following play he pushed Kelce to the backfield again which resulted in pressure and an incomplete pass. Its players in games like this that sometimes traditional statistics just don’t do it for, because Ratliff had just one tackle and one assist, but throughout the game he continued to get pressure and disrupt the run.

Either Way Jason B its BS Baldy n Diddy are wrong

Yeah I think we all know that lol

Baldy and Diddy were breaking down tape from week 16 but anyway since u wanted to bring it up

Week 8 Matchup Kelce vs Ratliff

Ratliff – 3.6 grade (highest of all DAL Defenders)
1 QB Hit
5 Pressure
1 Assts
4.1 Grade in Pass Rush (Best on DAL for week 8)

Kelce graded as -3.8 worst graded C that week and worst Eagles O Player
1 QB Hit 4 Pressure

here a review from that week

Another rookie center but different results

Jason Kelce (-3.8) had another very poor game. I identified the matchup between him and Jay Ratliff (+3.6) in my "Three to Focus on" article and this was a case where the result was true to form. Kelce was continually moved backwards in pass protection to the tune of a hit and four pressures in his 39 pass blocks. To his credit, his athleticism meant he was rarely beaten cleanly off the line, at least giving Vick a chance to step up and avoid the rush, but that’s little consolation. Kelce was also called for holding Ratliff with 1:39 to play in the third. With this performance he now ranks dead last in PBE amongst centers with a rate of 95.7. He remains the weak link on an underrated line.
