Terrell Owens Says DeSean Jackson Shouldn’t Play
Appearing on 97.5 The Fanatic Tuesday afternoon, T.O. was asked if he would take the field Week 1 against the Rams without a new contract if he were in Jackson’s shoes. "Absolutely not," Owens replied. "I would have to better myself and my family and my situation. That’s ridiculous."

DeSean Jackson will sign his contract...
Friday at 630pm. It will be 6yrs 30mil guarenteed, 65 mil total. But upon further review it is really 5 yrs 20mil guarenteed due to a similar playing time clause as Vick.
I think they are just making him sweat..
for coming to camp late, and having an asshat for an agent. I hope hes signed before kickoff.

You think DJax will get close to 11 mil a year?
I was thinking around 8.5
Brian Dawkins for President
Ok when I look at a contract I look at the guarenteed money. Because you can scew the rest of that money throughout the contract and the player will most likely not see it. So we could give Desean a nice singing bonus and only pay him 5-7mil a yr, with the last yr or two jumping up. Dont get too hung up on the total value, just the guarenteed.
8.5? Negative
7 tops. Whatever it is they need to hurry the hell up and get him signed.

If you dont think desean will get 30mil guarenteed
what do you think he will get? Chris Johnson just got that much money and I would argue Desean is just as dangerous as Johnson. Also WR are usually paid more than RB in the league. Holmes got 24mil guarenteed on a 50mil contract. 30mil guarenteed, 65 total is right where Desean falls in. If we can get him for less great. but that is his MARKET worth right now.
the Worst Part
Is that T.O. is probably right. While his asking for a new contract in his situation was somewhat ludicrous and he handled it terribly, DeSean has been the good soldier. He showed up to camp and has not said a word, and the Eagles reward him by reportedly not even talking about a new deal for him? DeSean came and had faith the Eagles would show their gratitude, which they should since his contract is a joke and they are doing nothing. The Eagles are completely wrong here and I’m honestly shocked DeSean isn’t holding out.

To be fair
the fact we havent heard anything doesnt mean they are not talking. even if both sides are saying they are not talking, they probably are. That is just how the FO operates.

you are probably right
The Eagles certainly wouldn’t let anyone know they are in negotiations. The only reason we knew for certain about Vick was because he pretty much let it slip on an interview on 97.5

However...
…T.O. is still right. DeSean SHOULD be holding out. However, that would only worsen his situation as, with the new CBA, he would lose his year towards free agency and be in the same situation next year.
But ask the two Giants players who have ACL tears in their “contract year” if he should be holding out and you will get the only answer you need.
I-C-Y-U-H8-ME
NO ... not at $30K per DAY he shouldn't!!
Thats the new fine for holding out under the new CBA. He cant afford to.

No...
…what he can’t afford is to blow out his knee while under this new contract. As long as he is either A) Under a contract commensurate with his production OR B)Still healthy, everything else is water under the bridge. He will make money somewhere as long as he is healthy…hopefully it is in Philly.
I-C-Y-U-H8-ME
His contract isn’t a joke, it’s was the going contract for a 2nd round pick, and he wasn’t even our first round pick. Did he outperform it? Sure. But he still has to play under it. We’ll get something done for the guy.
I kind of don't agree with that...
a team can cut you at any time even if you have time left on your contract, so why shouldn’t a player have the same power?

you can't force a person to remain under contract
there may be certain penalties, but ultimately in America one is free to make and break contracts. People, companies etc. break contracts everyday. My point is if DeSean really feels there is a risk that he could get injured, thus hurting his long term earning potential, then its his right to refuse to work under his current contract (while accepting the consequences of that – such as having to sit out etc.) in the hopes of finding something more lucrative. That’s business and it goes both ways.

I’ve seen Fox hyping Eagles/Rams in Indiana. Anyone know if the TV mapis ever wrong? The Rams don’t exactly make TV in Indiana every week.
Do you actually agree with owens, or do you think Djax should be paid?
Because to me they are two seperate things. Everyone agrees djax should be paid. But to go about it the way Ownen’s says too is just dumb.
I believe that DJ should be holding out.
by captain nodar on Sep 7, 2011 10:54 AM EDT up reply actions
Really?
That would royaly screw him over. because
1.) the eagles would def. not pay him then.
2.) He would lose a yr of elgibility and not become a UFA next yr.
It is a gamble I think he should take. The front office knows that he deserves to be paid, and they also know that we the fans are aware that he deserves to be paid. As steadfast as the Eagles can be, I believe they would eventually work out a contract with DJ if he were holding out. Besides fan backlash, they risk losing face with players as well. Whether it is right or wrong, sitting back and absolutely refusing to negotiate with a player unless he reports, especially in DJ’s particular case, would hurt the FO more in the long run.
by captain nodar on Sep 7, 2011 11:07 AM EDT up reply actions
All of this is moot IMO
Djax will be paid, they have the cap space. It will just be a few more days. im sticking with 6yrs 30mil guarenteed
I am thinking more than that ...
I am thinking 6yrs 50mil. HE should be careful though because if Steve Smith proves to be more valuable for a lesser contract next year, I would not be suprised if the Front Office weighs that all out.

It would take all of five mintues to blow up that strategy.
“DeSean has clearly outplayed his contract, and we want to extend his deal so that the most dynamic playmaker in the NFL stays an Eagle throughout his career. But we have a standing policy that we do not negotiate with players who are holding out. We didn’t negotiate with Brian Westbrook, we didn’t negotiate with Terrell Owens and we aren’t going to break that policy. We’ll be happy to negotiate with DeSean and his representatives, but not until he reports to the team.”

I’m pretty sure blackouts are only in the city the team plays in. Miami’s far enough away that we wouldn’t be effected by a Tampa blackout.
by philiafan14364 on Sep 7, 2011 11:04 AM EDT up reply actions
How far away is Tampa & Miami? Here is the Blackout Policy
In the NFL, any broadcaster that has a signal that hits any area within a 75 miles (121 km) radius of an NFL stadium may only broadcast a game if that game is a road game, or if the game sells out 72 hours or more before the start time for the game.6 If sold out in less than 72 hours, or is close to being sold out by the deadline, the team can sometimes request a time extension. Furthermore, broadcasters with NFL contracts are required to show their markets’ road games, even if the secondary markets have substantial fanbases for other teams (like in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, officially a Baltimore Ravens secondary market, but home to a lot of Pittsburgh Steelers fans). Sometimes if a game is within a few hundred tickets of selling out, a broadcaster with rights to show the nearly sold out game will buy the remaining tickets (and give them to local charities) so it can broadcast the game. Other teams elect to close off sections of their stadium, but cannot sell these tickets for any game that season if they choose to do so.7 As a result, if the home team’s game is a Sunday day game both networks can air only one game each in that market. (Until 2001, this rule applied whether or not the game was blacked out, however, this was changed because some markets virtually never aired doubleheaders as a result.) Usually, but not always, when each network can show only one game each in a market, the two stations work out between themselves which will show an early game and which will show a late game. This only affects the primary market, and not markets in a 75-mile (121 km) radius, which always get a doubleheader each Sunday.
There are two exceptions to the rule. The first is for the Green Bay Packers, which have two overlapping 75-mile blackout zones—one surrounding the team’s stadium in Green Bay and another surrounding Milwaukee. The team’s radio flagship station is in Milwaukee, and the Packers played part of their home schedule in Milwaukee from 1953 through 1994. However, this policy has never been implemented in the Packers’ case, as they have sold out every home game in Green Bay since 1960 and have a decades-long season-ticket waiting list (games in Milwaukee also sold out during this period). The second exception is for the Bills Toronto Series; by a technicality, Rogers Communications (the team’s lessee) owns all tickets to those games and resells them to potential fans. Thus, even if the games do not sell out, it is still technically a sellout (since Rogers is said to have bought the tickets) and the games are televised. This rule has come into play for both Toronto Series preseason games.89
The NFL blackout is considered to be detrimental to financially struggling teams. For instance, most notably, the Los Angeles Rams were unable to sell-out their home games during their last years in that city (a notable exception being the 1994 game against then-crosstown rivals the Raiders). So a blackout further robbed the franchise of potential revenue and alienated remaining fans. The Rams relocated to St. Louis before the 1995 season (the Raiders also left LA, going back to their original home in Oakland).
For other games, no station within the 75-mile (121 km) radius of an NFL stadium may broadcast a game unless it has an affiliation deal with one of the local teams involved. One instance of the practice of this rule was over Hartford, Connecticut CBS affiliate WFSB trying to air a New England Patriots-New York Giants game for December 29, 2007, which would be carried only on the NFL’s cable network NFL Network that at the time was available only on a sports channel package of Comcast Cable in the immediate viewing areas of the Patriots and Giants.10
On December 12, 2007, Broadcasting & Cable reported that Senator John Kerry and Rep. Ed Markey, both of the state of Massachusetts and fans of the New England Patriots team, wrote to the NFL as well as Comcast Cable and Time Warner Cable to request that the Patriots-Giants game be aired at least on basic cable in order to reach the highest possible number of television-viewing fans, as at the time the Patriots were undefeated, and Kerry and Markey viewed the game as “potentially historic”, according to John Eggerton of B&C.11 Kerry clarified the next week that he did not intend to interrupt current negotiations between the cable operators and NFL.12 On December 19, 2007, representative Joe Courtney (D-CT) and other members of the Connecticut Congressional Delegation wrote to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to try to have the NFL allow wider broadcast access to the game.10 Consequently, on December 26, the NFL approved the game to be simulcast from NFL Network to both the CBS and NBC networks., along with WCVB in the Boston market and WWOR-TV in the New York City market.13
A lot more.
I live here in Jacksonville and I’m probably going to be forced to watched the Eagles game on the computer since they are probably going to be showing the Buccaneers game. I hope they show the Eagles Game, but they usually show Falcons and Bucs instead…

If Jackson has a serious injury before he signs a new deal, he will be working for peanuts next year, that just the way of the NFL. I’m sure the Eagles and Jackson are on the verge of a new contract, but if he plays a game under his current contract he is taking a huge gamble.
