Are The Chances High That Marty Mornhinweg Leaves?
In the past week we've heard Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg's name tossed around as a possible head coach candidate for both the Raiders and the Colts job. This has led several fans here to assume that he's more or less gone. But, the reality of the situation right now doesn't seem to the support that.
For one, as Les Bowen reported yesterday, the Colts haven't asked the Eagles for permission to interview Marty and there doesn't seem to be any indication that they will right now. Speculation, rather than sources seem to have fueled that rumor. Pundits connected the dots from Ryan Grigson, a former Eagles front office guy, to Marty and before you knew it he practically had the job.
In Oakland, we know that he did in fact interview, but the Raiders have sought permission to interview as many as six candidates for that job... for now. So there's no reason at this point to believe Marty is a finalist or even among the favorites for that gig.
Now it is important to note that this is all fluid. The Colts could ask to speak Marty today. The Raiders could hire him tomorrow... But right now, there does not appear to be a strong indication that Marty is likely on his way out of here.

Just wishful thinking
everyone around here, myself included, wants some sort of a breath of fresh air with this team. It’s getting hard to imagine much improvement for next year with everything staying status quo.
I'm not drunk I'm just drinking.
Well you weren’t going to get it at offensive coordinator either way, so what difference does it make?
The offense will still be run the way Andy likes. If you really want a “breath of fresh air” then you’re going to have to want Andy gone.

They were 8-8 and Vick missed a couple of games. People are overreacting on here about how down they are on this team now as the ridiculous hype last offseason. Eagles’ fans need something to find a more even keel.

What Jason said.
Also, if Marty leaves, it’s going to be tough to continue developing Vick. Our best passing years have been with Marty as O Coord. RZ numbers, well.. that’s a different story.

Really? Because Marty's Offenses have been consistently breaking Franchise records year after year...

Just goes to show
How little you can trust sports press on anything that’s not outright confirmed. Yesterday it was essentially that Marty was #1 in line for the Colts job… and today it’s he hasn’t even been asked to interview? Best just not to read these stories and wait for official press releases.
Hopefully Marty stays put, Vick needs an entire offseason as the starting QB.
March 5th is the deadline to sign franchise players so we will know DJAX’S situation. Resigning Mathis seems like a no brainer but only time will tell. The o-line did a nice job of protecting Vick this season. And they opened up lots of running lanes for Shady. It’s a very athletic starting 5 I hope the starting 5 stay intact.
Vick needs to cut down on the tipped passes so many this season, he has to make better decisons the turnovers killed us this year.

You would think that one of the reasons why Marty would want to leave is because of one of the reasons Spags didn’t want to come: no stability. It’s highly possible that with another bad season Reid is gone.

After the 08 season you wouldn’t think that stability would be a problem here, but things have gone downhill since then. 09 barely make the playoffs, get destroyed by the Cowboys in the first round. 10 barely make the playoffs, get beat by the Packers in the first round. 11 miss the playoffs while being the bottom bitch of the media and embarrassing ourselves for pretty much the first 12 games of the season. Smh. If the downward trend continues it could be a whole new era around here next year.

You can make the argument that this team was pushed to the brink by the 2005 season, and it’s been one of those injuries where, y’know, it kinda heals, but we’re not as strong as we used to be. We’ve been stuck somewhere between 3rd and 4th gear (not quite the top) since then, and right now, these past coupla year, the wheels are starting to wobble.

Really good point. Ever since all of that it seems like every situation is a powder keg waiting to go off. Add in the loss of Jim Johnson and the crippling of our past identity (elite defense), the lack of playoff success, and the questionable at best assistant coach and GM hires and it’s just a frustrating thing to see. With the majority of starters entering the twilight of their career maybe Reid moving on after next season, along with Howie and Juan, and us having a fresh start will be for the best. Jim Irsay is making major changes to his team as they transition to a new era to keep them competitive and I think that’s the right move.

I think the biggest factor was JJ’s passing :(
Also, this made me kinda sad:
With the majority of starters entering the twilight of their career
Trent Cole, Jason Peters, Todd Herremans, Babin, Avant, Vick, Hanson, Laws, Patterson, Nnamdi, Asante, Cullen Jenkins, Mathis…we really have a lot of older guys

We also have Maclin, Kelce, McCoy, Celek, Jackson, DRC, Allen, Rolle, Landri, Watkins. I think we have a good mix of players as far as age goes.
We’ll have to re-sign DRC first. Who knows if we’ll have the money for that after locking up Maclin/McCoy. Our defense will suffer a lot more than our offense, depending on how soon Vick loses his speed.

FWIW
His son is a highly touted QB prospect in Philly and is a verbal commit to Penn State, who just hired a HC and QB coach who have worked with Tom Brady. He may be reluctant to move across the country and possibly have his son pick a different school, or be far away from him during his college career/development.

.....his ass
that set up was too easy. But seriously though he is right. If you follow HS sports in the area and PSU you know about his son. Especially since PSU always has horrible QB’s and his son may actually be a decent one.
Haha yeah
I follow PSU and check their SBN blog as much as this one.

This is somewhat true...
However, Skylar (his son) has been wavering on his commitment for some time now and after visiting last weekend has not yet reaffirmed. Speculation on the PSU side of things is that he is in fact waiting to see what happens with his father before he commits. He interest from other high profile schools so his options are not limited.

If Marty Leaves...
…does that mean that Jim Washburn becomes the new O.C.? Then he can claim he was always all about offense even though he hasn’t been on an offense since high school.
Sound familiar?

Question
Doesn’t MM just relay the call to huddle that AR makes? If that’s the case, why not hire one of Juan’s sons for OC and start to groom him for our next DC?
by Live from Quahog on Jan 20, 2012 2:49 PM EST reply actions
No, MM is 100% control of play calling. AR makes the gameplan during the week together with MM, but else he only comes with suggesting during game day.
by Anders Jensen on Jan 20, 2012 3:53 PM EST up reply actions
In that case
MM should stay. This time next year, I don’t want to hear “new offensive scheme” as an excuse for not sacking AR.

Normally I’d say people should chill out, but I actually like it this year. We were a little too confident last year.

For once
I agree with you. People are acting like next year is a lost cause and it will be a clear rebuilding year. Have to see what they do but they will still play in a pretty mediocre division with two meddling owners who basically have crippled their respective franchises (Boys, Skins). Good chance to rebound to win 10 games & take the division if Vick stays healthy & they actually get some immediate impact from the drat this year.
Can't believe another team
Would consider investing in Marty given how grossly incompetent he was as the Lions’ head coach. Maybe they think he really learned from the experience but I would rather gamble on another alternative.
He’s a good sidekick. And he did learn his lesson that a team can run the ball and be successful. I just wonder if he is partly responsible for the clock management issues over the years or if it is all Andy.

Why Worry?
If Marty leaves, Andy said he is going to promote our special teams supervising assistant be the offense coordinator.
