No Eagles Among ESPN's Top Five Pass Rushers

ESPN's Matt Williamson published his list of the top five pass rushers in the NFL today and despite the fact that they led the NFL in sacks, no Eagles made the list. The article is behind an Insider wall, but the list is DeMarcus Ware, Jared Allen, Tamba Hali, Jason Pierre-Paul & Terrell Suggs in that order.

Both Jason Babin and Trent Cole both made his "honorable mention" list. Babin has more sacks this year and over the last two years than anyone on the list or in the honorable mentions outside of Ware & Allen...

What would your top five pass rusher list look like?

No way in hell is Babin the best pure pass rusher in the league. He benefits greatly from Cole being on the opposite side.

You numbered it from 1 to 5…

It's just the 5 best

Not it in order though but I guess you can read my mind so you’re probably right.

If you were ranking pure DE’s, the list would be different, but based on just pass rushing, Babin has to make that list.

AR should have to wear a Flava Flav necklace until he learns how to manage a clock.

In terms of pure pass rushers, I’d probably put Babin in there… but I can see where he’s coming from because if you put any of those 5 guys in a wide 9 they’d fuck shit up

Top Pass Rushers

lets key on the term term “pass rusher” this is not solely based on sack numbers. "Pass Rushers in my mind are disrupters in the back field and players who O-lines scheme for, double team, etc. (trying not to be Eagles biased)

1) Demarcus Ware
2) T-Sizzle
3) Trent Cole
4) Justin Tuck
5) James Harrison

Let's go EAGLES!!!

Babin has to make that list, best DE is different from best pass rusher.

Babin is a top 5 pass rusher, with his weakness against the run I can understand him not being a top 5 DE.

I am Sandy's bitch.

LOL figured Id look up Eagles DE busts since 1997 (rounds 1-3)

1) Jerome Mcdougle
2) Victor Abiamiri
3) Bryan Smith
4) DTO (Teo- Neshiem)
5) Jon Harris (look him up, pre Reid era but still funny. 1st round pick only in the NFL for 3 years…)

honorable mention: Brandon Graham. we’ll see what he does next year, hopefully he stays healthy.

Let's go EAGLES!!!

Abriami and McDougle

never were injured in college and were always injured in the pro’s. Not that that means they would be good but it’s not really a fair assessment. This is also old news. DE, LB’s, DT’s and for many many years WR ..Mitchell Pinkston, Na Brown etc

At least one more year of Andy and Juan. If they don't win it all they both better be gone!

Photo Caption

Not that it matters, but I assume the photo captions come with the pictures you select from AP. That’s obvioulsy not Antonio Dixon. You can even see the “JE-” in “JENKINS” on his jersey.

I believe it, never really remember anything negative I could say about the guy. Not even as a football player.

Haha. He actually installed like 4 electric outlets and an ac unit in my room for me

He also talked a lot about his time with the birds and stuff about Reid.

Ware, Cole/Wake (tie), A. Smith, Allen/Babin (tie)

1. DeMarcus Ware: the total package as a pass rusher
2. Trent Cole: consistent unwavering pressure. his overall defense isn’t weakened when he rushes (unlike Allen or Babin).
2. Cameron Wake: no one disrupted QB play more often in 2011
Cole and Wake similarly lose nothing in other phases of their game when emphasizing the rush; hence the tie
4. Aldon Smith: unbelievably good rookie year. The former 1st rounder will be at the top of this list by 2013.
5. Jared Allen/Jason Babin: sack machines

by 1993Heel on Jan 13, 2012 12:34 AM EST reply actions

Check that, make it:

1. Cameron Wake
2. Aldon Smith
3. Jared Allen
4. Trent Cole
5. DeMarcus Ware
Based on a combination of overall production on the pass rush in 2011, production per down, tweaked a tiny bit by the ability to still stop the run (“pure” pass rush is meaningless and even detrimental to defense). Note that there’s a former CFL star at the top of my list, Cameron Wake. Note also that Aldon Smith didn’t have his first career sack until week 4 (against Vick) and never was a starter in a single game this year.
