Giants Bitten By Injury Bug, Then Devoured By It
Just to be clear, this is not a post mocking the New York Giants. For any football fan, the #1 most frustrating thing to deal with is injuries. It's one thing if your team isn't good enough or your coach is stupid or your GM doesn't know what he's going etc... Those are frustrating, but at least you get to see your players playing.
The Giants have been hit with a rash of injuries that would be sure to drive any fanbase mad (and is). Almost right off the bat they lost first round draft pick Prince Amukamara to a broken foot. He should be back at some point this year, but he will have had zero practice time by then. CB Bruce Johnson then tore his achilles.
The news for the Giants secondary got even worse last night when CBs Terrell Thomas and Brian Witherspoon tore ACLs and are done for the year. Thomas tore his after colliding with his own guy, Jason Pierre-Paul, and Witherspoon tore his on a kick return. Unfortunately for them, the bloodbath that was last night's game did not stop there.
The team just announced that rookie DT Marvin Austin, expected to help fill the hole created by the departure of Barry Cofield, tore his pectoral muscle and is done for the year.
[Note by JasonB, 08/23/11 5:07 PM EDT ] Oh and how could I forget? Osi Umenyiora had his knee scoped last week and is expected to out for the next 4-6 weeks.

Q: What do a leaky tampon and Sean McDermott's defense have in common?
A: They are equally ineffective in the red zone.

or we’d be one injury away from being in the same position as last season.

But isn’t this just another bullet point for KC Joyner to add to his “Giants are the NFC East favorites” post?
Point 9 – The Giants injuries. Normally, you think losing players would hurt a team’s chances to win. But in this case, it actually HELPS the Giants. It allows young players to step up and see an increase in playing time — allowing them to become seasoned veterans. Once the injured players return from their injuries the next season, the team will now have 2 groups of excellent players: 1) the players returning from injuries and 2) the newly seasoned veterans.

4.) The Giants can largely absorb the loss of Boss/Smith with more passes to Nicks/Manningham
It’s true that I lost one of my kidneys, but I look it as an opportunity for the other one to really step it up in the blood filtering department.

That’s why I suggest that we play with Nnamdi as the only man on the field while we’re on defense since he’s our best defensive player. On offense we’ll go with Vick and JamJax only because Vick can’t snap himself the ball. But once he has it…game over. Vick accounted for 6 TD’s against the Skins last year. Just think of how many he’ll have if he doesn’t have other people stealing his touches!

Is this the lock outs fault for no offseason drills?
Or just ill timed accidents

I don’t think ACL’s were negatively affected by the lockout.
Hamstrings etc sure… but an ACL tear is just bad luck. Thomas was hit by his own man, that can happen whenever. Happened to Stewart Bradley in preseason. Actually not even preseason… Flight night

To be fair
the season hasn’t come “crashing down” for them. They have had a lot of injuries. Which sucks balls. But Eli, Nicks, Tuck, JPP, Rolle, Webster, etc are all still standing. They’re not going to be the 0-16 Lions. They still have a chance to contend for the division. These injuries might just make it a little harder for them.
I’d rather beat a whole drum kit, rather than just an awshucks looking bongo.. but it’ll have to do. Twice.

Reminds me of us in 2009.
We had a roster practically as stacked as the current one, but injuries ate us alive before the season even began. The carnage continued until all year until, as you know, there was simply nothing left to make a playoff run with.
Some years, it just grabs hold and doesn't let go
It happens to everyone, but it doesn’t make it suck any less when it does.

Who said I would? I looked at it as more of an homage, and maybe a little wishful thinking.
AR should have to wear a Flava Flav necklace until he learns how to manage a fucking clock.
I am the proud target of temper tantrums.
I was making an ironic statement about philly fans being accepting of other fans here.
Sorry if it was lost on you.

safe to say we're a different fan base
than years past.
Too bad your head has to be out of your ass to see it, so the media will never agree.

That completely sucks
any fanbase can sympathize with this heartache during a season.

This sucks for the Eagles.
That’s right it sucks for the Eagles, too. Why? The quality of your opponent is what brings you honor. If the Eagles do pull an 8th straight win against the Giants this season, BFD. It wasn’t like the Eagles would be playing a healthy, whole team. So where is the honor? Sure the taunting would continue, but would it be deserved? Not really. And by beating this beat-up team of leftovers, we make it into the playoffs, great. but where is the honor in that.
While Sun-Tzu would say this is an opportunity, I would so much rather see the Eagles beat the Giants at full strength. Especially this year. Should we be lucky enough to win our first Superbowl, I’d love to see the team dominate the East at it’s best.

Agreed. I prefer wins over legit good teams. I do believe it helps to be just that much sharper post season.
Maybe they’ll get lucky and Shawn Andrews will be healthy.

Even after all the BS, I don’t like the prospect of a healthy Shawn Andrews playing against the Eagles.

he's not on our team anymore

Yes, I am a Giants fan. Now that we got that out of the way....

Well see that? Your season won’t be ALL bad. (Satire intended,)
Best of luck to you guys, except for any games against the Eagles.

Did you set it to all-madden or did you puss out and do all pro and turned off the salary cap?

What!
When did Marvin Austin tear is pectoral? I never saw that.
That’s just crazy. Hate seeing injuries like this for any team. No matter who it is.
