For those of you wanting Andy Reid's head on a platter

Only two of the 11 NFL head coaches hired in 2009 remain: Jim Schwartz and Rex Ryan. Other nine -- nine! -- each now fired.

And each of those teams fans were screaming for a head coaching change too. The problem with coaching changes... once you start, where and when do you stop? how long do you give the new guy?

We only gave Juan Castillo 3/4ths of a season (that had NO offseason to prepare) before wanting his head on a platter...

It's a drug... once you start you can't stop.. and you can never go back ...

His lackadaisical approach also seems to be a “drug” this team is addicted too. And can we stop with the “no offseason” bullshit. You want to know who else had no offseason? 31 other NFL teams.

In 5 years, I want De'Anthony Thomas on this football team.

by IwantVick on Jan 20, 2012 6:42 PM EST reply actions

How are fans in any kind of position to know if any professional coach is “lackadaisical?” I think Andy has earned the benefit of the doubt.

by TommykUD on Jan 20, 2012 6:51 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

You clearly didn’t get it…He said the same drug metaphor thing you’re claiming about people who want Reid fired can be applied to the people saying they want to keep Reid.

31 other teams had no offseason

and yet of those teams.. who had success?

The teams with MINIMAL CHANGES. San Fran had a new head coach but did a dummy down version of the playbook to get the season started.

New Orleans, Green Bay, Atlanta, Giants, san fran, and detroit got to the playoffs. of those teams.. who had significant coaching changes? One- San Fran. how extensive where the scheme changes? no significant changes on offense nor on defense.

AFC? Baltimore, Pittsburgh, New England, Houston, Cincinnati, and Denver. Of those teams, only Houston had a defensive scheme change…

So stop selling this “31 other team” stuff. If you are seeking to compare us to successful teams in 2011, limit your “31 other team” to those teams.

We had significantly more changes in our coaching staff than any of those teams.

by milroyigglesfan on Jan 20, 2012 8:26 PM EST up reply actions   2 recs

So the excuse you should use ad nauseam would be something like : " we made too many coaching changes to be able to have success".

by waterfield on Jan 21, 2012 12:19 PM EST up reply actions

You’re not making any point whatsoever. I get that this team made changes, but does that absolve them of guilt? This organization knew it had a limited amount of time to get ready for the season, but they made all these changes anyways, so I don’t know how in fuck’s sake you can say that these changes make this teams incompetence forgivable.

In 5 years, I want De'Anthony Thomas on this football team.

by IwantVick on Jan 21, 2012 5:05 PM EST up reply actions

it doesn’t absolve him of his sins but it does mean with a full offseason to acclimate all the talent he brought in we should be contenders next year…the question is would you rather punish Andy for all the frustration you felt this year or mabye win a Super Bowl next year? cause firing Andy will really hurt our chances of doing that

by dstern77 on Jan 24, 2012 11:40 AM EST up reply actions

31 NFL teams,

most of which did not replace more than half their starting defense, their DC, a chunk of their offensive line, and both kicking positions.

Nope.

by bigmeanie08 on Jan 21, 2012 1:43 PM EST up reply actions

Who’s fault is it that the team made all those changes? That logic doesn’t make any sense.

REID WILL NEVER WIN THE SUPER BOWL. ALL YOU ANDY LOVERS ARE JUST HAPPY WITH MEDIOCRITY. AFRAID OF CHANGE. JUST A BUNCH OF SISSY’S. HERE IS A QUESTION FOR ALL U ANDY REID BUT KISSERS. IF EAGLES GO SAY BETTER THAN 10-6 NEXT YEAR AND LOSE IN THE PLAYOFFS. DO YOU WANT ANDY BACK AGAIN. HONESTLY THE EAGLES ARE JUST A LEAN MEAN MONEY MAKING MACHINE THAT WILL NEVER PUT ITS BEST FOOT FORWARD TO WIN A SUPER BOWL. EVEN IF THEY DID THEY DONT HAVE ENOUGH GOOD FOOTBALL PEOPLE IN PLACE TO WIN IT. ALL FINANCIAL WIZZES. GOOD WITH BUDGETS AND BARGAIN BUMBS. ANDY SHOULD GO BACK TO COACH HIS ROOTS BYU. HE CAN THROW THE BALL ALL DAY THEIR AND NEVER HAVE TO RUN IT ONCE. JUST WHAT HE WANTS. HE IS AN IDIOT AND HAS COMPLETELY BENEFITED FROM A WEEK DIVISION. THE NFC LEAST.

I'll fix this for you, so people can understand your awful argument

Reid will never win the Super Bowl. All of you Andy lovers are just happy with mediocrity, afraid of change. You’re just a bunch of sissies. Here is a question for all of you Andy Reid butt kissers: if the Eagles go better than 10-6 next year and lose in the playoffs, do you want Andy back again? Honestly, the Eagles are just a lean, mean, money-making machine that will never put its best foot forward to win a Super Bowl. Even if they did, they don’t have enough good football people in place to win it, just financial wizards who are good with budgets and bargains. Andy should go back to coach his alma matter at BYU. He can throw the ball all day there, and never run it once. Just what he wants. He is an idiot and has completely benefited from a weak division, the NFC “Least”.

- I get that you’re an idiot. But at least take some pride in your spelling, grammar, and punctuation. A couple mistakes, well, that happens on message boards. This atrocity of a post should never happen anywhere.

-WTF do you call signing Terrell Owens? A slick manuever designed to save a couple bucks or a highly risky move designed to give us the one thing we needed to get over the hump and win a super bowl.
-Jevon Kearse
-Mike Vick: Do any of you give Reid credit for that? Or were you outside with the animal rights groups and then all of a sudden flip-flopped when he started playing well
-Nnamdi Asogmuha (probably spelled wrong i know)
I know these moves haven’t all worked out but Andy and the front office and stuck their necks (and wallets) out there when they see the opportunity to try to get us a SB

-LeSean McCoy was 7th in the NFL in carries, wtf are you talking about we never run. The games he didn’t get carries was when they started stacking the line to stop him.

-Your an ungreatful (sic) idiot who has week (sic) spelling skills and is somehow blind to the facts…Seriously just start rooting for the Jets. Its so obvious to me you’d rather have a brash, outspoken, average coach who plays smashmouth football than a good coach who’s more concerned with his team and could give a fuck about what the media thinks of him

by alcatraz0109 on Jan 24, 2012 12:53 PM EST up reply actions

The big problem was...

The complete and utter lack of foresight by Reid and the rest of the FO in the Castillo hire.

After the 2010-11 season, it was obviously priority one to overhaul the defense, starting with McDermott’s firing and letting veterans who knew the defense like Bunk, Stew, and Q (that sounds like a bad morning drive radio show) walk. new starting DE, new starting DT, new MLB, new starting SS, new starting CB, new nickel. With the exception of Bradley —> Matthews and Mikell —> Page/Jarrett/Whoever, these were all talent upgrades, with Jenkins and Babin having standout years in particular. Throw in Washburn and his Wide 9, which is probably too maligned, but was a marked shift in defensive philosophy, for better or worse.

Now, add in the fact that everyone and their mother knew we were headed for a work stoppage, and the fact the FO Andy hired a guy with no Coordinator experience, or any defensive coaching experience to speak of, and he deserves more heat than Juan, who I’m surprised did such a good job of righting the ship by year’s end. It can be argued that firing McDermott in the first place, given the game plan, was potentially the big mistake, even if it was one more year with his head squarely on the chopping block for stability’s sake.

Bottom line, the defense’s inability to hold onto the lead and the offense’s inability to hold onto the ball was the difference between 8-8 and 11-5 or better. (see: NYG game 1, San Fran, Atlanta) The turnovers were the big thing too — you could have any DC — Buddy Ryan, Jim Johnson, Dick LeBeau, Belichick, you name them, and they’d have their share of hiccups if the offense has chronic turnover issues, look no further than this year’s NFC Championship game for proof of that.
