Premature Preview of Super Bowl XLVI

Mcnabb_medium

What team should you pick to win the Super Bowl? Hopefully this preview can help you decide what team to pick. This preview does not contain statistics or game predictions. From an emotional view point, what team would you be comfortable of winning the Lombardi Trophy?

Star-divide

Breakdown of the Final Four:

Baltimore Ravens: Joe Flacco can finally answer his critics with a Super Bowl win. Talk about the Steelers eating crow ( specifically Lamar Woodley) Is it possible that Ray Lewis retire in grand fashion like Tony LaRussa did?

New England Patriots: Between the four teams, the New England Patriots are the only team who were favorites before the start of the season. This would be Tom Brady’s fifth Super Bowl appearance.

Fun fact: John Elway is the only quarterback to reached the Super Bowl five times. Don’t forget that the New England Patriots are honoring the late Myra Kate (Patriots’ owner wife).

New York Giants – The Giants might inspire some people with their trial and tribulation story.

San Francisco 49ers: The dark horse of the four teams. Talk about the biggest turnaround in sports. Last season, the Niners finished with a 6-10 record.

Possible Super Bowl Match ups:

New England Patriots vs San Francisco 49ers

The David and Goliath story in football form. A Future Hall of Fame Quarterback and coach against a rookie coach and an unproven quarterback. Can Alex Smith prove that he is a MVP quarterback? Can Tom Brady win his 4th championship furthering the gap between him and his peers?

Baltimore Ravens vs New York Giants

Grudge match of Super Bowl XXXV. Can Joe Flacco finally take the Baltimore Ravens to the promise land? Will Ray Lewis retire? Will the Ravens triumph over the Giants again? Is Eli Manning a one hit wonder? Are the Giants' lucky?

New England Patriots vs New York Giants

Grudge match of Super Bowl XLII. Most of the people I've talked to want this rematch. Can Tom Brady avenge his perfect season? Is Eli Manning an elite quarterback? Can Eli Manning produce his magic one more time? Is the Patriots’ defense the real deal? Can Eli Manning be considered for the Hall of Fame? I believe ESPN is dying for this rematch.

Baltimore Ravens vs San Francisco 49ers

Grudge match from the 2011 NFL season. The Ravens won the previous game 16-6. Two teams who no one picked to go to the Super Bowl, makes it. Can Joe Flacco proved that he is not a choke artist? Can the Raven’s Defense stop Frank Gore? Is Alex Smith a good quarterback? Who is the better coach between the Harbaugh brothers? Will the 49ers be a scary team next year?

Hopefully these questions can help you decide what team you want to win. Pick one of the options in the poll and explain why.

The Ravens were outplayed by the Texans so I really don’t see them beating the Pats.

by VBG on Jan 17, 2012 9:35 AM EST reply actions

difference

Texans have a running game and a good ass defense. Patriots have neither. They have a passing attack. I like Baltimores chances.

Don’t think Flacco is the guy to take the Ravens to the promise land. But it would be cool to see Ray Lewis walk into the sunset like that.

Prediction: Patriots over Giants

Hope: Niners over Ravens

I guess the glory that was the Philadelphia Eagles off-season counter-acts the dump that was the Flyers. Hmph.

I'd love for the Giants-Ravens matchup. I want revenge to wipe away the bad taste from 2000

I support the Giants like bras support Kim Kardashian's boobs. It can be a struggle, we've had some jiggles, but we're still firm.

well yeah, haha, so would I.

But if you got your pick of AFC opponents (and to be fair, they’d all be good/SB caliber teams)….I’d pick the team that beat us in the SB.

At least one more year of Andy and Juan. If they don't win it all they both better be gone!

No way Eagles draft a LB in the first round 2012.

I hate the Ravens, I hate the Patriots. I want the Pats to beat the Ravens and then the 49ers to win it all. Sadly, I don’t see that happening.

Haha. This playoff is weird. I have a feeling that fucking Giants are going to win. History says so… what team got hot last year… the Packers. I rest my case.

I think everyone should be bilateral coordinated.

by BIBTD on Jan 17, 2012 12:37 PM EST up reply actions

yea

the Giants are a scary team right now,, the defense is playing out its mind right now and when did Eli start playing like Peyton? Is he just destined to out do his big brother? I think so and it is sad because I would take Peyton over Eli any day.

by DcEagles29 on Jan 17, 2012 12:51 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

I went with

The Ravens – Giants in the playoff pool posted last week. I am sticking with that with the Ravens pulling it out in a much better match-up then the last time they played in the superbowl. We all remember the beating NY took that day :)

by DcEagles29 on Jan 17, 2012 12:49 PM EST reply actions

i hate the pats for the bowl in 04, but..

I hate the gmen even more. so screw ‘em both – I want niners-ravens, the harbaugh bowl. I’d want B-more to win because I still harbor some affection for John

by mt6112a on Jan 17, 2012 1:31 PM EST reply actions

I want Ravens vs. 49ers

Harbaugh vs. Harbuagh. I like to see a underdog and unexpected team reach the superbowl (49ers) and with John Harbuagh being the Eagles ST coach and Ed Reid being one of my fav non-eagles player, I follow the Ravens somewhat closely.

I voted Harbowl

The 49ers already beat the Giants once, and the Patriots are overdue for a comeuppance.

By the way, what’s in the covered pan on the far left, and are those pita bread triangles or tortilla chips?

French fries are really Belgian, sausages and bagels have the same amount of protein, two countries' names mean "turkey", and Santa Claus was invented by the Coca-Cola company. Is life weird or what?

49ers v Ravens

Think they both advance to the Superbowl by forcing turnovers, really impressed by how 49ers are hitting & tackling.

Giants Vs dont care
The dark horse of the four teams. Talk about the biggest turnaround in sports. Last season, the Niners finished with a 6-10 record.

I think this is a bit over blown being as the 9ers were supposed to do this last yr.

I may not be the most noble of men but in a town of lepers, im the one with the most fingers.

Giant LB'zz SUCK!! Mark Herzlich, Jacquian Williams,...Maybe .. Sadly this has been modified.

they were supposed to be 13-3 and heading to the nfc championship game?

after beating the saints? …i dont think so

yes last yr they were faves to win the Div. Many had them going 11-5 due to soft schedule.

and they failed .

My gut feeling is that SF will beat NYG in the NFCCG. I honestly think that if it came down to to a Patriots-Giants rematch, the Giants would win.
