Doesn’t Nolan run the 3-4?

Let the beasting begin.

by TransplantedFan on Jan 17, 2012 3:06 PM EST reply actions

He’s run the 3-4 more recently, but used to work with 4-3, I’ve heard. So he’s versed in both. Either way, good news (potentially) for us.

Spags

He was in Indy all of Monday….

by eagles0133 on Jan 17, 2012 3:11 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I’m not sure how worried I am about the Saints getting Spags. We have more $ to offer, better talent, he’s familiar with the area & if Reid decides to hang them up he could be the next head coach here.

Saints have more stability. Sean Peyton’s job is safe for the next few years at the very least. Andy’s isn’t.

by JimmyK on Jan 17, 2012 3:21 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I would say they’re a better situation overall.

Maybe it’s because I’m one of his few supporters left(it seems like) but I think Andy’s job is safer then people think, I don’t think Lurie has that PC if the media wasn’t bothering him all year after we started 1-4 asking for a comment since he only speaks once a year & that’s at training camp. I do agree however that the Saints are probably more stable since we don’t know how much longer Andy wants to coach.

Marty and Spags

Was their GM with the Eagles when Spags was here?

Yeah Grigson started here in 2004

You sure about DC?

They just fired their HC.

NO! Stupid Colts have Peyton for a decade and then Luck for another, and now they want Spags?

IMO Colts are going to hire Spags for HC.

I’d be fine with Juan for another year. We need stability not a new DC every year.

I'm great like Gatsby.

by Clint Eastwood on Jan 17, 2012 3:26 PM EST via mobile reply actions

i don't see that...

too soon, and he had an awful sampling of W-L in three seasons. He’s a playcaller who needs to be groomed again.

Trevor Laws: "Thank Giants for kicking to (Desean)."
Mike Vick: "Why would they kick to Desean?"
Matt Dodge: "Snap too high!"
NJ Eagle: "Fly Eagles Fly!!!"

by NJEagle on Jan 17, 2012 3:36 PM EST up reply actions

I could see him either being a HC

Or being a dc with Marty as HC.

I'm great like Gatsby.

by Clint Eastwood on Jan 17, 2012 3:41 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

The Colts interviewed Spags (reportedly) while Caldwell was still HC… so it’s likely they were discussing the DC job, not the HC job.

i love this...3-4 switch

Curtis Lofton is a pure 4-3 middle linebacker so they may not resign him. Weatherspoon and who ever else they have would slide inside. This is very good for us even if we don’t get Spags. Nolan is a great coach and got screwed when Mike McCarthy left the Niners.

Trevor Laws: "Thank Giants for kicking to (Desean)."
Mike Vick: "Why would they kick to Desean?"
Matt Dodge: "Snap too high!"
NJ Eagle: "Fly Eagles Fly!!!"

by NJEagle on Jan 17, 2012 3:36 PM EST reply actions

this will set them back alittle i think

they aren’t really prepared for the switch but i hope it happens.

I'd love to sign Lofton

And draft Michael Floyd out of ND at 15th or Sanu in the late first or early second. Maybe trade up for a QB.

I'm great like Gatsby.

by Clint Eastwood on Jan 17, 2012 3:40 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Lofton would eat up so much cap space though

But I think we definitely need a veteran presence there. Having him + a guy like Kuechly would help the linebacking by so much next year.

by postman856 on Jan 17, 2012 11:39 PM EST up reply actions

Hopefully the DC decision is made before the senior bowl on Jan 28th.

Reid has to come out and say who is the DC this speculation and guessing crap has to end.

I wonder if Grigson will make a move to hire Mornhinweg as the Colts HC? Marty would be the perfect guy to develop Andrew Luck. If Mornhinweg is snatched away there have been rumors of Chilly coming back to Philly.

I'm not happy seeing Nolan

with an NFC team – he’s a great DC and would’ve been an upgrade over Juan

Cuz he needs time to think up a lame ass reason why he wants to keep Castillo as the DC.

Jeez people.

For real. People are being idiots. As if Spags is looking at other jobs out of spite for not having been hired by Reid already? People need to listen to themselves…

by EagleinDC on Jan 17, 2012 9:07 PM EST up reply actions

This is Nolan’s fourth team in five years (including his head coaching gig). While he seems like a good defensive coordinator, something has to be up if he is getting fired all the time.

RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.

Thats kinda how it go's when the head coach is fired.

the new one brings in his guy . Just look as far as the Dolphin D this yr and u can see it wasn’t on him.

Relax, we are not going to hire Spags or should I say it is unlikely the team will hire him. Plus a little perspective Spags first year as a D cord. 351 points allowed 5 times his team gave up more than 30 points and 3 times 20 or more points. Giants record in those games 0-5 30 points or more, 2-1 in 20 points or more games. Jaun’s first year 328 points allowed 5 times his team gave up 30 or more points and 3 times they gave up 20 or more. Eagles record in games they gave up 30 or more 0-5, record in games they gave up 20 or more 0-3. So maybe it might not be a bad thing if we kept Jaun? I would love to have Spags here but either way one could be optimistic if one was inclined to be.

by emtmess on Jan 17, 2012 4:35 PM EST reply actions

so we are 0-8 when teams score 20 or more points and almost 3/4 of nfl teams avg more than 20 points/game and your saying its not a bad thing to keep Juan as long as a team doesnt score more than 20pts?

by NJEaglesFan on Jan 17, 2012 5:55 PM EST up reply actions

What I am saying is Spags in his first year went 2-6 and Jaun went 0-8 when giving up more than 20 points. As you might already know our offense had as much to do with losing the games where we gave up more than 20 but less than 30 this year. There first years are very comparable and considering the off season and the fact that Jaun was never a Defensive coach in the NFL he did good enough to be considered for a follow up year even more so if we can not hire Spags.

by emtmess on Jan 17, 2012 7:52 PM EST up reply actions

Although i have my own gripes with Spags this isn't 1 of them.
Spags first year as a D cord. 351 points allowed 5 times his team gave up more than 30 points and 3 times 20 or more points.

Giants in 07 gave up 80pts in the 1st 2 games( learning the system). the next 6 was 13 pts on avg. the Vikes then scored 41 on 251 total yds. the Cowboys got 31 on 323 total yds. and 38 to the undefeated Pats 390 yds . None of the yds total’s are bad .( and some of these pts were on the O).
Plus they held up pretty well vs the Pats in rd 2.

I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.

Giant LB'zz SUCK!! Mark Herzlich, Jacquian Williams,...Maybe .. Sadly this has been modified.

I don’t have a gripe with Spags first year I just while looking over some numbers noticed that there overall numbers are pretty close. Also leading me to think that if we do not get Spags to come here that Jaun has done well enough to bring him back. Not saying that we should or the Eagles would just that he did not do as bad a job as some may have thought.

I think in that Vikings game Eli had 6 picks if I recall correctly

So technically the Giants defense only gave up 20 points in that Vikings game.

I kind of wish the Eagles took the aggressive approach to coaching hires as they did to F.A this past year.

Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.

That is all.

I mean that would make too much sense. Just sit back and wait until Andy comes back off vacation with some divine wisdom from Ms. Cleo. “Call me now……”
