NFL Week 17 Afternoon Games Open Thread

There are a few games that count this afternoon in the NFL. The Broncos and Raiders are still both fighting for the AFC West. The Falcons can move into the fifth seed with a win over the Bucs. Since that game is basically already over, that means Atlanta will face the winner of the Giants vs Cowboys game in the wildcard round.

[Note by JasonB, 01/01/12 5:12 PM EST ] Todd Herremans and a few other OL have said that Howard Mudd told them that he would be back in 2012. That's great news.

Seriously, that game was over before it started.

I really feel for the Bucs. Josh Freeman has a lot of talent and potential, but their cheap ass owners refuse to put money into the team and give him any kind of support. The Bucs might have 150 million dollars in cap space next season and they probably won’t sign anybody. Maybe a couple scrubs to fill roster spots.

And it appears like he’ll have a new coach next year…

I wonder who they’ll bring in. Raheem Morris is also their defensive coordinator, and he’s one of the lowest paid coaches out there. I wonder what young coach they’re going to sucker into taking the job for little pay and throw him out to the wolves with a roster devoid of talent.

I’d feel for the Buc fans, but be thrilled that he was out of our hair. If he comes back next season we can probably just go ahead and kiss the playoffs good-bye.

True

He was the low cost option. At this point, you’d have to be a pretty desperate assistant to take that job.

Maybe that alone will save Morris

Random Thought

I hope the Chiefs beat the Broncos and the Raiders beat the Chargers. It would be nice to see Orton keeps the team that threw him to the side from the playoffs.

Broncos shut out in the first half.

And since Dawkins is out, I really have no reason to root for that team. So, go Chiefs.

Matt Ryan has already been pulled. It’s still the 1st half. This is worse then watching Alabama beat up on some D2 team.

Tampa Bay is a wretched franchise.

Time to get ready for the Giants game and also to prepare myself for tomorrow’s Spadlawlor article praising Castillo’s grit.

God Damn you, Andy Reid.

I love you, EB

But don’t do Lawlor that disservice. He’s a fantastic analyst with a great eye for film and good, clear writing.

He’s too optimistic at times but don’t call him that. He deserves better.

Tebow had his helmet grabbed twice on a play and didn’t get one flag for it.

Thank fuck for that. We need him back badly, especially for Watkins and Kelce. He can keep grooming Chung.
