Ricky Sapp, Victor Abiamiri Both Quit The Eagles
With Jim Washburn as the new sheriff in town on the defensive line, we knew this year at Eagles camp wasn't going to be for the feint of heart. Apparently, two Eagles had just had enough. According to several reports, defensive ends Ricky Sapp and Victor Abiamiri have left the team.
Abiamiri was actually injured once again and was seen walking around on crutches and in a boot. The team refused to talk about the injury, but after working all summer to rehab from his previous injuries it had to be very frustrating to get hurt again. He was probably not long for the roster anyway, but it is sad to see a young guy's career turn out that way. [Note by JasonB, 08/04/11 2:02 PM EDT ] Geoff Mosher reports that Abiamiri tore his Achilles.
As for Ricky Sapp, the Eagles fifth round pick form last year, he just up and left. Apparently he did the same thing last year and has now been placed on the Reserved/Left Squad list. Geoff Mosher talked to a teammate who said that Sapp had been complaining of knee pain and was frustrated. Oh well.
The Eagles have no shortage of defensive ends and neither Sapp nor Abiamiri figured for a big role, if any this year. However, there is some real concern at defensive tackle. With Mike Patterson's situation and the trade of Brodrick Bunkley, the situation there is kind of thin right now. Antonio Dixon, Cullen Jenkins and Trevor Laws seem to be the only locks to make the team at DT. If Mike Patterson can go, then they're four deep and probably in good shape... but without knowing that, it's a situation to watch.

Kinda disappointed in Sapp
He seemed like one of those odd ball DE/LB guys who could be very disruptive. Not having torn up my knee like him I can’t relate to the pain, but it seems like a bit of a baby move to just leave.
They couldn’t get Abiamiri out of here fast enough. Waste of a camp body since he’s hurt every year
I agree.
I thought Sapp had a chance in this kind of system. I have torn my knee up similar to him and while I can understand the pain, I can’t imagine quitting and possibly defining my career like that. I’m now 34 and my knee clicks so bad you that my family can hear it over the tv when I’m coming downstairs, but if an NBA team called, I would be on the first thing smokin’.
As for Abiamiri, this is a good thing for the team. For some reason, we just couldn’t cut him. Now it seems as if he did it for us. Thanks Vic…you cutting yourself is the first and only contribution you made to this team.

I was pissed when they took Sapp, cause I thought he was better suited as a 34OLB not to mention his injury history. I’d rather they took a chance on Perrish Cox who was still on the board and hire him a babysitter.

Sapp went late in the draft becasue
….of injuries correct? That growing trend the eagles fell in, by drafting injured players & hoping to get them on the cheap well failed.
So no shocker on this one.Had no hopes for Sapp or VA. Just more overblown hyped up players
In other news
The Eagles play their first preseason game versus the Ravens one week from today. That seems ridiculously soon.

a nicer spin for the title?
I hate to be nitpicky, but it would be nice if the title acknowledged their injuries, rather than stating that the players quit the team. The headline is scrolled across many SB nation websites, and it may lead some readers to conclude that those players are quitters. Instead, the players may have simply realized that their ongoing injuries would be impossible to overcome. As the text noted, both players seem frustrated, so let’s not add insult to injury.

i’m so sick of all the people bashing them. Knee injuries are no joke, I’ve been there. Never ruptured an achilles tendon but i’d imagine since it’s the main ligament controlling your foot that it isn’t too pleasant. Best of luck to these guys and I hope they fully recover. VA was looking pretty damn good in camp too. sucks
Frustrated or not, why would Victor quit? He will need surgery on his achilles, and wouldn’t the Eagles be responsible, even if they released him?
He didn't quit
Quitting makes him sound like a bitch. Now everyone on the message board is trashing him becuase the article said Quit. He probably couldn’t take the pain anymore, and realized he wasn’t in playing shape. I’m sure there are plenty of reasons that we don’t know about here
Lombardi is talking out of his ass on NFLN saying that Asante is definitely getting traded because we have 2 starters & a backup, not 3 corners. Even though DRC & Nnamdi have said they are willing to go to the slot if necessary & DRC has already taken reps in the slot.

Bottom line, you should always take a reporter in sports with a grain of salt

To put it less simply:

In good defensive line news, today was their day for autographs, and in 7 years of going to camp, this was the 1st time I ever won an autograph session there. It was pretty cool to have Cole sign my jersey of him, and then Jenkins (jokingly) said he wasn’t gonna sign my Trent jersey. Then Babin, who was in the other line if anybody here know how the autographs at Lehigh work, told Jenkins to man up and scribble his name. It was pretty funny and they all seemed like cool guy. Laws was supposed to be in my line, but he didn’t even come out and practice. Then Hunt was pretty cool too. Especially a guy that a lot of guys are rooting for.

I was worried that they would put in less effort and coast “you know, the other superstar can handle this.” Focus on the prize. We’re not the favorites. The Packers, Saints, Falcons… will all have something to say about it before we get to whoever the AFC Champion is in the Super Bowl.
