FanPost

Looking Ahead

I've been a long time reader of Bleeding Green Nation. Here is my first post, tell me what you guy's think.

Yesterday was a tough loss to swallow for the Eagles. While I am still one of the fans that is sticking up for Matthews, I, too, am beginning to worry that time may not heal our wounds. We may simply not have the players to solve our holes. So, as I always like to do after a tough loss, I'd like to look ahead. Not as in, "OUR SEASON'S OVER. 1-15. DOWN THE DRAIN. OUR ONLY HOPE IS NEXT YEAR." Of course not. I still have high hopes for this year. We're only 3 games in. While I, admittedly, am becoming worried, keep in mind we have young LB's, with a new defensive coordinator, and many new players that we signed, all without much of an offseason to practice together.

That said, it's always nice to look at the next year's draft and see what options we should be considering. A lexury we will have is that we will have a few extremely major holes, and then almost everywhere else we'll be very deep. If our first 3 or so picks aren't offensive linemen or linebackers, I'll probably be pretty disappointed.

So my thinking for creating this fanpost is that it could be a place where we come to discuss thoughts on who we should be looking at to draft next year. I know it's very early, but I am one of those guys who loves to talk about the draft, no matter how distant it is in the future. It's always nice to think about who could become the future of this team. Unfortunatly, I'm not that informed about college football players. I watch the games on Sundays, but I don't know much about individuals and who we should be looking at. Recently here at BGN, there has been alot of talk about if we should draft Vontaze Burflict or Manti Te'o, given the opportunity. I am on the Burflict side, as I believe that his necessary time to develop as a LB is no reason to not draft him; I'd rather have the more talented linebacker as the centerpiece of our defense for the next decade (hopefully).

Unfortunatly, as I said, I don't know a ton about either one. Most of my research comes from Youtube. That is why I am posting this. We can use this to share ideas about college players that we should be looking at, and try to settle disputes about players like Burflict vs. Te'o. One of the best parts about BGN is that it is made up of alot of people outside of the Philly area. We could get 'scouting reports' on specific players around the country that some of us don't get the opportunity to watch on TV.

So essentially this post is about looking forward to next year's draft. I'm not knowledgeable enough in regard to college football to write a long post about who I think we should draft (although I'm a big fan of Burflict), so I'm leaving it up to you guys to discuss your thoughts here.

I figure to get things started, we could discuss Burflict vs. Te'o or really any other LB to consider if we had the opportunity to draft any one of them that we wanted. If you want, feel free to discuss offensive linemen we should look at, or any other players or positions of need.

I'm trying not to give up on one LB's yet, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't crossing my fingers to get Burflict.
