I’d take Dont’a Hightower over Burfict. I feel like no safety this year is above a 2nd round grade. I can’t stand reaching for players, take the best player available. There is no way we go safety that high this year. Interesting trades though. Keeping the Belicheat/Andy trading tradition alive still I see. Haha

Well now I see Barron is slotted to go exactly where you picked him. I stand corrected.

I guess you hated last year’s draft as much as I did then? The Eagles did nothing but reach for players a round before they should’ve gone. Such a terrible strategy.

I'll give you a cookie if you know what my pic is from.

I'd rather have Burfict, at least we know he sucks and won't have expectations...

Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...

Wild_Eagle!

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

just becauce kuechly has

alot of college awards doesnt mean he wont get owned in the nfl. i think the REAL reason everyone dislikes this mock is because is because i dont think kuechly will end up in philadelphia.

remember last years mocks????? everybody and their brother had us picking jimmy smith, and if i recall correctly, anyone who predicted the eagles not picking him pretty much got shunned here. whatever. i hope the birds pass on kuechly and pick burfict just so i can watch all of you guys hating on burfict, slowly wrap your mouths around his dick.

by fr33thinker on Jan 29, 2012 1:34 PM EST up reply actions

I don't think you understand...

Burfict’s kind of a joke, he’s unmotivated… If he can get his head on straight he’d be fine.

However the main issue is with Hightower, the dude isn’t that good and I think it’d be a wasted pick…

Either way the best option is Kuechly

I can tell you put a lot of work into this

Props!

Djax and Brady??? Wow that would be dangerous. I like everything but Burfict in round 1.

At least one more year of Andy and Juan. If they don't win it all they both better be gone!

No way Eagles draft a LB in the first round 2012.

We will see if Spags was in the right place at the right time in the Gmens SB run. Or was that the fluke year and he really is just mediocre.

It would only be dangerous if Desean catches balls.

He played like a little girl this year.

Holy shit…

so you have Cleveland giving up a second AND next years first and third ?? That is considerably more than Atlanta gave up for Julio Jones and they were moving all the way from 27 to 6 as opposed to the Browns moving from 4 to 2. The Browns know St Louis + Minnesota arent going to pick Griffin so the only way bidding gets that high is if multiple teams (namely the redskins) start offering similar packages.

I can see that happening. Those top two picks are gonna be worth a lot. At first I thought his trade idea for us was a little wonky, but after breaking it down its pretty clear that this guy has done his homework. I was impressed.

first of all

QB and WR are worlds apart. the browns are trading alot to get the face of their franchise for the next decade plus. it comes down to simple supply and demand, thus, the price goes up.

by fr33thinker on Jan 27, 2012 12:06 PM EST up reply actions

the problem is that… at that price… I dont think the demand for the pick is going to be there.

Short of a last minute buyer appearing Cleveland and Washington are the only teams in the market, if St Louis puts that type of price on the pick I think Cleveland will quickly realize there are no teams (currently) on the board between 2-4 that are going to be looking QB and will stand pat at 4.

Think your Philly/New England trade might be just as bad… if not worse

Philly gives up

1st (15th)
4th
Desean

New England gives up
1st (27)
1st (32)

You have to think that even with having to resign him to a new contract desean is worth somewhere close to a 2nd round pick. IMO desean and the 32 cancel each other out (yes I am being overly generous by 10-15 picks or so here). Hell, throw in the 111 pick and that should That leaves us trading the 15th and 111th for the 27th.

Based on the draft value charts you are basically valuing desean as equal to a compensatory 3rd round pick.

Not at all, man…

I took issue with it at first, but when you do the math it becomes clear that it works.

DeSean cancels out the 32
So now we’re dealing with trading our 15th for the 27th (so only dropping 12 spots) and picking up a fourth rounder. Plus, getting a first for DeSean would be impressive on its own, IMO.

I think one of us is reading this wrong….

NE gets; #15, #111, WR-DeSean Jackson

WE are giving up the 4th round pick. So if you agree with me that Desean cancels out the 32 (or close enough to it) than we are giving up the 111th pick in order to move back 12 picks.

As good as desean for 32 is, I think 15+111 for 27 is just ridiculous. Depending on which value chart you read that drop from 15 to 27 is worth a mid 2nd round pick.

Desean won’t get us a 1st on his own. Remember we’ll likely have to franchise him, and he’s not going to look so appealing on a 1 year, 9+M deal, coming off a pretty bad season. I’d put his value closer to a mid-second round pick. So maybe 15+47+111 for 27+32. According to the draft value chart, that works out to 1552 versus 1270. So yeah, I think you’re right that we’re not getting fair value here. I think the Pats would have to add a 2nd in either this draft or the next one.

I'll give you a cookie if you know what my pic is from.

Remember we’ll likely have to franchise him, and he’s not going to look so appealing on a 1 year, 9+M deal

Granted he cant be graded at full value because he does need to be resigned but New England would not be locked into that 1 year deal if the FO uses the tag.

Assuming the eagles do lock down Desean with the franchise tag while they weigh their options… it will then be Deseans choice on whether or not to sign that 1yr/$9M deal, players normally do not sign that deal until the last possible moment. During that time period though Desean could talk to New England about a deal amicable to both sides and then New England could trade X, Y, and Z to us and sign Desean to any contract they want. (My one question on this process is if Desean needs permission to talk to other teams about contracts/lowered trade penalties… I do not think he does unless he is an “exclusive rights franchise player” but Im not sure exactly how that works, especially with the new CBA).

I think the Pats would have to add a 2nd in either this draft or the next one.

Anything short of this years second and I am out. Normally if you push a draft pick back a year you subtract a round from the pick… meaning next years second is equal to this years third which still isnt enough for what we are giving up.

by dt3 on Jan 27, 2012 1:09 PM EST up reply actions

the way i see it

A.) the eagles get two big pieces that potentially make this defense really scary. B.) the patriots still have to PAY desean. you have to take that into consideration. C.) the eagles actually get something for a player they dont want to pay a monster contract to.

let me ask you…would you do that trade? or would you keep the #15 with luke kuechly gone, and keep/franchise desean jackson (so he can play like a bitch for another season)?

what to do

Reid wants a linemen, Rosie wants a big trade, fans want a MLB, and some mocks want Michael Floyd. Cant wait to see what happens.

For the most part I think your right about these picks but there’s a few that I don’t agree with. There’s no way the Jags will take Dre Kirkpatrick. Gene Smith, their GM, puts high character above everything else. He’s not going to take someone that just got arrested. And there’s even less chance that New England trades up. Bill Belicheck doesn’t trade up PERIOD. He puts little value in draft position. If we did a tag and trade to DeSean for them we’ll get a 2nd roudner out of it, but that’s all. And if we draft Vontaze our defense will become worse and locker room will suffer. We don’t have the people to handle that guy.

about burfict

his coaches said he is actually a good person all around. they say he is so extremely competitive that once he steps onto the field he gets himself into penalty trouble, and that is what is hurting his image. i believe he is jerome harrison V2.0.

ALSO, if your going with the X coach doesnt ever do this….than you might as well take that #teamkuechly tag off of your sig because andy reid never drafts LBs in the 1st….ever.

by fr33thinker on Jan 27, 2012 2:39 PM EST up reply actions

I would really like to see where one of his coaches said that about him anytime in the past 2-3 months. Dennis Ericson has been warning teams about him and his lack of maturity has been well documented as is his lack of football knowledge.

ALSO, a coach never drafting a player for a position in the 1st round when it’s never been their biggest need or even one of their top needs in the past, doesn’t really mean it’s set in stone. Gene Smith’s refusal to sign low-character players are also extremely well known. Jaguar fans even blog complaining about it! I shouldn’t have said the Pats never trade up, but it’s not likely. Belichick has made 25 trades down and 15 trades up during his time in New England. Comparing a coach’s track record on one position in one round of the draft to a coach’s well known philosophy on running their entire team is ludicrous.

I don’t buy the college attitude problems unless it’s an extreme case. For most guys, they’ve been the alpha male on their side of the ball their entire career. A guy like Burfict has never had an elite older player to put him in his place. He’s also never had a coach capable of commanding the respect necessary to put hotshot college kids in their place (the main reason his coach was fired is because he couldn’t do this, with Burfict or anyone else). If you surround him with older, elite players like Cole, Asomugha, and Jenkins, I think there’s a good chance he settles down off the field. If we’re bringing in veteran LB in FA like Fletcher, Hawthorne, Lofton, the chances are even better. I think trading down for Burfict makes a lot of sense if we can fill our needs at MLB through FA.

I'll give you a cookie if you know what my pic is from.

Hightower > Burfict

Not a fan Mike Quick, I’d rater have Stephen Hill in the 2nd/3rd. Vinny Curry is another guy I like in the 2nd. I’d love to get Danny Trevathan in the 4th he’s a playmaker and I like him a lot more than Robinson. Overall, it’s a good draft I like a lot of the picks but there’s just a couple things I would switch.
