I Should be Eagles GM 2012
This Is My 1st post to the Bleeding Green Nation website, I have be monitoring comments, posts, and topics and decided to give my suggestions & opinions on the Philadelphia Eagles organization. I have been a loyal fan for years and I want nothing more than to see my Eagles in the Super Bowl. So without further ado I present my take if I was the GM of the Philadelphia Eagles.Free Agents:
Cuts, Trades & Resigns
Free Agents:
QB Vince Young=Released
WR Steve E. Smith=Released
LB Akeem Jordan=Released
WR Desean Jackson=If deal is not met Franchised
LT King Dunlap=Resigned
DT Trevor Laws=Released
DT Derek Landri=Resigned
FB Owen Schmitt=Resigned
LG Evan Mathis=Resigned
RB Ronnie Brown=Released
Trades:
RT Winston Justice=4th Round pick Cleveland
Center Jamaal Jackson=5th Round pick Carolina Panthers
CB Asante Samuel LB Moise Fokou=2nd Round Pick NY Jets
DE Juqua Parker & DT Mike Patterson will be traded to Buffalo Bills in exchange for a 4th Rd pick
Setting the Board
What do we have? With 11 players released or traded and possibly DeSean Jackson being Franchised that's 12 players we must replenish. And 4 players resigned Now lets set our board.
Quarter Back
Mike Vick /Mike Kafka/ who is our 3rd QB
Mike Kafka is our Veteran Backup so you have to see what you have in him this year because next year we have to draft a Quarterback for the future.
Running Back
Pro Bowl LeSean McCoy/Dion Lewis/ who is our 3rd RB
This player must be a Punt Returner or Kick Returner we need value.
Full Back
Owen Schmitt and Stanley Havili
These 2 guys will battle for that one spot Schmitt/good blocker & Havili/Pass Catching threat
Wide Receiver
Jeremy Maclin/ Jason Avant/ Riley Cooper/we need 3 WR's 2 in the draft and one in Free Agency
DeSean fate is controlled by the Eagles but the Eagles organization success and failures rest in DeSean play a unmotivated #10 will kill us this year and will surely lose his job and so goes the Eagles Super Bowl Dreams. Solution: Allow him to test the market and see what the other 31 teams are willing to give him in a deal. See if we can match that allow him to see his true value. If he finds that 9 mil a year fine lets sign and trade him but if he sees the reality of his worth and value to will get a even more motivated #10 for years to come. Just like when he came out and teams passed him up in the 1st round and he came in motivated with a chip on his shoulder and took the NFL by storm.
Tight End
Pro Bowl Brent Celek/ Clay Harbor
But we need someone to challenge Clay Harbor for that #2
Left Tackle
Pro Bowl Jason Peters/King Dunlap
Challenge King Dunlap
Right Tackle
Tod Herremans/ who is the backup????
Left Guard
Evan Mathis/who is the backup needs to be able to play center as well????
Right Guard
Danny Watkins/ Julian Vandervelde
Center
Offensive Needs:
- Need a backup QB in the draft
- Need a backup RB in the draft to play either Kick/Punt Returner
- Need 3 wide receivers 1 to take Desean spot 1 to add for depth and groom for the future and the final spot to challenge Mardy Gilliyard for the final spot as a Kick/Punt Returner
- A tight end to challenge Clay Harbor
- We need 2 Tackles both for depth and to challenge King Dunlap
- We need a Guard/Center stud to backup Evan Mathis and Jason Kelce
Left Defensive End
Jason Babin/Phillip Hunt/Darryl Tapp
Right Defensive End
Trent Cole/Brandon Graham/who is our 6th DE
Defensive Tackle
Cullin Jenkins/Derek Landri/
Antonio Dixon/ who is our 4th DT
Sam Linebacker
Jamar Chaney/who is our starter?????
Jamar we will challenge you for this job
Will Linebacker
Brian Rolle/Keenan Clayton(sub packages)
Middle Linebacker
Casey Matthews(sub packages)/who is our starter??????
Corner Back
Nnamdi Asomugha/BrandonHughes
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie/Curtis Marsh
Trevard Lindley/who is the 6th corner
Lindley or a draft pick must beat out Hanson for the slot job
Free Safety
Nate Allen/Colt Anderson(Special Team ACe)
Safeties in our system are rotational let all three battle for starting jobs.
Strong Safety
Kurt Coleman/Jaiquawn Jarrett,
May the best man win
Punter
Chas Henry needs competition
Kicker
Alex Henry
Long Snapper
Defensive Needs
- One backup Defensive End
- One backup Defensive Tackle
- Middle Linebacker
- Somebody to compete with Jamar Chaney for the starting job at the SAM position
- Nickel Corner competition
- Someone to challenge Chas Henry at the Punter postion
That's 9 needs on offense and 6 needs on defense that have to be addressed in the draft/free agency.
How do you address 15 needs on offense & defense with just 10 picks????
If you see above the personnel that was traded that gives us 5 additional picks 6 if #10 is dealt
Total Count 15 picks. not including DeSean Jackson
Value in Free Agency:
If #10 is traded then we go hard after Dwayne Bowe or Marcus Coulston to pair up with Maclin
Stephen Tullock from the Titans to man the middle of our line backing core he knows all about Washburn and the Wide 9 and gap responsibilites.
2 starters very valuable options in 2 key roles . If these guys are not available plan b is to draft talent.(don't be cheap lock these players up.) And now all we have to do is go after the best players available at every position of need. According to our draft boards.
Here is our draft picks before trades
1st Eagles
2nd Eagles
2nd Cardinals trade for Kevin Kolb
3rd Eagles
4th Eagles
4th Buccaneers The Eagles traded back from 104 to 116 with Tampa in the 2011 draft and picked up their 2012 4th round pick
5th Eagles
6th Eagles
6th Broncos The Eagles traded LB Joe Mays for RB J.J. Arrington, on the condition that if Arrington did not make the Eagles' 2011 53 man roster, the Eagles would instead receive the Broncos' 2012 6th round pick.
6th Patriots The Patriots acquired LB Tracy White and the Eagles' 2012 seventh-round draft choice in exchange for the Pats' 2012 sixth-round draft choice.
Here is our draft picks with trades included all additions are in bold
1st Eagles
1st If the Eagles sign & trade Desean Jackson To Jasonville Jaguars.
2nd Cardinals trade for Kevin Kolb
2nd Eagles
2nd CB Asante Samuel and LB Moise Fokou to N.Y. Jets
3rd Eagles
4th Eagles
4th Buccaneers The Eagles traded back from 104 to 116 with Tampa in the 2011 draft and picked up their 2012 4th round pick
4th RT Winston Justice trade to Cleveland
4th DT Mike Patterson & DE Juqua Parker trade to Buffalo Bills
5th C Jamaal Jackson Carolina Panthers
5th Eagles
Without further delay:
The 2012 Philadelphia Eagles Draft
1st pick Dont'a Hightower MLB Alabama
2nd pick Mohamed Sanu/ WR /Alshon Jeffery
2nd pick Mike Adams OT Ohio State
2nd pick >Brandon Thompson, DT, Clemson
3rd pick Brandon Boykin, CB Georgia
4th pick Kirk Cousins, QB Michigan State
4th pick Shea McClellin, DE, Boise State
4th pick David Molk, C/G , Michigan
4th pick Chris Rainey RB Florida(reach but well worth it)
5th pick Joe Adams WR Arkansas
5th pick Markus Zusevics OT Iowa
6th pick Nick Provo, TE, Syracuse
6th pick Drew Butler P Georgia
6th pick Josh Oglesby, OT, Wisconsin
If DeSean Jackson is traded look for us to receive at least a 2nd rounder this year and a 2nd next year to compensate for his departure. Or a 1st & 3rd round pick this year.
Cleveland Browns have 2 1st round picks they need a proven go to wide receiver so we give them DeSean Jackson and we take there 22nd overall pick and leave to select Robert Griffin III with there 2nd overall pick.
We would then select Kendall Wright WR Baylor with the 15th overall pick and with the 22nd overall pick select Dont'a Hightower MLB
Could you imagine as a defense facing Maclin/Wright/Coulston/Sanu/Avant
That concludes my GM report
Fly Eagles Fly!!!!

All-in-all pretty good. One quick note, though — Ricky Sapp is no longer on the team.

Hell, if he can trade a player that’s not on the Eagles for a draft pick then more power to him.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

I like it
Chris Rainey would be an awesome kick and punt returner/scat back.
Chas Henry definitely needs to be challenged, he wasn’t good.
Hopefully Chaney works out at SAM. And I hope Jaiquawn Jarrett can win the starting job at SS?
I’d also rather have Michael Floyd in the first if DeSean goes and then Vontaze Burfict in the second.
Would not franchise Jackson

Agreed
Either let him walk or give him a fair deal and see if he accepts it.

I doubt Jeffery slides to the 2nd, but I like the draft.
The key problem with this projected offseason is that if Reid truly has one more year left (as is most likely the case) I doubt he’s going to have so many rookies fill key roles. The Eagles don’t need to be so active in free agency, but it’s not like they shouldn’t do anything. Thus, they won’t just sign two players (even if they happen to be quality like Tulloch and Bowe.)
I reject your reality and substitute my own.
I've said it before
I think Andy’s potential demise is overestimated. I think his job is much more stable than people think.
I don’t see the Eagles using 3 picks in the 2nd round. They’d definitely trade at least one, if not two to move up in the first round this year.
I’m not sure I’d classify Mike Kafka as a veteran backup. To me a veteran backup is a guy like David Garrard, Jason Campbell, or Trent Edwards. Kafka hasn’t seen enough game action to really fit that veteran backup mold.

If the Eagles can’t get at least a 2nd for Samuel then I would strongly prefer not trading him.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

That’s obviously way too much money for the CB position…

Flashback
Remember last year when team were fighting over Asante and NNamdi, How about the jets they were looking to spend 11 mil on NNamdi services, Saints desperately need help. That secondary is horrible Detroit tried to traid for Asante last year but we wanted a 1st.
by SuperBowl Bound Eagles on Jan 26, 2012 10:03 AM EST up reply actions
Flash forward
Jets signed Cromartie to an extension. They are no longer in the market for a CB. Their issue is not at CB it is at S.
Detroit is a possibility but we have to come down to their asking value. A 2nd
At least one more year of Andy and Juan. If they don't win it all they both better be gone!
No way Eagles draft a LB in the first round 2012.
We will see if Spags was in the right place at the right time in the Gmens SB run. Or was that the fluke year and he really is just mediocre.

With his age and his salary I think a 2nd (probably mid) is the ceiling for an Asante trade.
I can’t see anyone giving us more than that, even if he is one of the league’s best.
Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!
look at Asante numbers he is not on a decline sure he can’t tackle but look at his numbers nobody ever targets him He was the 2nd best corner in the league last year compare his stats to Nnamdi and Revis He has atleast 3 years left in him.

I don't disagree.
But the NFL is a stubborn league and GM’s don’t like paying lots of money to players in the 30+ age category. With a player as good as Asante they are willing to pay a big salary, but they won’t give up a lot in a trade. No one is arguing that Asante is a great CB with fuel left in the tank. But there are mitigating factors (age and salary) that make his value less than what his talents would justify.
Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!

As a Giants fan looking at this fanpost...
the Eagles have a few more holes than I realized, granted it’s not clear if all of those players who OP thinks should be released will be released but there are definitely areas that could use some major overhauls.
JPP + Cruz + Nicks + Eli
Yea, I'm excited about the next 10 years.
Most of the people that are going to be released don’t fit what we are trying to do, And are merely role players who have unjust contracts

I am with you
S should be upgraded, however, it wouldn’t be my highest priority.
I would go: LB, LB, S, CB, WR (regardless of if 1Yard sticks around), OL, DL, RB, QB
I couldn't read the whole post,
but, for incoherent rambling nonsense, you did an average job. Keep up the good work.
This year is a "buyer's market" again...
and the last time we heard those words, the eagles signed zero free agents back from their team. I expected Bradley and Mikkell… got neither.
This year? I expect Schmitt and Mathis and Landri and Dunlap and hope we bring back DJax… who we retain? I’m afraid to find out..
We know we are talking to DL, we know we love us some DL…
so if we do NOT resign any of our guys, what does that mean to our team?
First… Our priorities shift dramatically. We will NEED a WR. We will NEED DT’s. Our LB corps, as stinko as it is, is intact next year. We will need a backup QB (jason campbell looks Awfully attractive as a backup to me)
So while I like the diversity of your draft, it doesn’t strike me as logical if the eagles do not resign their players…
And they haven’t shown me anything that they will…

really tired right now
but saw the part where you have jamaal jackson being traded. i hope the eagles just let the man walk and go where he wants. not fair to him
claude giroux and shady mccoy. the future
You certainly couldn't do any worse.
God Damn you, Andy Reid.
The fat queen has failed us again. Reid must go.
This has "o" written all over it
Just from the headline: I Should be Eagles GM 2012
I’m gonna read it though, my expectations are so low I bet I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring it Home for Jerome.
This was actually a pretty good post
I think some of your trades are wishful thinking, and I don’t know if I want to add 15 players on draft day and hope they all make the team. But you ID’d most of the need areas.
Quibbles:
I think Harbor needs more PT, not competition.
Keep Mike Patterson. DL is set, draft a player if you want one not b/c of need.
Don’t think we necessarily need a 6th corner or 6th DE, although those are good to positions to have a surplus at.
In FA, we should be preparing to add a major WR and trying to get DeSean back. I want Bowe … if he gets his money though, not sure how we can convince DeSean he’s getting paid correctly do unless we’re doing both deals at the same time and/or they are similar, similarly backloaded or have out clauses.
We should pursue LBs and Ss in FA.
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring it Home for Jerome.
