What's up With Riley Cooper?
Been wondering what's up with Riley Cooper. Really liked this guy ever since the Birds drafted him, but haven't seen enough to determine if he's as good as I think he is (or can be). His career stats are fine...
23 rec
18.7 yd/avg
8 rec +20
2 rec +40
18 1st downs
2 TDs
...but it's hard to make a real judgment based on just 23 receptions over 2 seasons. Would really like to see the Eagles give this guy some extended playing time. Wondering what the rest of you think…

I’ve seen Cooper make some great plays (A few diving catches this year, the ball that should have been a pick last year that he snagged away from the defender), but I’ve also seen him botch one or two, (the deflection of his hands that turned into an easy int) however, I really like Cooper and have been impressed with what he can do when he actually sees time. I would like to see him worked in a bit more. He showed some flashes when VY was under center and Maclin was hurt.
That was the knock on him coming out of Florida
He’d make a lot of hard catches look easy, and a lot of easy ones look impossible
I think he has potential. Just wont get much of a chance here. I kinda think he’ll wind up like Gibson and Amendola. Just hidden in our depth chart and maybe eventually traded away where he’ll become a pretty solid producer.

He’s under contract until 2014 at good value, so my guess is, unless the Eagles get lucky with a late round flyer or an UFA, he’ll continue to stay buried at the bottom of the depth chart (providing solid depth to the WR corps). When his contract is up he’ll probably want more money and an opportunity to get more playing time,so the Eagles will let him walk at that point.
And I’m totally OK with that.

Hey, that's their fault...
He shouldn’t be on the hands team if these were his teammates.

What's up with him?
He’s a good backup if someone goes down and he s an excellent special teams player.
In other words, he’s a typical fifth round WR.

He’s a 4th or 5th guy at best but since he’s 6’4’’ Philly fans have fell in love with him since draft day and are still waiting for him to become the next T.O.

lol yes. Fans assumed from the day we drafted him that we should be able to throw fade routes into the endzone at will and improve our red zone efficiency to 100%.
"4th or 5th guy at best" - that's not true.
He could be a #2 or #3 NFL receiver on most teams… just not on the eagles’ current roster

I agree with this.. Send him to Denver lol

Bills, Dolphins, Jets, Bengals, Cleveland, Texans, Indy, Jaguars, Titans, Bronco's, Raiders, Redskins, Bears,
Lions, Vikings, Panthers, Tampa, Cardinals, Rams, 49ers and Seahawks are all possible places where he’d be at least their 3rd best WR.
Bills, Bengals, Jets, Cleveland, Jaguars, Broncos, Raiders, Redskins, Bears, Vikings, Panthers, Tampa, Rams, 49ers and Seahawks are the ones I’d guarantee he’s at least the 3rd guy on the depth chart.. So that’s 15 100%’s really.
Now as far as the Dolphins, Texans, Indy, Titans, Lions and Cardinals there’d be a little bit of competition but I think Cooper can unseat guys like Bess(miami), Mason (texans), Gonzolez/Collie(Indy), Avery (Titans), Burlesson(Lions) and Doucet (Cardinals)… Now of the 6 “maybe’s” I’ve listed here I’d bet 1-2 of them would get unseated.
So CPaulin, at least half of the teams could benefit from Coopers services.

wonder fi we could trade him to denver
since he played with tebow in florida? not even for much just a 5th rounder or something in return lol. than again might as well keep him around for that much.

I mean I could see us trading him, but I doubt we'd get a 5th.

All those teams...
…don’t have the WR depth, that is obvious. However, most of them have #3 receivers that are productive. You can’t just say that he would unseat those guys seeing as, even in only limited time, he still hasn’t impressed.
I’m also going to not pick on the fact that you listed Bess, Mason, Gonzalez/Collie, Burlesson, and Doucet on that list. Scratch that, I will…
Bess-260 career receptions, 51 last year.
Mason-943 career receptions, 19 last year.
Gonzalez-99 career receptions, been hurt but has still proven it ON the field.
Collie-172 career receptions, 54 last year
Avery-103 career receptions, 45 last year
Burleson-391 career receptions, 73 last year
Doucet-111 career receptions, 54 last year
All of these guys have proven it on the field. And don’t talk to me about depth, because Gonzalez and Collie have been buried behind depth and still put up 50+ receptions. There is a reason Steve Smith was brought in this year. Yes, he was value, but we wouldn’t NEED the value if Riley Cooper caught the ball consistently.
Bottom line: Let’s see him not drop an easy catch in 10 targets before we start talking about him being better than proven receivers, please.
Why do people always think I'm playing the Race Card???
Is it because I'm black???
There are supposed #1 receivers like DeSean Jackson, Roddy White, and Brandon Marshall
who had higher drop rates than Riley Cooper…
Based on what?
Certainly not on stats…
And if not on stats, then on what? Certainly not on the performance he has had when he HAS made it on the field.
You can’t keep a player with the potential to be a number 2 receiver on the bench…in ANY offense. Teams would be beating down our door if we had a number 2 receiver stashed at the Number 5 slot…especially a big one.

I was really hoping this would be his season
Last season I noticed Vick went to Cooper quite a bit and I thought they were gonna have some chemestry. Then Cooper had that nice catch against the Ravens in the pre season. But after that we really didnt use him. He did have some good games when Maclin was out, but I guess theres just to many mouths to feed on that offense.
Whos your Daddy?
that catch wasn't nice at all
The corner blew the coverage and Ed Reed was about 10 minutes late to make the play. Blown coverages are not nice plays, they are blessings for NFL WRs
JoeD AKA The Voice Of Reason
I need to know why he jumps for every catch and catches with his body constantly
If it’s a slant, he jumps and catches with his body. Post, jumps, catches it with his body. Shit, I bet he’d jump and catch with his body on a bubble screen. Whats so hard about extending your hands for the ball?
Exactly...
Great receivers have soft hands. This guy catches everything with his body. What is the use of having a big wide receiver that doesn’t know how to jump and extend his arms to catch the pass at the highest point possible?

He certainly has the best hair on the team and that’s what really matters.

Umm, Riley Cooper kind of isn’t good at all. If he wasn’t on the roster next year, I wouldn’t care. He’s a big receiver who has bad hands, runs bad routes and struggles after the catch. The best thing he does is get deep but he doesn’t even do that all that well simply because he isn’t very fast. He caught 48% of his targets this year, he is a highly unreliable target. He dropped 4 passes and 3 of his targets led to incompletions. And he struggles to attack the ball in the air too, he plays like he is 5’10". And he wasn’t a good special teamer, he was really only part of the kick return unit that was one of the worst in the NFL. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him beat out for a spot by Mardy Gilyard or Ronald Johnson.

A common theme?
Do u think any of that might have to do with the WR coach? It seems like a lot (read all except for avant) of our receivers aren’t quite developing as expected. I think the FO should be looking for the root of the problem…

Agree for defense
can’t say the same for offensive players. fat andy’s picked up great weapons that mesh really well with what he’s always trying to do w the vertical game. as far as development, I don’t think its been an issue for qb or rb.
no reason getting into the piss poor drafting of players on D

The best thing that Riley Cooper has going for him...
…is that he isn’t as bad as Chad Hall. The bottom receiver on this team won’t be on the active roster next year…that makes Hall the odd man out and Cooper safe, for now.
Cooper is a big receiver that plays fast. He has excellent hands when the ball is not thrown to him…but turns into James Thrash when it is.
Why do people always think I'm playing the Race Card???
Is it because I'm black???

Chad Hall is better than Riley Cooper. Less drops, better at getting separation and has proven to be a more dynamic and reliable target. Chad Hall also has special teams value. I don’t know why people hate on Chad Hall so much, the guy is really under appreciated.
The Curse of Lombardi
Iggles Nest
"Stats are for fantasy and losers. Winning is an attitude."
But he will never surpass Cooper on the depth chart.
As long as Cooper is an Eagle, he will never be behind Hall on the DC for WR. I don’t particularly think Chad Hall is really that good, but he has done INFINITELY better with his playing time than Cooper has. And even if he didn’t, he doesn’t have the huge drops to point to. For our backup receivers, I will take consistency over potential any day.

Cooper's biggest asset is that women go nuts for him
I managed to get a tour of the NovaCare Center last year. There was a smoking hot blonde MILF waiting at the entrance with her young son as we were waiting to be let in. A couple of players walk out one by onet, and Riley Cooper is one of them. The MILF looked like she forgot she was with her son and just stared at Riley as he walked by. She was practically drooling and sounded like she was out of breath when she says to me, “Who was that?” I tell her that was Riley Cooper, rookie WR. I look over at my wife and she’s gawking at him too. I hate that guy.
