Eagles Will Pick 15th In The 2012 Draft

The Giants victory over the Cowboys tonight means that the Eagles have finished in 2nd place in the NFC and will pick 15th in the upcoming draft, one slot after the Cowboys.

And I'll double check this but I believe the pick they got for Kevin Kolb from Arizona will be 13th in the 2nd round. So they'll pick 13th and 15th in that round.

Kuechly is gone before 15. I have no basis for believing this*, so feel free to tear it apart.

*I do not do much research on the NFL Draft until like a week before it. With the all-star games, Senior Bowl, and the combine, it is just too fluid and changing for me to follow at this point. To say the least, the NFL Draft is not my strongsuit.

I don’t think he’ll be gone. Linebackers that go high (like top 15, high) are typically athletic freaks like Patrick Willis, Aaron Curry, Keith Rivers and Brian Urlacher. Kuechly isn’t that type of guy, Kuechly is more of a Demeco Ryans, James Laurinaitis type and those typically slide a bit.

Hmmm...

I think this is going to be one of the more interesting Eagles draft in a while, I can see them maneuvering a lot and going after need with their early picks, because they’re not too far away. Can’t wait.

Since I don’t keep up with college football, don’t know much about the players, isn’t Burflict supposed to be a beast though or is he just show flashes of greatness and is not consistent ?

by Eagladelphia on Jan 2, 2012 1:55 AM EST up reply actions

He's a beast to the people with blind eyes

And to everyone else, he’s the latter. You know how people fall in love with a player who’s big and fast and strong (ala Taylor Mays, JPP). But what may be worse than Burfict’s attitude is his understanding of the game. He knows how to play the game of football….with his physical skills alone, but he may lack instincts and it showed a lot this season. When teams started game planning against him he didn’t respond well.

He pretty much is Taylor Mays with more attitude, he may be bigger, stronger, faster than everyone, but he can’t control it all. If he learns how to harness somehow, he ceiling is very high. But whether or not he learns to harness it is anyone’s guess and to be honest, I think its more unlikely than likely.

He’s limited, he’s big and unathletic/stiff. He’s not a real good fit for a 4-3 defense. He should be a fantastic 3-4 player though. Love him, he’s a heavy hitter.

I could see them trading a ton to move

up and get RG3. The way I se it there are 2 elite Qbs in the draft (Luck/RG3) and since all the teams like seattle, miami, KC, washington can’t get Luck they’ll all go agressively after RG3. And l could see the redskins bidding something like the atlanta/julio jones trade last year (which would be stupid because they have way too many holes to give up a bunch of picks). Either that or stay where they are and take Landry Jones because for some reason people see something in him that makes him a first round pick that I don’t see. And Tannehill will be there too. I just think somehow they go after a QB.

by KevinEagles on Jan 2, 2012 12:51 AM EST up reply actions

I don’t see them taking RG3. After the Mcnabb fiasco (for them), Shanahan is only going to be interested in traditional pocket passing QBs. He’s too old school to think outside the box and take a dual threat.

by BrandonB on Jan 2, 2012 1:31 AM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

Not all dual-threat qb's are the same

For one thing, Elway himself was an athletic scrambler.

For another, RGIII is more accurate than McNabb. He did come from a spread, but his ceiling is in the Newtonian ballpark

by tanman5 on Jan 2, 2012 12:48 PM EST up reply actions

Are you actually comparing Elway’s running ability to RG3? I love RG3, but I’m saying I don’t see Shanahan taking him. He wants a traditional pocket passing QB, which RG3 is not.

by JasonB on Jan 2, 2012 1:50 AM EST up reply actions

I'm hoping

Reid finally caught the hint this year that a worthwhile LB is needed on this team. Mathis should be resigned because the argument can (and rightfully ought to) be made that he was the second best lineman on the team after Peters. We don’t need a CB with Asomugha and DRC, Landri, Dixon, Cullen look to be a fine group of DTs. The ends should be set with Cole and Babin (with Graham waiting in the wings). RB is fine, WRs may be a take even though I think that position can be filled through either FA or 2nd or 3rd round of the draft.

The only position position that could rival our need for a LB is WR possibly and S maybe, but with such a weak safety draft and with Allen, Coleman, and Jarrett still being so young, doesn’t look like that position is gonna be addressed. I mean, I wanna say Reid should have no other reason than to look at LBs, but for some reason I have that doubt inside me that Reid will neglect to look at that spot. I just could see that if Kuechly is there, Reid would still find a way to mess it all up.
