The Linc - Buddy Ryan Battling Cancer

Former Eagles coach Ryan battling cancer again
Former Eagles head coach Buddy Ryan is battling cancer, but plans to be in attendance to see his sons Rex and Rob coach when the Jets face the Cowboys on Sunday.

Sad to see yet another member of the Eagles family dealing with cancer. Remember that we're raising money for the American Cancer Society and giving away a pair of tickets to Eagles vs Cowboys.

DeVan just happy to be in Philadelphia - National voices - MercedSun-Star.com
By some strange twist of either fate or karma, DeVan landed the locker next to defensive tackle Trevor Laws, against whom he wrestled a titanic heavyweight match in high school, the actual outcome of which the two men have debated for more than eight years.

Rookie Lewis learning Eagles' approach to running the ball | Philadelphia Inquirer | 09/04/2011
In the Eagles offense, it's not as simple as just running at the first opening. Instead, the team wants running backs to take precise routes that force the defense's hand. If the backs can approach an opening in a way that makes the linebackers take a certain angle, offensive linemen will have an easier time anticipating, and making their blocks.

Tim Kawakami: Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens are Super Bowl picks - San Jose Mercury News
No drum roll, just the 2011 prediction: Philadelphia vs. Baltimore in Super Bowl 46, mark it down in permanent ink. OK, this is my pick mainly because I can't find as many reasons to eliminate these two as I can for the NFL's other 30 teams, so you might consider this backward thinking.

Washington Redskins to start quarterback Rex Grossman against New York Giants - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN
''I've got a lot of faith in both of them. It was very competitive all the way through,'' Shanahan said. ''I thought Rex won by an edge.''

I can find more reasons to eliminate the Eagles and Ravens vs teams like the Steelers and Packers

Both the Steelers and Packers have shitty offensive lines

It’s like a requisite in order to be a serious contender.

Defensively, the Steelers are strong up front, but weaker on the corners and incredibly strong at safety. The Packers are a relatively one-dimensional offense and have a defense with great corners, a perfectly average duo of safeties, a couple good linebackers, and a good nose tackle.

The Eagles have a shitty offensive line, a top-5 run game, a top-8 passing game, the most talented single unit in the NFL in their corners, a great defensive line, a perfectly average duo of safeties, and a good linebacker along with a completely untested rookie (ew).

Should be fun to watch it unfold.

You're right with the Offensive lines

but they still get it done. Obviously… the Steelers are playoffs mainstays the past decade, and have won it all with that shitty offensive line. The Packers won the SB last year, and are definitely the favorites to at least win the NFC North, if not the NFC.

Basically until someone knocks them off their pedestal they have to be considered the favorites… at least better than the Eagles and Ravens.

Oh, by the way, the Ravens haven’t beaten a Rothelisburger-led Steelers since 2006 and the Eagles haven’t reached a Super Bowl since ’04.

How about them Apples?

Good news? For whom? This is one very odd sentence.

a simple NFL win

it doesn’t have to be big or pretty, we don’t have to prove that they don’t belong on the field with us, we just have to win

Really? What, how? I gotta check this out.

by VRFC8 on Sep 6, 2011 10:24 AM EDT up reply actions

well apparently since our LB

are our weakest point, they see that as a field day for SJAX

by sandiegoeaglesfan on Sep 6, 2011 10:32 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

LB was hardly a wrecking crew the last time these teams played.

And the Rams got run out of the building. Until they get some receivers who can pose any kind of threat, teams are going to stack the box and dare Bradford to beat them. If anything, the Eagles are the worst team for the Rams to face no matter what the LBs do because the Eagles’ CBs can easily go one-on-one with the Rams’ WRs and let the safeties concentrate on beating up Bradford and Jackson.

by Tracer Bullet on Sep 6, 2011 11:01 AM EDT up reply actions

I always think it’s funny how people see LB vs RB as a “matchup.” It’s really not. LBs have lots of responsibilities. Really, if you wanted to talk about “matchups” for a RB, you have to take into account the entire front 7. Fact s that even average to below average LBs will have a field day against any RB if their defensive line plugs holes and eats up blocks.

vegas only having the eagles laying 4.5. hardly a blowout… not even a bit curious?

by Bleediots on Sep 6, 2011 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions

So we are favored by more than a FG on the road

Id say that is an Eagles line considering the home team usually gets 7 pts in their favor.

by VRFC8 on Sep 6, 2011 10:36 AM EDT up reply actions

i’m sorry i think that logic is dumb. being at home does matter, but it also depends on the team. the opponent. the schemes. who’s hot and who’s not. all kinds of stuff.

by Bleediots on Sep 6, 2011 11:51 AM EDT up reply actions

Trends wise it doesn't

Being at home is a big deal.

If you subscribe to the vegas idea that the home team gets 3 points, the line is telling you that the Eagles are a TD favorite. It’s a big line for the Eagles.

no but i don’t subscribe to that… that’s what i’m saying. not too many people that gamble on football (that i’ve met) bother to use that method very often…

SI did a study of all games in all sports and found that being at home does in fact give you an advantage.

i guess what i’m trying to stress is, through my experience playing football games, it seems like vegas is trying to coax you into taking the eagles.
