Eagles Final Roster Cuts Tracker
The Eagles must slim their roster down to 53 players by 6:00 p.m. this Saturday, so there are many difficult decisions on the horizon for the front office.
BGN will be updating our annual roster cuts tracker as the information comes in, so make sure to check back often. Here are the players who've gotten the axe so far:
| Player | Pos. | Source |
| Rashad Jeanty | LB | Adam Caplan |
| Jamar Wall | S | Eagles |
| Rod Harper | WR | Eagles |
| Chris Wilson | DE | Eagles |
| A.Q. Shipley | C | Eagles |
| Cornelius Ingram | TE | Eagles |
| Stanley Havili | FB | Eagles |
| Dallas Reynolds | C | Eagles |
| Graig Cooper | HB | Eagles |
| Chad Hall | WR | Adam Caplan |
| Sinorice Moss | WR | Pro Football Talk |
| Anthony Hargrove | DT | Jeff McLane |
| Derek Landri | DT | Jeff McLane |
| Mike McGlynn | C | Jeff McLane |
| Austin Howard | OT | Geoff Mosher |
| Donald Lee | TE | Jeff McLane |
| Joselio Hanson | CB | Adam Caplan |
| Daniel Te'o-Nesheim | DE | Reuben Frank |
| Eldra Buckley | RB | Eagles |
| Marlin Jackson | S | Eagles |
| Ryan Harris | OT | Eagles |
| Johnnie Lee Higgins | WR | Eagles |
| Greg Lloyd | LB | Eagles |
| Reggie Wells | OL | Eagles |
| Fenuki Tupou | OT | Eagles |
| Jamar Adams | S | Eagles |
In addition, OT Jose Acuna has been placed on the Reserve/Left Squad list.
[Update by JasonB, 09/02/11 6:50 PM EDT ] Brandon Graham and Winston Justice have been placed on the PUP list and will be unavailable for the first six weeks of the season.
Notes and thoughts after the jump...
- Chad Hall just barely makes the cut for practice squad eligibility, so there's a chance that he could remain in an Eagles uniform this year.
- The Anthony Hargrove and Derek Landri cuts come as a bit of a shock, but rumor has it that the Eagles could be looking to bring them back after week 1 to avoid paying them any guaranteed money. It's a risky maneuver, for sure, but apparently the team is satisfied with Antonio Dixon, Trevor Laws and (possibly) Cedric Thornton as their backup DTs.
- According to ESPN's Andrew Brandt, Winston Justice has solidified his spot on the team by agreeing to take a pay cut.
- Jeff McLane has heard that Juqua Parker has survived the cuts.
- Jonathan Tamari is reporting that Colt Anderson will also make the final roster.
- Les Bowen has confirmed that Jamaal Jackson will be sticking around.
- Adam Caplan reported on Eagles Live that UDFA Cedric Thornton will make the 53 man roster.

I can’t for the life of me figure out why one would have such animus towards a player who has never committed a crime or badmouthed anyone publicly and whose only crime was that he may have been picked too high.
But then again, you’re not exactly the most rational person on the board either
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Hott Fuzz = the best Pegg movie
"I hate listening to people's dreams. It is like flipping through a stack of photographs. If I'm not in any of them and nobody is having sex, I just don't care. "
For Pegg comedy gold you should also check out the sitcom 'Spaced'
This is the show that made him famous, and deservedly so
Spaced was awesome. Bill Bailey’s scenes in the comic store are great.

Philip Hunt for me. He is explosive
by Sean of the dead on Sep 2, 2011 5:54 PM EDT reply actions
Agreed
In this league, you can’t have too many pass rushers. Nothing worse than getting beat down by a starter, only to have to face a legitimate backup with fresh legs.
Reporter: "What have you done for T.O., besides getting him suspended?" Drew Rosenhaus: "Next question."
I think DTO and Colt Anderson and Landri/Hargrove are the big questions. And Parker/Hanson on the trade block. Hunt is safer now than all of those (let’s hope).
I haven’t heard much about him…is he still in the running?
I also think we should start a new award and name it after Cornelius Ingram. After the number of times the Eagles cut him, he deserves something. It can be given to the guy that had no shot of making the team, but because of his freakishly athletic build, or his former success, becomes the darling of the fans.
This year I’d give it to DeAndre Brown, although Cornelius should probably win since it’s named after him.
My vote would go to DeAndre Brown

Not sure if anyone really qualified
Id have to look up the requirements but I believe. Candidates had to have been with team for at least two years, play a skill position, not contributed at all in regular season, an d stood out in preseason.
by Sean of the dead on Sep 2, 2011 6:00 PM EDT up reply actions
So every year we try to highlight the guy who arrived on the team with little expectations that went on to become the darling of training camp. There is some loose criteria… The player has to be young, he can’t have been a first or second pick, & he really can’t have ever done anything in the NFL. Previous winners include Lorenzo Booker, Hank Baskett, & Brandon Gibson.
I haven't died. Right now I'm drinking a beer and eating fried chicken. What were you expecting, a funeral?- Yao Ming
I'm not sure it HAS to be a skill position player
My vote goes to, my man, Canada’s finest:
Phil Hunt
The first Drauschak.

Kelce fits the criteria, doesn't he?
Even though I never read Jimmy’s minute-by-minute and play-by-play training camp reports, I’d think someone we never heard of winning the starting job should qualify.
My vote is for Dion Lewis…although I know some people were pretty high on him, so that might disqualify him.
I haven't died. Right now I'm drinking a beer and eating fried chicken. What were you expecting, a funeral?- Yao Ming
mine would be, too
but I’m with you, maybe expectations were high coming in for him
"EFF YOU, WE'RE WINNING ANYWAY!!!!!!" (Bye, Dawk)
DeAndre Brown would be my vote
Even though he’s no longer on the team.
No one else stood out or garnered as much attention, really.

It's not returning any Google hits
no matter how I phrase it.
I doubt he would be cut. If he can’t be dealt, they might hang on to him & try to make a deal after his salary is Week 1 guaranteed. I agree he might be cut for that exact reason, but it’s also hard to find cornerbacks in this league, I wonder if the Eagles would want to give a serviceable/good away for free.

That they will resign Havili to practice squad and I hope that they will do the same with Greg Cooper. That guy has potential. And I feel sorry for Ingram, but it’s understandable
some team will give Havili a flyer. He was a really talented pass-catcher out of USC. I think the Saints/Colts might give him a sniff.

I doubt it. Most teams already have their 53 man roster set. He will clear waivers and likely end up on our practice squad, or someone else’s.
by captain nodar on Sep 2, 2011 6:19 PM EDT up reply actions
You're kidding
Cooper has zero potential. Nothing about him looks like an NFL-caliber RB.
But I agree that Havili will probably end up on the PS.
I disagree.
Cooper played well as a N-S runner and also showed some shiftyness and the ability to catch as well. He could be a good player to go to the practice squad and be the 3rd back when Ronnie Brown leaves.
Jason Peters: Heart of a Lion, Face of a Chipmunk.
Eli Manning has the personality of a baked potato.
Cooper
played fairly well in the preseason. He did show some flashes. I’ll give him that. But it’s preseason. A lot of RBs show flashes. It’s the ones that do it consistently for four games that have a very good chance at making it. Cooper is stick thin. Kind of reminds me of Taiwan Jones of the Raiders, without the speed or the overall football talent. The other problem is he didn’t stick out on ST’s whatsoever. If he’s going to be the 3rd RB next year, he better improve in that area ten-fold.
Clearly, we don’t have much to go off of to judge Cooper. He didn’t get a ton of reps until the 4th game. So he could surprise me next year. But he just did not pass my “eye-test.”
He reminds me a lot of our full back last year. We all thought he had great play making ability, yet he got no snaps in preseason, then we just released him at the end.. never to be seen again. :[ (I really can’t remember his name… ugh.. oh well, maybe someone else remembers) I hope I’m wrong, but the same will happen to Havili.
Marcus Malei or something to that tone. I think he got plucked by saints last year if I remember correctly.

Yeah, that’s him. Everyone got excited when we got him from Arizona, but he never got any snaps to even prove himself, that I remember.
Yeah, he’s another.. didn’t get much of an opportunity, maybe a few snaps in 4th quarter and 1 kick return? I think RB’s all have potential.. just depends on if you give them opportunity or not.. so I think Andy evaluates a lot of them on pass protection.. if they can’t pass protect in practice then he doesn’t waste time on them in preseason?
No running back. and they tried him at Fullback for a little.

Parker
Anyone hear Adam Caplan trying to make fun of all the people asking for Parker to be traded? He opens up with something like “I don’t understand why fans think Parker’s not set as a starting DE on this team” then goes on within the next 5 minutes to say he’s 33 years old, hasn’t seen any snaps, injuared, and was cut by Washburn in Tennesse before, etc. pretty funny. I don’t think he makes the final roster… but I’m losing hope on a trade, better get to it Howie! There should be some last minute drama for at least 1 trade before the deadline.
Yeah...
theyre cutting it real close when it come to re-signing DeSean. Maybe they are just toying with him for not showing up to camp on time. But if he isnt signed before kickoff,he will be pissed and take his position less serious.

Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

Damn Havilii...
The Eagles HATE cutting draft picks. You must’ve REALLY stunk shit up.
I-C-Y-U-H8-ME
Erm, the Eagles almost always cut some of their 5th, 6th, and 7th rounders. They usually bring a ton of them to camp and keep only the couple who really look good in the preseason (i.e. Coleman).
Hmmmm...really?
Last year, one cut. Charles Scott.
Year before that? One cut. Paul Fanaika
No one the year before that.
He’s basically in the second round of cuts at this point. In other words, in a regular offseason, he might not have made it out of camp. And they certainly aren’t interested in bringing him back to the PS or IRing him like they have done with so many others they have cut.
I-C-Y-U-H8-ME
No, Rhayes is correct. Scott was traded to Arizona for Jorrick Calvin. The Cards cut him, and I have no idea what happened to him after that.
The Cards cut him

Yes, but they bring in so many that they have to cut a few eventually.
That said, with guys like Fokou, Chaney, and Coleman, they’ve made bank on their late picks these last couple years. The strategy of stockpiling picks seems to be paying off for them more now than it used to.
So? you said they never keep 5th, 6th or 7th rounders.

To be fair he said
the Eagles almost always cut some of their 5th, 6th, and 7th rounders.
(My emphasis)
They kind of have to cut at least one or two every year given how many many they pick these days
Yes,
for all the early round busts (DTN, Lindley, Justice, Bradley, MCDOUGLE, etc) they get players in rounds 5-7. That’s all well and good, but still something is majorly wrong with coaching/management to have this much trouble with premium picks.

they rack up a bunch of picks knowing some guys won’t work out, but this way they better their chances. When they’re picking 10-13 guys/year, they know they can’t keep everyone

I think he is...
…the perfect player for Washburn. With the depth at DE, he won’t have to be rushed back. With a year and a half to rehab, next year could be the year he lives up to the draft stock.
I-C-Y-U-H8-ME
agree completely
he is only in his second year and suffered a knee injury. he will be back after week 6 and will slowly work his way into the roster. By the last 3 weeks or so, i can see him making a pretty good impact as well as him having a very good playoffs. Come next year, we will be salivating at the thought of him, Cole, Babin, and one to be named in a rotational role.

Dunlap is not 'good' - as in, starter material
But he’s a solid backup for an NFL team. He catches a lot of flak for that Raiders game (much like Justice and his Osi game), but he’s better than that.
In fact, the ‘Bustice’ and ‘Queen’ nicknames are ones we can almost entirely base off one incredibly poor performance early in their careers.
I’ll always regret the day we took him over JPP. I still have no idea what in God’s name they were thinking. I don’t think he’ll ever come close to anything JPP does.

Yes, and it would also dilute the rivalries
Football wouldn’t be football if we don’t get to play the Cowboys and Giants twice a year.
Yea I think most of Florida is just really laid back and not as intense as the Northeast. Its hard to have an attitude when its 70 in the winter and sunny. Not to much to be pissed about. I just don’t understand why college sports translate and pro don’t. It might have something to do with trailer parks and inbreeding.

Another stupid "expert" comment I heard recently.
I saw someone write that Ronnie will be a “perfect fit in Philly because McCoy is an outside runner and Brown will add a North-South dimension.”
WTF!! Has anyone watched any Eagles games lately? McCoy practically never takes it outside anymore… even when there’s nothing up the middle. It’s as if he’s trying specifically to eliminate that “outside runner” label…. kindof like when McNabb stopped running frequently to avoid that “running quarterback” label.
I love McCoy but I’m just saying I hate writers who will always stick to their preconceived opinions about certain players and never let them go, even when things change. I think I heard McCoy was statistically one of the NFL’s best running inside and on short yardage last year.
What do you guys think? Was the McCoy of 2010 really an outside runner?
Like Vick being injury prone and a second tier quarterback?
I think you should stop watching ESPN… it isn’t credible nor NFL Live.
Never call a Phillies, Eagles, Flyers or Sixers fans, a band-wagoner. It is disrespectful. We have suffered agony through the years. Philadelphians should be jovial for their teams' success.
Yeah it's a waste of time...
The problem is the offseason is so long and the 6 days between games goes so slow, that fans are forced to settle for crap like that in between.
“Vick only played one 16-game season so he’s injury prone.” Nevermind that played three 15 game seasons! (and he probably rested week 17 of 2004.) Nevermind that most NFL QB’s in a typical season do not manage to start all 16 games (I think only 12 QB’s did last year). And probably even fewer started and finished all the games. .
Vick got injured once last year on a scramble… so his “style of play” is a problem. Most of the time he’s running away from sacks that get other QB’s injured all the time. Guess what… Kolb got injured in his first half as a starter, on a SACK that VICK would have outran.
But yea, even if our swiss cheese O-line gets Vick knocked out this season, it will be Vick’s fault because he’s “injury prone”. He’ll take far more abuse behind the line of scrimmage .than in front of it.

Probably could not get anything in trades
With Patterson a potential risk and Dixon and Laws already injured I figured Eagles would go with 5 DTs. Maybe Eagles are keeping TeO-Nesheim and Hunt? Or could be clearing spots for a pickup?
Probably No Carolina Trades
since there were worst team last season. I thought that means they get first choice on any waived players. So there is little incentive for them to make a trade. Just force the team to make their cuts.
Landri and Hargrove gone
Wow! Would have thought one of them makes the team. That means Laws must still be here. Maybe Parker, too.

Patterson, Jenkins, Dixon, Laws are our 4 DTs.

this
Lee was part of the “dream team” signings where it was just 1 after another, but we are set at tight end.. never really thought they would keep him unless something crazy was going down (like a Celek trade). Howie has shown a ton of loyalty to his draft picks… with Harbour and Teo getting very little playing time, but still staying on the roster (so far).
Cause they already have Jackson Maclin Smith Avant Cooper so no reason to keep Hall or Moss.
Surprised with Lee, i thought he played decent vs the Jets.
Yea but you dont keep a blocking TE on a passing first team. As said futhere down, he makes so much sense on a Giants team.
by Anders Jensen on Sep 3, 2011 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions
Lee will be picked up by a team for sure. He could potential sign with the Giants as he is a good blocking TE there can catch.
Lee to the Giants makes too much sense. Brandon Tate to the Cowboys could be another interesting proposal (I said Chad Hall earlier, but Tate would be a great fit.)

He’s 33 year’s old… with Teo and Hunt showing potential, I don’t see how or why you keep Parker at all, especially at the cost of a young DE’s spot.
Parker was great up until mid season, he wore down fast. He is still valuable, just not as much injured. Not sure what we do here.

Just cuz other teams suck doesn’t make him elite… that’s like saying Chad Hall is an elite practice squad wide receiver.
So Tom Brady is not an elite QB, just other teams defenses there is not elite?
by Anders Jensen on Sep 3, 2011 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions
I proved that Hanson was elite corner last year and you counter by saying he is not elite because other teams sucks. Then nobody is elite, other teams just suck.
by Anders Jensen on Sep 3, 2011 5:01 PM EDT up reply actions
BS
It means that the teams that Hanson only played average against teams that didn’t suck. If he pwned them, then he would be elite
Tell me what is not elite about Hansons numbers? He was no. 1 in YAC and 2 in yards/pass.
by Anders Jensen on Sep 3, 2011 5:04 PM EDT up reply actions
Slot recieivers tend to run short to intermediate routes, hence have less time to get seperation and are less likely to get beat, hence the lower YAC and yards per pass.
Ty my point, he was elite at what he did, not compared to CBs like Samuel, Nnamdi and Revis
by Anders Jensen on Sep 3, 2011 5:14 PM EDT up reply actions
But then with the exception of Wes Welker
How many stud WR’s play in the slot?
You don’t see Andre Johnson lining up in the slow?
My point is, it is easy for a decent CB to look good or even ‘elite’ against a marginal starting WR (as most teams only start 2 WR’s).
Its like Kevin Curtis putting up 200 yards receiving against the Lions. As the CB lined up against him was a poor player, it does not make Curtis an elite WR.
Consider how “crap” you claim slot recievers are, he was still the best in NFL to cover em.

Consider how "crap" you claim slot recievers are, he was still the best in NFL to cover em.
If so why was he cut for DRC?
Hanson was cutted because of his insane contract and the FO likes the 4 young CB we have behind Samuel and Nnamdi
by Anders Jensen on Sep 3, 2011 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions
Still that being said, there is no reason why his contract could not have been renogotiated. Justice did it to stay on the team. And at the end of the day Hanson knows that he may not have a better chance of winning a Superbowl.
what makes u think he wanted to renegotiate his contract. Your commming to that conclusion in your own head
Hanson knows that he may not have a better chance of winning a Superbowl.
Maybe for this reason he would want to renegotiate his contract.
There is no guarantee he will ever be on a play-off teams roster again, hence if he had any sense he would take a pay cut to keep a job and a chance at earning a ring.
Your quote does’nt mean much unless that is from him or his agent. What if the Eagles just don’t want him and don’t want to redo his deal they are plenty deep at corner
my point is obvious. You said
there is no reason why his contract could not have been renogotiated
and I just gave you the possible reasons this is not rocket science

Your quote does’nt mean much unless that is from him or his agent. What if the Eagles just don’t want him and don’t want to redo his deal they are plenty deep at corner
From what I have seen posted around here teams interested in Hanson made it clear that they were only interested in a trade if the contract was less. With that in mind I assume that the Eagles would’ve been keen to renegotiate.
For some reason they didn’t, either a case of Hanson not wanting a pay cut (tbh he would get that anyway) or they ran out of time to negotiate. At the end of the day he gets to pick his team now.
No, he was the only Nickel CB on that list,
he was targeted more than any other CB covering the Slot guy.

You didn’t prove anything, you compared a slot CB’s limited snaps to CB’s defending the best wide receivers in the game. Then you called the performance elite. Your logic is very flawed.
Moving on to other topics, beat this one to death.
All I said what that he was Elite at covering slot recievers. If it is so easy to cover slot recievers, how come guys like Wes Welker and Steve Smith avg 100 catchs a year and a guy like Avant is always open on 3rd down.

the dude’s barely capable in the Slot.. Look at the stats and you’ll see he’s the ONLY nickel CB who was targeted enough to make the list, that’s not what makes him the best, that means his ass was targeted because he sucks.

Revis is an elite CB as he can shut down any WR in any part of the field
An elite nickel corner would imply that you can only stop the 3rd choice WR, but not the 1st and 2nd.
But dosnt that still make him an elite nickle cb?

I can follow on that. But just as I consider slot receivers a special part of an offense, I consider a nickel CB a special part of the defense.
by Anders Jensen on Sep 3, 2011 5:34 PM EDT up reply actions
Simple
A QB will not throw the ball to a WR when they are not open or are heavily covered as they are not the best option (hence why Nnamdi, Revis & Asante Samuel are not targeted as much as the average starting CB). If he is targeted a lot it means that the WR he is covering is open often.

What it means is that he was the only Nickel Cornerback who QB’s threw at enough to make the list of CB’s on the list this guy is using to try and claim Hanson’s Elite…
Meaning Hanson’s literally the only guy who covers a Slot WR 95% of the time to make the list.

Its not so much a disagreement, more that I believe that you overrate Joselio Hanson something awful and justify this with nonsense!
That is what I don’t understand! :)
I just said he is an elite nickle CB, but fully understand why he was cut and agree he had to be cut because I rather have the 6 other CBs on the roster.

Hence you don’t really care about their ability in the Nickel, where your darling Hanson is the best in the NFL

Why? because I see things from another perspective?
by Anders Jensen on Sep 3, 2011 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Sorry wrong wording on my part. What I meant is that DRC can be on okay nickle CB, but he is here (together with 3 behind him) for there potential to playoutside. Something Hanson could not do.
by Anders Jensen on Sep 3, 2011 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions
But then the point me and wild_eagle are making is that there is no such thing as an Elite CB, otherwise Hanson would not have lost his slot to DRC, who has proven a good starter on the outside.
If it is the case that a good starter on the outside can automatically come in and become the slot CB over the “Elite” Nickel CB still there, it implies that all decent starting CB’s on the outside are Elite Nickel CB’s.
Now the definition of elite when describing a player in the NFL is when a player is in the top 5-10 of players at his position.
You cannot argue that Hanson is elite as a Nickel Corner, simply as you have you have admitted that a CB playing on the outside can automatically be better in the slot than Hanson.
I actully belive that DRC will be a downgrade over Hanson in the slot, but you dont pay a slot CB 2 mill a year

If the argument is Hanson is a good slot guy but a terrible outside guy and he gave up no TD’s in the slot and 5 TD’s on the outside, I would say that, yes, the distinction matters.
Let the beasting begin.

I wish the Roster would update at PE.com. Ummm….. I think all of these are left:
Need to cut WR: Higgins
Need to cut OL: Tupou, Dunlap, Harris, Wells
Need to cut RB: Buckley
Need to cut SS: Adams
Need to cut LB: Lloyd
Need to cut DL: Parker, Teo, Hunt
That’s 11… ouch. Want to save Teo, Hunt, Harris, and Wells
I can’t see Wells & Buckley staying.
Tough choice at DE though. I have a feeling Parker might be gone in favour of getting younger
and even if he makes the team…gone after week 6 when Graham comes off the PUP…which is ideal since Parker is only good the first half of every season anyway
19 and counting...
ha, good point.. still rather see him cut now and keep teo/hunt for speed rushers. we need the help vs. running QB’s. Hunt was a beast chasing down QB’s when they left the pocket.
I still see Parker struggling to chase that Vikings QB (name eludes me) last season. That was embarressing!
Not as much as it pissed me off
I was in my fantasy championship, down by 30 with Vick and DeSean….
"Get 'Em"
I don’t think he has really had a chance to showcase what he can do. I think he stays at least this season. Unless he is Bryan Smith 2.0
but he's poised for a breakout year!

He’s making this team. He’s a guy Washburn seems to like, he’s young, and Reid liked him enough to draft him higher than he should’ve gone. I’d be shocked if he was released.

Funny watching some of these cuts. Just shows how much the Eagles sucked at drafting the past few years with their trade down for more less quaility picks.
Laws Djax & Dunlap are all thats left from the 08 class. Maclin Shady & I guess you can say Peters since he was a trade via the draft are all thats left from 09. So thats 6 players out of 22 picks I believe.
With Laws on the verge of being cut/traded & Dunlap just not being good….ugly draft strategy for the birds
That's what I've thinkin
Like a lot of these guys who people were saying could be something good or something special and all that…I went back thru the years and looked and a lot of guys we drafted aren’t with the team anymore.
"truTV is like BET for white folks." - Chuck
cause they were just bad pics when taken ( reaches ) most the time. Look at the 3rd rounders the past few years…could even say Allen & Lindley were not great picks….Allen lost his starting job & lindley may be cut…granted those two pics happened cause of of their choice to go after Graham instead of Earl Thomas or Pouncey.
They get alot of picks but what is done with them really makes you shake your head.
compare it to every other team…people tend to focus on their mistakes as if it doesn’t happen with other good teams around the NFL…the 2 NE Brandon’s would disagree
19 and counting...
dont care about other teams…the org was trying to sell this team as a super bowl contender the past few seasons..banking on those guys they drafted..while more then half arent even on the team anymore
do i expect every pick to be a pro bowler? No but you should at least be getting players that fit a plan & are actually good.
Allen and Graham were clearly terrible picks since the FO should have known they were going to injure their knees…if Earl Thomas tears his achilles this season, does that make Nate Allen a better player?
19 and counting...
I won't go of and say Graham's a bust
But I’m not a fan of drafting DEs in the first round anyways. The best DEs from that class was drafted in the 2nd round (Dunlap and Houston)

Ummm...
I’m sorry but we actually draft really well and have for a while. So shut the fuck up dumbass.

I’m happy they don’t let their pride get in the way of admitting a mistake and moving on….good to see
19 and counting...
about time…just look at the past 3 drafts and look at all those “mistakes”…thats alot of pride swallowing lmao
in some ways, because when i watched these drafts and bitched about some of the players they took ( as in why him, why that high etc ) i got bashed by some cause they were eagle homers and thought they could do no wrong.
So yes I am enjoying seeing some of these reaches and busts getting cut.
What I mean is…both here and at TGP you are the most negative commenter I’ve seen. You celebrate failure every chance you get….quite remarkably I must say.
19 and counting...
The fact that we have had so many draft picks gave us this years cap freedom
We had so many rookies drafted from players whom had large cap contracts (Brown, McNabb, Westbrook etc). They were all signed to the cheapest contracts possible. At the end of the day if they don’t work out, bit deal we had the money to splash. If they do, it means we get good players on cheap contracts (ie Djax). A good situation to be at.
Well in all fairness it is not through a lack of trying, they did bring in the greatest O-Line coach of all time, and draft 3 Rookie linemen, and sign Ryan Harris & Evan Mathis. You can’t say they ignored the position.
Having 3 good LB’s in a 4-3 defense is not as crucial as a few years ago as the league moves more and more towards favouring passing. Seeing as Green Bay & New Orleans bring a lot of offensive looks using 3+ WR’s, this forces a lot of Nickel situations, hence less LB’s are on the field anyhow.
I am not saying I wouldn’t prefer a stud 3 down MLB, but I do not see it as a worry!
Other than DTN, who area you referring to?
So yes I am enjoying seeing some of these reaches and busts getting cut.
"EFF YOU, WE'RE WINNING ANYWAY!!!!!!" (Bye, Dawk)
08 and 09 drafts i think were 22 picks…only 5 of those picks are on the team…with Laws & Dunlap being 2 of them. Didnt get to looking at the 10 draft yet and seeing whose left.
Yeah, I only included the last 2 years because we had a different GM prior to that. I think the last 2 years have included a TON of potential and very few misses. Lot’s of pride there for Howie.. not much to swallow. :]
That’s fine, but that’s completely different from your first comment, lol. Howie’s done a good job.. I wouldn’t make it personal by telling him to swallow his pride, that’s what I was replying to.
All drafts are hit and miss. Look at any team and show me a draft from 3 years ago where more than 50% of the draftees are still on the roster.
In all fairness
Most other years he would’ve made the roster. But by the time you had Cole, Babin, Tapp, Hunt & Parker it was all due to numbers. Going 3 deep a both DE positions when looking to keep a lot of DB’s was not an option I guess.
He is eligible for PS though.
there was no reason to draft him in the first place

Really? We were trying to fortify our DE position as DE was the only good player. We added Tapp, Graham and Teo in the hope that one would work out.
you dont draft another DE after just trading up in the 1st for a DE when your need was S and OL to begin with…and like sportsfan said..especially that high..he was a reach
Sure, if you’re one dimensional and only build your team from the draft. We had hope in Marlin Jackson and other acquisitions. Hindsight is 20/20.
who had hope in Jackson? lol that was the typical eagles move of going after an injured player for cheap in hopes he plays well.
Sadly that’s becoming a signature move here.

I didn’t see sports00fan00’s post, I do agree about him being drafted to early.
In regards to being drafted at all, they had already drafted Nate Allen at S, and we believed that we were set at O-Line with Jamaal Jacksons fast recovery and MJG having Stacey Andrews totally healthy. DE was a big position of need for us last year.
See I think the eagles were in the minority with thinking they were set at OL last year. They were banking on Jackson coming back too early & the Andews situation was just a failure from the get go.
Safety, Center & G were needs in that draft imho. Dont think I was the only person scratching my head when they took Graham instead of Thomas or Pouncey
Personally, I was hoping for Iupati, Pouncey, or Thomas. Moving up for Graham didn’t make sense. The secondary and OL were the obvious areas of need.

OL was especially bad when you consider they inexplicably kept those two fat slobs around, Cole & MJG. Opposing LBs could probably distract them by waving Ho-hos at them.

According to Bowen they both have a chance to gain back the $$ if they are starters through performance… which neither of them are right now. So yeah, that’s a pay cut, lol. Justice won’t even see the field with Herremans at RT now and Parker will disappear into the trenches by mid-season.
I think Justice will be the swing tackle
Dunlap as the backup LT. I think Parker rotates around as a pressure guy or “fast ball”

As I said on twitter
Donnie Avery becomes the 3rd of the 6 WRs picked before DeSean in 2008 to be cut by their draft team.
For those who complain about Eagles drafting, the 1st, 2nd, and 4th WRs taken in 2008 were cut by orig. team.
From Les Bowen
Thorton likely 1st one to go if Eagles add waiver player or bring back Landri or Hargrove after week 1 -(vet salary no longer gtd)
Kind of makes sense now.
Trevor Laws: "Thank Giants for kicking to (Desean)."
Mike Vick: "Why would they kick to Desean?"
Matt Dodge: "Snap too high!"

So...
Assuming DeSean is only going to be returning punts in game-altering situations, who is our primary punt returner now? Lewis? We haven’t seen him return any punts in the preseason, have we?
could be DRC?
Trevor Laws: "Thank Giants for kicking to (Desean)."
Mike Vick: "Why would they kick to Desean?"

Heard Lewis is doing kicks
Don’t think they’ve said who does punts.
Seems strange since punt returns are now more valuable with the kickoff changes. Is it a sign they don’t expect the other teams to need to punt?
Probably Lewis, DRC,
or one of the 3 backend corners.
