Eagles WR Steve Smith A Full Go In Practice
The Eagles sent out their first injury report of the week and the only real surprise was that Steve Smith was a full participant. That means he took all the snaps he was scheduled to and should be on track to play this weekend. Andy Reid has previously expressed some doubt about Smith being ready, but his being a full participant in practice is a pretty good sign. Reid said today that Smith has been running with the ones and that he wants to see how he feels at the end of the week
"He's going to go through this week, he's been taking reps with the first group in a rotation there, so I'm just going to see how he works out this week." Reid said. "I know he wants to play, and feels like he's ready. We'll just see how everything goes."
Practicing full go with the first team? We should all be very encouraged to hear that. The only player who did not practice today was Vince Young, who is still dealing with a hamstring strain. Reid says he's day to day and getting better.
"He's getting better; he's running on it in the pool, it's really just a day-to-day thing right now. Making great progress, working his tail off, he's been in there since he had the injury every day and long hours"

Just remember, when you guys want to bitch at Roseman for getting guys like Watkins in the 1st round….. he still makes impressive moves like getting Smith at the last second…. He could be an impactful player on this team this year, regardless of our already stellar group of WRs
FLY #7 FLY !!!
i'm excited to see him play
but i do admit a small part of me kinda wanted both maclin and smith to miss the first game or so just so big red might lean on the run and (hopefully) realize that we could have something special there. that would ostensibly help out kelce too, no?
but i won’t complain seeing the 4wr set of jackson, maclin, avant and smith trot out for the first play, haha.
Highlight of my (non-existant) football career: singlehandedly taking over and winning the annual last-day-of-recess game for my fellow 4th graders against the big bad 5th graders. Anyone in the market for the poorest man's version of DJax for flag football or something, you know where to look.
I don't know how hard...
it is to get a guy when you offer twice what his old team was offering but looking forward to seeing him on the field.

I don’t understand criticizing the FO for Watkins already. People are really overreacting over the news that he is not starting this Sunday.
Brandon Graham
May have gotten a bad rap going into the season, but he wasn’t very impressive well beyond Week 1.
(However, when your “Jim Johnson disciple” Coordinator manages to make Trent Cole look like a ho-hum pass rusher, I’m willing to put the lion’s share on blame on “Drop my DE into coverage” McDermott for Graham’s performance)

Just ignore them. Watkins and Graham should not be evaluated now. Graham shouldnt be evaluated until atleast week 10. Even then it is probably unfair. Same for Watkins.
Graham
will be a beast in Wash’s system and definitely should not be evaluated until he has had time to fully recover and learn the new system

Graham shouldn't be evaluated until next season really.
He needs to be healthy and in the system before he can be properly judged.
Maybe you should publish guidelines.
Some fans may be a little rusty on knowing exactly when is the right time to “judge” a player.
It is such a critical function ( you know, when a fan judges a player, coach or GM ) that a mistaken evaluation or judgement
might be devastating.
"Even those invested in the idea that the journey is the destination may feel they've taken a train to nowhere." - Terry Lawson
How about give the player a chance to actually prove himself before judging him?
Say, a full season? Barring absolute and utter shittiness that doesn’t seem like a ridiculous thing to suggest. But by your condescending response I take it you know better?
And if not a full season ...
Perhaps a real game or five?
There are no reasonable people who would suggest it’s a good idea to judge a rookie for not starting Week 1. There are, however, plenty of Eagles fans who are not reasonable.

the guy is learning an entirely new system and he doesn’t have a lot of experience doing that. It will take some time but I bet he’ll be starting by mid-season at the latest.

I think people forget that Watkins was not able to participate in minicamps and off-season OTAs because of the lockout. He needs time, people should not be so quick to turn on him and consider him a bust when he has not even played one regular season game yet.

With all that said
I think Watkins better earn his job back by the end of the Season. If he isn’t starting by the end of the year, I would consider that a little disappointing. He was a 1st round pick, in a draft crowded with quality OL players. We should all expect Watkins to be a staple at the RG position for many years, and hopefully Kelce at C, and there’s no reason why that can’t happen this year.
Yeah it's weird, rookies are never a guarantee
to be good out the gate.
Watkins doesn’t have a lot of slack with fans cuz he’s 26, but also those are the same fans complaining we were gonna get Vick killed, so they should be happy.

That non-sense has been predicted every year for the last 10 years. Always wrong.
Meanwhile, what are you going to do that will be of tangible help to the victims of Tropical Storm Lee?
Nothing? I thought so.
"Even those invested in the idea that the journey is the destination may feel they've taken a train to nowhere." - Terry Lawson
Can we dispel this myth once and for all?
The Eagles were 15th in attempts per game last season (26.8), 5th in yards per game (145.2) and 1st by a lot in yards per carry (5.4).
Even if you take Vick’s stats out, they led the league in ypc.
Running more often doesn’t always mean running more effectively.
To w_e’s original point, they’re running 31 times a game this preseason. Might not mean much, but it’s at least a small reason to believe the runs might increase, along with the level of talent and the fact that we expect to be able to play from ahead.
-- Secretary of State for BGN aka "Most diplomatic man on this site," as appointed by Talon Talent
-- Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
-- "The only 'Dream Team' I know about is the Green Bay Packers." -- Jeffrey Lurie
There's more to it though
The Eagles will run to kill off a game if they’ve got a second half lead… but if you look at first half running, the Eagles had the third lowest percentage of run plays in the NFL.
So really that tells me that their high run totals from last year were just a function of how often they had a lead late.
Follow Bleeding Green Nation on Twitter & Facebook. Did you get your copy of the 2011 Eagles Annual yet?
Isn't the important part of that stat
that the Eagles had the lead????

Also, Vick ran 100 times, or 23.364486% of Eagles "rushing attempts".
They were called pass plays.
"Even those invested in the idea that the journey is the destination may feel they've taken a train to nowhere." - Terry Lawson
What is the myth that you want to dispel?
The Eagles led the league in ypc but they ran the ball 328 times. Vick’s 100 carries were called as pass plays (other than maybe 5-10 called QB runs). It looks like that puts them at about 27th in the league, not 15th. And this year will be more of the same.
So, again, what is the myth?
"Even those invested in the idea that the journey is the destination may feel they've taken a train to nowhere." - Terry Lawson
I’d say Vick had more than 5-10 called runs.
Follow Bleeding Green Nation on Twitter & Facebook. Did you get your copy of the 2011 Eagles Annual yet?

2 a game.
"Even those invested in the idea that the journey is the destination may feel they've taken a train to nowhere." - Terry Lawson
Well obviously no where near 100, but more than you might expect. Plus, I know there option type plays he ran as well. So they could be seen as a called run also.

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

Peyton Manning out for the year.
The latest on Colts QB Peyton Manning. Jake Query, a radio host on WNDE in
Indianapolis is reporting that sources are telling him that Peyton Manning
is out for the year.
I'll believe it when I see it for real.
"On the flip side, though, Bleeding Green Nation cites a PFF study that says Jackson dropped the highest percentage of catchable passes (19.67 percent) of any receiver in the league last year. I think he also dropped that punt at the end of the last Giants game. But then he picked it back up."
lmao they're already debating drafting Andrew Luck on Stampede Blue
"I love my Ducks (wait 'til you see my O)"
They should. That team ain’t shit without an elite QB.

If Manning is done for the year, I'd call it a real possibility.
He, alone, wills that team to win. No other player is as important to his team as Manning is to Indy.

They fucked around with his neck man…theres a lot that can go wrong when you mess with nerve endings…
FLY #7 FLY !!!
With a head like that...
it was only a matter of time before the neck was compromised.
And, oh by the way, my deepest condolences to Indy fans ( especially those sick fucks who invaded this blog last year).
I have reserved 2 full days during the bye week for all out, uncontrollable sobbing in honor of Bucket-head’s injury. I so want him ( and all players ) to be healthy.

Well, at least we’ll be able to find out whether that is actually true or not.

I can tell you right now,
that quote was pulled out of the author’s ass. There is no way (or reason ) to prove it true or false.

I tend to find a lot of crazy things from my ass
but you’re entirely right. It really is just a gut feeling I have.
It’s pretty well considered that a good QB is necessary to win and that a good QB can maybe even create a few extra wins when the talent around him isn’t all that great. I kind of just extended this logic, and my own feelings about Manning, to come to that conclusion.
We’ll certainly see how it holds up if Manning sits this year.
"On the flip side, though, Bleeding Green Nation cites a PFF study that says Jackson dropped the highest percentage of catchable passes (19.67 percent) of any receiver in the league last year. I think he also dropped that punt at the end of the last Giants game. But then he picked it back up."
that would just be unfair
we still don’t know if the kid will live up to the hype, but peyton manning followed by andrew luck? eff that.

I was gonna say the same thing.
Let some other franchise get the new Peyton Manning. Although, if it means the Redskins don’t get Luck, than I guess I’m all for it.
i know we all hate on the redskins (and with good reason)...
…but even i don’t think the redskins could compete with the futility of the panthers/bengals/bills.

Agree
The Bills are the only one that needs another franchise QB too.
Maybe Miami or somebody unexpected will tank who knows?

It's the Redskins.
They can definitely compete in any competition that involves futility. I figure they will be up there in the top 5 or so at least and the other teams you mentioned, besides the Bills, technically have their franchise guys in place. Though you have to think the Bengals would go for Luck over Dalton even at this early a stage.
You're way off on 'Skins.
I don’t think there is more than a 3% chance the Redskins are top 5 worst record this year. I would say 7-9 at worst, 10-6 at best. Dallas and NJ could fail miserably.

3%?

i agree, i dont think the redskins are a bottom 5 team. I think they have a good enough defense that puts then out of the bottom 5.
Their players actually fit their system now
I don’t know why they’d be worse than last year.
They’re not yet “dangerous,” but at least they’ve stopped being a danger to themselves.

How on earth could they draft Luck after giving Manning $90 million this year? They’re locked into Manning.
If they got the #1 pick, they’d trade it.

Yeah, but they’ll still have to guarantee Luck around $25 to $30 million and his contract will expire at the same time as Manning’s, which they can’t get out of.

Yeah Bradford got like $50 mil guaranteed. But the point is that Luck is going to get at least $25 and they can’t pay him that and pay Manning $90 mil.

Fly Eagles Fly, on the road to Vicktory!
Makes no sense in my opinion to pick him up because we have so many recievers his value isn't well

depends how deep the league is
both re: bench spots and in number of teams/thinness of rosters.
And if it’s a dynasty jawn. then you grab guys for cheap now who might have value in the future.

Also
Theres good chances that they use Smith in the Redzone on the inside. He may not get many passes thrown his way, but he may still get TDs.

Good thought
I grabbed him really late in a couple of deep drafts based on track record alone. Who knows?

Uh...
…now, I have empathized with the Giants for all of their season ending injuries…to laugh at that would be “mean or hurtful”. But to laugh at them for mistakenly reading Steve Smith’s injury allowing him to go to a division rival on a one year deal is not mean or hurtful at all.

Late to the party, but
really excited to see Steve Smith in action against the Rams… as long as the o-line can hold up, the offense is going to be unstoppable… Rams might quit by the 3rd quarter..
