other than the lack of replay, Robinson's hit, the hot and cold defense, and we lost.
First, I hated the gadget plays. I don't mind so much doing something early (like we did with that wildcat play that Vick scrambled for 8) to catch the D off guard and get a quick strike, but once our offense was rolling there's no reason to throw in a gadget play. The single play that drove me the most nuts was Kafka's first full drive, we're nearing midfield after a first down, and the Eagles do an end around with Desean Jackson that nets nothing. That play stalled that drive. Why oh why didn't we hand off to Lesean McCoy. We had a lead. We had the ball. We have Lesean. The worst that happens is 3 yard gain. 2nd and 7 do it again. Now you're in a manageable 3rd down for Kafka instead of the 3rd and 8 that end around left us in. I'm still fuming over that play call. Give the ball to McCOY!!!
2 more things I hated after the jump. Alrighty, I'll throw in some things I loved too.The third down play right before the 4th and 4. Kafka threw a quick pass that was supposed to be another WR screen play, but this time the WR is tackled for a loss. First, that play had simply been called too many times. Second, hadn't Kafka proven by that point that he could handle more than a 'highschool' throw? This is another play call I hated.
Lastly, I hated using a timeout before 4th and 4. I understand the desire to use one (young QB, big situation, etc.) but we just couldn't afford one at that point. We got the ball back. Add 40 seconds and we get a whole lot more than just a hail mary to try and win it.
I love Andy Reid. My respect is continuing to grow for the man (especially with the demise of McNabb), but poor game management and the refusal to stick with the run (even when the opposition is getting run over) drives me nuts.
There were lots of things that affected the game that were out of the Eagles control (luck, camera angles, officiating) but these three things I hated were things that could have, and should have, been done differently.
Real quick, some things I loved.
Dion Lewis getting beyond the 20 on some kick returns.
Vick's three step drops and throws were beautiful and just what he needs to take his game to the next level. Is there a next level beyond "Awesome"?
3 straight touchdowns after being down 21-10.
Nnamdi with a pick!
O-line and especially the D-line.
Maclin . . . until the drop.
