Marty Mornhinweg Interviews With Raiders For Their HC Job

According to NFL.com's Jason LaCanfora, there may soon be two coaching vacancies in Philadelphia. Offensive Coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is scheduled to meet with the Raiders front office this weekend and interview for their vacant head coach position.

It has been widely speculated that the Raiders new general manager, Reggie McKenzie, will try to bring in many of the folks he knew from his time in Green Bay as their director of football operations. Before he found his way to the Eagles, Mornhinweg worked with McKenzie as an offensive assistant and quarterbacks coach for the Packers from 1995-96, so the connection is clear.

If he wins the job, this will mark Mornhinweg's second stint as a head coach, following his ill-fated season with the Lions in 2001.

While it would be difficult for the Eagles to replace him (Brad Childress, please keep your cell phone close), I'm sure that we can all wish Marty the best of luck at getting a shot in Oakland. Jamaal Jackson already has:

The Raiders are fucking retarded they shouldn’t have even fired Hue Jackson… they give him 1 year with a pretty bad team, he almost makes the playoffs… and he’s fired? What kind of bullshit is that?

you can clear house but you can’t get back the draft picks traded for him.

He really shouldn’t have pulled that trade for Palmer its just not a good trade and hurts the Raiders in the long run to get impact players out of the draft

So we lose possibly marty to oakland and also maybe spags to colts. Hope andy had a great vacation while our team got worse! Lurie should have pulled the plug 2 weeks ago.

given that Reid is in his final year or two

New rumor is Marty may interview with the Colts since Caldwell got fired since Grigson is down there now

by Easedel on Jan 17, 2012 6:00 PM EST reply actions

I agree marty should go. My concern is that our last hire(DC) was a flop. And now that andy is probably in his last year noone is willing to coach in philly knowing that any new HC next year will bring in his own men. Another reason Lurie should have fired Reid!

by phillyreaper on Jan 17, 2012 6:03 PM EST via iPhone app reply actions

Re-posting:

Speculating here:
But if Marty goes, I think Reid will strongly consider bringing back Brad Childress to be the OC.

Quote from the article:

“Brad knows any time Brad wants to come back, I’m here with open arms,” Reid said today in a conference call with Minnesota-area reporters. “I think Brad Childress should be given another opportunity as a head football coach. He does a heck of a job.”

by EvilBanner on Jan 17, 2012 8:28 PM EST reply actions

This is not good..

With our HC on vacation and the yearly carousel of coaching changes, I believe silence is never good. Many teams are decisive about “their” guys, and I clearly don’t understand why we can’t be as well. I can’t stress the importance or impact of a new OC and DC would mean to our team. We need to be very decisive about the 2012 season or this will truly be another 8-8 season if not worse. I am not even sure which coaches, offensive or defensive, are available. We, especially Reid/FO, always play our cards close. This is the wrong time

by Lawdhvmercy on Jan 17, 2012 10:33 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Playing our cards close

…is relative to the fan base. Obviously calls are being made. The fact that Eagles coaching/FO news doesn’t leak all over the net is a good thing.

by EagleinDC on Jan 17, 2012 10:57 PM EST up reply actions

Not really..

Exhibit A: Juan Castillo. See what p#ssyfootin’ around gets you? Get Spags by any means necessary, then go after Philbin (might need a change of scenery after son), Childress (is he still in touch with the game?), and the least sexy pic, Mike Martz (very Juan desperate like). My point is other teams are very decisive and don’t let sh#t drag out like a soap opera

by Lawdhvmercy on Jan 17, 2012 11:07 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

How would getting Martz be anything like when we made Castillo DC

by P_Roach17 on Jan 17, 2012 11:32 PM EST up reply actions

Last minute...

And lessor of two evils. There were waaay better candidates out there when we tapped Juan. I feel there are better candidates out there vs Martz. The longer we wait, then I believe our options will run thin.

by Lawdhvmercy on Jan 18, 2012 2:20 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Thing is, Martz is an established OC that has coached for a Superbowl winning team, and although he did not quite pan out the way Chicago would have liked you can’t compare him to a guy who was an OL coach turned DC. I don’t think bringing in Martz would be “Juan desperate like”

The Greatest Show on Turf

..guess you’re too young to remember that.

by ChillBillinChina on Jan 18, 2012 12:30 PM EST up reply actions

a new OC and DC would mean to our team.

Or getting a new OC and DC could set us back another year as the players have to learn new systems.

Some guy at PSU Hershey Med Center just discovered a virus that eats cancer. Where were the CNN trucks for that? THON will probably break $10 mil this year. Put that on "Outside the Lines".

by Ben16 on Jan 17, 2012 11:49 PM EST up reply actions

On defense, yes on offense, no. Andy is all about offense and knows nothing about defense (he never had to cuz he had Jim
Johnson). The offense will continue to be Andy’s system. Whoever he picks as a new OC is going to be a hand-picked coordinator who is a proponent of/willing to run Andy’s west-coast offense. There will be a few minor tweaks at most.

by FooFighter1124 on Jan 18, 2012 12:26 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Not sure...

I guess I want coaching staff (OC, DC) solidified, so we can start targeting FA and “their” guys in the draft. I am sure every OC has guys they like vs other OC’s choices; and DC’s do as well. Longer the wait, the worse it becomes to target guys. Senior Bowl in less than 2 weeks and Shrine afterwards. If I was a new DC especially with possibly installing a new “system”, I would want an early start. No lockout means I can give my guys playbooks earlier too

You can not I repeat can not give Marty a head coaching job, you can’t give Marty a Head Start with him messing it up. All I got to say is Lions vs Bears OT Lions win the toss coach Marty gives the ball to the Bears relying on the win not common sense.
