The time is now Mike

The Eagles are in a prime position to go all the way this year, but the question remains is Michael Vick the guy that can lead this team to the promised land. I would like to give my opinion after the jump.

There's no denying that Michael Vick is one of, if not the most electrifying player in the NFL today. Is an electrifying player enough to lead a talented team like the Eagles to the Superbowl? First off lets take a minute to look at some of the highlights of last season to refresh our memories of just how well he played last year.

Mike Vick Highlights 2010-2011 (via waytobeasty)

No one can deny that Michael Vick is a talented athlete. Last year I wrote a fanpost discussing wether or not Michael Vick would ever reach super star status again. Well with him being the 6th highest selling jersey, and even Nike resigning him, we can say that celebrity wise Vick is back on track. This is a good thing because it seems like the new Vick is fueled by the support of the fans. I, for one, fully support Michael Vick as our franchise QB, and believe he will surprise us this year. I don't have to throw out stats to tell any of you guys how much of an improved player Vick was last year. He stood in the pocket and made passes some of us thought he wasn't capable of. Towards the end of the year his play fell off a bit, but I don't think it was because of him regressing. Vick took a beating towards the end of the year, due to the play of the right side of the line, and also through faults of his own. Vick needs to know when to get rid of the ball, when to go down when he does scramble, and needs to work on blitz recognition. Really all three have the same thing in common: beating the blitz. Thankfully this camp has given Vick a lot of practice in beating the blitz. Vick sounds very confident in his ability to improve from last year in this department.

"Just getting comfortable with what we’re doing and seeing the field really well, understanding what we’re trying to do in our protection schemes, just focusing on how to beat the blitz," Vick said. "You know, we got blitzed a lot last year, and I just wanted to make sure I’m top of it this year so teams can’t get to me like they want to."

I'm glad that he's accepting the responsibility and taking the steps to erase those flaws. We all know that if Vick can become a more cerebral QB, the skies the limit.

As I stated earlier, the troubles last year weren't all on Vick, and I thank the front office for getting the players they did to improve the OL, as well as a top notch coach to teach them. If these guys can pull together and give Vick the time in the pocket he needs, good things will happen. Vick has to be able to trust these guys, and I think he should finally be able to. If these guys can keep Vick upright this offense will undoubtedly rise to new heights. The defense is being built to get the ball back in the offenses hands, and Vick and the offense are preparing to help this team finally hoist the Lombardi. The talent is definitely there this year..... lets bring one home guys!!!!!
