Eagles Claim OG Kyle DeVan, Release DT Cedric Thornton

After the Eagles finished their roster cuts last night, they were left with only nine offensive linemen on the active roster. Now, they'll have an even ten. The team has just announced that they have claimed former Colts right guard Kyle DeVan off of waivers. To make room for him, the Eagles released undrafted rookie Cedric Thornton.

Meant as a depth signing, the 26 year old DeVan brings 21 games' worth of starting experience to the offensive line. He and Howard Mudd were together in Indianapolis during the 2009 season, so DeVan's familiarity with Mudd's schemes will certainly help.

Bummer for Cedric but we needed this

Vandervelde as the sole guard backup would be tough. I think this solidifies that Todd stays at RT for the year. I was hoping we’d IR Marsh or Lindley instead but I can deal. Thornton will get picked up

Bummer for Eagles and Cedric

The FO kept Jackson, he plays OG as well, and everything is pointing to Justice’s return to the RT spot, freeing Todd to return to the LG spot (Todd assures himself a probowl bonus as opposed to the RT raise he got).

As for the CedTt, we’re gonna miss his play on the passing downs. That boy can deff get after it on 3rd and longs. Why not release Laws and his veteran guaranteed contract and sign Ced to a cheaper pricetag??

Fly Eagles Fly and watch the cowgirls cry.

The Steelers game. He had a very good game stuffing the run and generating a bit of a push up the middle. He is a big run stuffer who is more athletic than he might seem. I thought he could’ve been drafted as early as the 5th round. He is a very good player, sort of similar to Antonio Dixon.

I'm not blaming you

I’m just saying there’s a decent amount of evidence that points to you fighting with people because you enjoy being on the less popular side of a subject.

Trying to make you aware of a personality trait isn’t a condemnation, it’s merely an observation. Perhaps think twice before getting into a debate with someone when yours is clearly the minority viewpoint. Of course, you might be wired to enjoy such a situation – then just make the best of it. Bring facts to the discussion, and you might find yourself on the right and in the know more often than the majority.

Lord knows the general populace thinks plenty of stupid things, so it’s not bad to be opposed to many of their viewpoints. However, you tend to argue with well-informed members of our community over certain things that range to making very little sense (T.O.), to outright personal opinion without any real context to back it up (Asante will be traded! I FEEL IT). That hinders your credibility when you bring up more relevant opposing viewpoints.

by cwel87 on Sep 4, 2011 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

You seem to

not be able to let go of my so-called “personality traits” and want to change me, it’s unfortunate. There is no fighting involved at all, it’s all in good fun, you seem to want to categorize me in this box without even knowing me, I’m not sure what your deal is, but you’re really stuck on me, you need to worry about that problem rather than my what I think about TO or Asante. It’s simple, I admire TO as a football player and wouldn’t mind him being on the roster at this point in his career and Asante can still be gone, we already have 2 starting caliber cb’s, the Eagles were open to trading him but they just couldn’t find anyone willing to pay the price they wanted for him. Asante and his “big-playmaking abilities”. Does that clarify anything for you, or do we need to continue to go through this in each thread ?? Let me know. But I’m sure you’ll get a few ppl to turn your comment green and that’ll justify your point of view in your eyes, more power to you. You seem to be showing your immaturity by continuing this attack at me in so many threads, you really need to grow up.

Any news on Hanson, Hargrove, or Landri?

Curious if they got picked up on waivers or if they hit the market as regular free agents. I read something about teams waiting until the day before the 1st game to sign Vets, is that when these 3 will be picked up? Also, I’m guessing if Hanson didn’t get picked up on waivers then the Eagles got stuck with some dead money from his salary?

It means that you think the rules were misinterpreted and it had a negative affect on your team.

It was because the Pence hit that the fan interfered with was ruled a double, and therefore couldn’t be reviewed because only home runs can be reviewed. The only reason the Pence hit was reviewed was because Mckeon came out and argued the call, saying it was fan interference. It was changed to fan interference and ruled an out. Charlie was pissed because a ball can’t be reviewed for fan interference. It can only be reviewed to see if it was a home run or not. There’s no way that Mckeon was arguing that the ball was a home run, therefore he must have been arguing that it was interference. That’s why the Phillies protested the game. It should be ruled in favor of the Phillies.

The Jruth shall be told.
