Haters Fact-Check List...

Theres no getting around it, there have been a huge rise in the number of "trolls/haters" coming to various BGN posts and making the same argument over and over again. What theyre saying is wrong, but they dont seem to know it...:(

Maybe this post will help them learn.

Im going to debunk the 4-7 same things every troll seems to be saying about our beloved birds and our wonderful off-season.

Here we go:

Star-divide

1. Kevin Kolb For DRC, 2012 2nd Round Draft Pick:

This is not an argument. Eagles FO robbed the Cards. Getting just the #2 pick wouldve been a good haul for most of us, but throw in a young pro-bowl corner? Done deal.

2. Nnamdi Asomugha is overpaid, Nnamdi is old, we(trolls/haters) didnt want Nnamdi...

See this is where i dont understand society. Do people think before they write things down? Do people do their own research and formulate an opinion based off the facts?

Nnamdi made 16 million last year, this year hes making 9.4. Nnamdi is only getting 3 million more guaranteed than Kevin Kolb got in Arizona, Nnamdi left money on the table to come play for the Eagles(his #1 team from March).

I can tell you this with certainty about Nnamdi: He left significant money on the table elsewhere

-Peter King

-Nnamdi is 30 years old. At the end of this contract he'll be 35. CB's in this league have the longest lifespan out of every other defensive position. Barely any contact, avoid the middle of the field mostly. Look at Charles Woodson, Champ Bailey, Sheldon Brown, Asante Samuel, Rod Woodson...

-Everyone wanted Nnamdi. EVERYONE. So shut up and stop lying.

3. The Eagles are the Redskins/Cowboys now...

Again, people talking out their asses. Lots of Eagle fans have pointed this out, but ill just do it again:

Nnamdi Asomugha: 5 yrs 50 million (25 Mill guaranteed)

Cullen Jenkins: 5 yr 25 million (Can become 1 yr 4 million deal at the end of this year)

Jason Babin: 5 yr 30 million (6-7 million guaranteed)

Vince Young: 1 yr 5 million

DRC: Still on his rookie deal making 900,000 this year. 1.3 mill next year.

Ronnie Brown: 1 yr 1 million

Ryan Harris: 1 yr (Minimum contract)

Steve Smith: 1 yr 4.2 million(only 2 guaranteed)

Again, Babin's/Jenkin's contracts can become 1 year deals. Vince, Ronnie, Ryan, Steve Smith are all 1 year deals.

The only people locked in for 2+ years are Nnamdi(We want him forever) and DRC(Awesome contract).

Every player is at a position of need, none are over paid(even the ones who deserve to be), all took less money to be here showing their willingness to sacrifice $$ to win.

Repeat: Everyone of these deals can basically become a 1 year deal, except the Nnamdi/DRC ones, but why would we want to get rid of them?

4. Eagles are old now. Eagles are moving away from their "draft philosophy" to a "FA'gency philosophy":

I dont feel like doing the math for you so you do it your self. But go and average the age of everyone on your roster, then do the same thing with The Eagles and see what you come up with. Were still one of  the top 5 youngest teams. A perfect blend of youth, mixed with veterans.

In the 2012 draft the Philadelphia Eagles will have:

1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 4th, 5th, 5th, 6th, 6th.

Very nice.

5. Eagles are buying a Superbowl:

This is my favorite one. Lets look at this from The Eagles FO point of view shall we? Im sure they've had their eyes set on the 2011 FA'gency for awhile now. They've built through the draft so they know they'll have a lot of cap space with a lot of good players available.

So FA'gency opens up. The Eagles coming up short last year, see holes on numerous spots on their roster. They also see that they happen to have a lot of money available to sign FA'gents to fill those holes(thats what she said).

So lets see here: Eagles see weaknesses on their team -> Eagles have lots of money -> There are players available for teams to bid on-> Eagles bid on the ones they feel best fit their system and the best deals-> Players choose to play for The Eagles....

Now tell me what The Eagles have done wrong? They saw weaknesses and they went out and got players to come and turn those weaknesses into strengths. The Eagles aren't putting a gun to the FA'gents heads and making them take a paycut and come to Philly. The players make decisions based off whats best for them, and obviously these players feel like Phillys the best place for them.

I dont see a fault in Eagles FO for wanting/signing these guys. I dont see a fault in these guys taking paycuts to come here.

6. Do you really think that we wont give DeSean a new contract?

After seeing the moves the Eagles FO made this off-season to improve this team do you guys really think they dont give DeSean a new contract? Of course they will, they have a plan(obviously), he needs to get his ass to camp first though.

A couple bullet points...

  • Nnamdi did not hold a press conference to make his decision. He did what every FA does. He listened to every teams pitch, and made his decision based off what he felt was right FOR HIM. Is it his fault the media misled you? Is it his fault that your team doesn't have a plan b if they dont get their guy? No. He has to do whats best for him.
  • Our back-up QB called us a dream-team. Yes we admit it. We did not hold a parade and have our guys come out with confetti, and fireworks talking about winning 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Superbowls. No. One guy, out of 90+ said this, and no ones repeated it. Everyone has said how hard they have to/and will work to win it all. Plus we have one of the most respected coaching staffs in the league, and by everyones(that matters) account a top tier organization
  • The whole "were not scared of you" thing is really dumb. No fanbase is ever really SCARED of another team. But we as fans DEFINITELY would rather face some teams, than others. Im sure than 95% of you, really, honestly deep down want to avoid playing The Eagles on your run to the Superbowl. To those that are playing us, this year, its definitely going to be either THE TOUGHEST or the top 2-3 toughest games on your schedule(no argument).
  • Just an FYI, we signed Asante to a 6 yr 57 million dollar deal the first couple days after he became a FA. We traded for T.O, one of the biggest names in the NFL at the time. Weve had big signings before, we just had more money to spend this year, and players decided to take paycuts, plus great timing that most of our core guys are on their rookie deals, which frees up a ton of cap space.
  • Whats the one card people always pull when arguing with an Eagles fan? No Superbowls. Well now were trying to do something about that, by getting more talented, building depth, adding veterans and were being criticized about that? Get outta here.
  • Its time to ease up on the whole Philly fans stereotype. In this day and age with Twitter/Facebook we get to see how people from different parts of the world act, and guess what? There are more idiots in EVERY city in the world than there are smart knowledgeable people. Thats just how it is. Now with social media, everyone has a voice, and whos voice is going to be heard more? The idiots. We saw what Giants fans did to a good like Steve Smith on his FB. had that been Eagles how much time would espn/other blogs spent talking about it? Every fanbase has its idiots, us too, thats just how it is.

I hoped you enjoyed this(Eagles fans), i hope this helps shut some people up. Also it felt really good to type this, and kinda relieve all the signings.

RE: Buying a Superbowl

Had some dumb fuck Steeler fan text me that same bullshit. I had to remind him that this is football not baseball and every team has a salary cap. In fact, the Steelers are trying to rework Big Ben’s contract just so they can get under the cap for this year. Same rules apply for every team. Don’t be mad that the Eagles front office is beyond amazing, especially this year. If we had a payrol that was twice the league average (Yankee’s) I would agree. Since we don’t and could not, I say eat a dick. Sincerley, Philadelphia Eagles

Exactly. Everyone has around 120 million to spend.

To who you give the money too, and how much you give them is the FO’s job.

Dont go sign Eric Weddle to a 40 million dollar deal, or give Fat Al 100 million, dont go years without addressing the O-line, etc…

Eagles... :)

I would

just like to add one thing, I am sure more the just Nnamdi could have gone somewhere and get more money. But who in the fuck would not want to play on this team right now, Everyone and I mean EVERYONE (NFL players included) knows how good this team could be and they want to be a part of it, VY, Ronnie Brown, Harris, Nnamdi, all of them could have gone another route. But they want us so you haters should ask why cant our FO do this and have guys wanting to play for us

by DcEagles29 on Aug 3, 2011 9:06 AM EDT up reply actions

Yup. I think that the reason for that is kind of like a chain effect.

We DRC, then signed Babin. The big move was Nnamdi, once we got him players realized something specials happening in Philly and everyone started taking pay cuts to join.

One thing to add

Every single free agent acquisition, apart from Nnamdi Asomugha, has an escape plan after the first year of their contracts. Meaning if the Eagles wanted too, they could cut them after this year and it would have been like a one year rental, with no cap repercussions later on.

by Team Serbia on Aug 2, 2011 9:40 PM EDT reply actions

I kinda got that in…

Again, Babin’s, Jenkins contracts can become 1 year deals. Vince, Ronnie, Ryan are all 1 year deals.

But ill clarify it.

One more thing about Super Bowls:

Opposing fanbases constantly bring up these past Super Bowls as if they will have an impact on the outcome of their game against us this year. I really want to know the logic behind that.

This one really pisses me off.

Someone asked Nnamdi during his PC:L

“You said that this organization has a history of winning, and yet theyve never won a Superbowl, what made you feel like they gave yoy the best chance to win?”

I dont remember his response but mine wouldve been:

“Yes, the cowboys won a superbowl 16 years ago, the Jets won a superbowl 45+ years ago. How does that help me? Why would two teams tht won the superbowl 15+/45+ years ago have an effect on where i go NOW?”

Eagles have been winning RECENTLY. So you tell me what makes more sense.

Going to a team because they won a superbowl 15+/45+ years ago, or going to a team that has consistently been winning the past 10 years?

winning SB's is the ultimate goal in the NFL

Right. But how does it help Nnamdi in ANYWAY that the cowboys won a superbowl 15+ years ago?

In his eyes you guys have just won one playoff game in 15 years, and Eagles are just one signing away from winning it all.

Maybe hes that signing…

by Kevin M. on Aug 3, 2011 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions

you keep bringing up the past......

How does winning a playoff game in 15 years tell the story of this year? There are so many things left to happen in a season for one signing to be the end all of who does or doesn’t win a SB.

Im not bringing up the past. You said winning a superbowl is the ultimate goal, and by that i thought you were implying that we havent won a SB and you guys have. I just pointed out that to Nnamdi it doesnt matter that you guys won a SB 15+ years ago.

There are so many things left to happen in a season for one signing to be the end all of who does or doesn’t win a SB.

True, but its not just one signing. I hate to repeat what i wrote above but i will:

Nnamdi, Babin, DRC, Jenkins, Brown, Harris are by themselves a good off-season a good haul for most teams. But all of them at once?

And its not like were some lottery team just paying FA’gents to come in to help us get relevant again. We’ve had a lot of pieces in place: Vick, DeSean, LeSean, Maclin, Trent, Peters, etc…

Again, this does not mean we automatically win the Superbowl. nobodies saying that, but the FO’s job is the have the roster in the best shape as possible for the coaches to mold a SB winner out of it.

I think its safe to say they’ve done that, plus a lot more.

Eagles... :)

by Kevin M. on Aug 3, 2011 6:30 PM EDT up reply actions

yep that's what I was talking about

this year only.

And I wasn’t referring to all the signings or just that one signing. I was talking about injuries, strength of schedule, lucky bounces, preparation, teams playing better at different points in the season when we play them. I mean there are so many variables that have to align to have a great season and ultimately winning the SB. I think the talent level is better on the Eagles this year , but I don’t see it as an extremely huge upgrade over Dallas. Our team had good talent last year and proved that when Cupcake was fired. We shouldn’t forget about the rest of the NFC East either, as we all know how tough this division can be each year. Really it should be fun to watch and see how it all plays out.

Its true that you need these things at different points during a season, but a lot of those things you cant control, so really theres nothing to do.

We know theyll work hard(every team does), we have a relatively easy chedule this year, most of the tough games are at home, and i think the NFC East plays the NFC West so that should be fun for both of us.

We shouldn’t forget about the rest of the NFC East either

Right, but we won the division last year, and improved all across the board. You guys, giants, skins really havent made too many big changes.

This is very wrong though. This is one of those things that can never have an outcome with one side winning the argument. Because ill bring up these guys and what they can do, and youll do the same and we wont budge.

But i guarantee you, if you go and ask 100 people which roster theyd rather have, yours or ours. 98% would say theyd take ours. Unless you do your poll in Dallas.

The Eagles roster is a huge upgrade over what the Cowboys have.

I’m sorry, it’s just the way it is. I think DeMarcus Ware and Jason Witten are the only two players on the Cowboys that would compete for a starting job on the Eagles roster.

It’s really not close. Granted, the Cowboys could still beat the Eagles, but the talent isn’t comparable

*for a starting job

I mean, if you’re really pressing, then maybe Ratliff and Free could.

It’s not close. I don’t know why you’d expect it to be close, considering the Cowboys went 6-10 last season (they were given a win, too) with more talent then they have now and the Eagles, after winning the division, decided to go all Awesome-wah on our asses.

by cwel87 on Aug 3, 2011 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I would be to differ that the 6-10 record was due to little talent.

alot of things went wrong last year. We lost 1 game by one point, 3 by 3 points( including the game you guys had your whole team playing against Kitna), 2 games by 6 and 2 by 7. That’s 8 games by 7 or less lost. There could be one or 2 plays from being 6-10 or 10-6. That’s the salary cap league where everyone is pretty close talent wise each year. Well you all are more talented this year , so you should blow us out each game by that standard.

"A mind focused on doubt and fear cannot focus on the journey to victory."

by dubious on Aug 3, 2011 8:58 PM EDT up reply actions

If i remember correctly(which i am), like most games we had trouble scoring in the red-zone. Akers had like 4-5 FG’s, thats a big difference.

Well you all are more talented this year , so you should blow us out each game by that standard.

See we never said this. Obviously we dont think were going to go in and blow everyone out by 30+ points(redskins style..).

Like i said before, there are things you cant control lucky bounces, bad calls, timing issues the first couple weeks…

All were saying, is that ON PAPER, RIGHT NOW, our FO has put us in the best chance to win a Superbowl. By adding talent, veterans who know how to win, keeping the youth, and building depth.

I even made a caveat in my original post:
Granted, the Cowboys could still beat the Eagles, but the talent isn’t comparable.

I did so to ensure you wouldn’t have the ‘you should blow us out each game’ card to play.

And you played it anyway. Don’t know what I can do about that.

by cwel87 on Aug 3, 2011 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

And also, the close loss thing doesn't fly

We were like 20 points from being 14-2 last season. The Packers were literally 25 points from 16-0. Instead, they made it into the playoffs on the last game of the regular season.

Teams lose close games. It happens.

by cwel87 on Aug 3, 2011 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions

my point is the talent in this league isn't as far apart as you might think...

teams are losing most of their games by a touchdown or less. Its that type of league now.

"A mind focused on doubt and fear cannot focus on the journey to victory."

by dubious on Aug 4, 2011 8:27 AM EDT up reply actions

As a whole, the league is not far apart

But the difference between the Cowboys and the Eagles is comparable to the Bengals to the Cowboys.

Could the Bengals beat the Cowboys? Of course they could. Would you expect them to?

We have the added flavor of a rivalry, but in the end, the talent is the talent.

Spot On

I’ve been following this site for 3 years, but finally created an account just to comment on this thread. Amazing work Kevin.

Other fans can’t seem to accept that because their team isn’t doing the same thing, it’s not possible that the eagles

1) are still under the cap
2) have an enviable set of 2012 draft picks
3) have very manageable contracts beyond 2011 (OMG ALL-IN YEAR… NOT)

Maybe there is a reason why some teams make the playoffs every year for a decade and some teams have been looking for their franchise QB for that same length of time?

Our FO owns. Badly. It probably deserves a spot on the all-pro team this year. In an off-season of general hesitation where most owners (including Jones and Snyder) were still testing the temperature of the kiddie pool, Banner dove headfirst into the shark tank and lived to tell the tale.

And why is this an All-In year? Someone please explain that to me. Last time I checked our offense is very very young and locked up, we have DRC and Nnamdi for at least another year and can pay (or not pay) Jenkins and Babin depending on their auditions this year. I do think the Eagles are All-In for a Super Bowl this year, but I also think we could be saying the same thing in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

What’s most dumbfounding to me is that players don’t even seem to know the rules of their own league…

NFL "Fans"

I’m finding it truly astonishing how many “diehard fans” think NFL free agency is anything like MLB free agency and its no cap-luxury tax policy.

Another thing you might want to add… Tampa Bay and Jacksonville are still a bazillion dollars under the cap and haven’t made any significant splashes. I’ve heard their fans say how they think they are building their teams the “right way”. They don’t need to go after flashy names and they criticize the birds for doing what they wish their teams did. Because, you know, there’s a “right way” to try to win a championship.

I’ve seen people saying ‘you can’t buy chemistry’ but look at it

1st off Babin has been here before, he knows he coaches, he knows the players, and he knows our new D-line coach
Nnamdi is first off not just any CB he’s the 2nd best in the league and the best FA available. Plus he seems to be a pure pro and one of the real good guys in the league.

DRC has said he’s willing to play in the slot. Ego doesn’t seem to be an issue there.

The biggest ? would be Asante and to me I’d say they either trade him in the next few days or do something with Hanson and proclaim that Asante is an Eagle this year. That’s his only issue. Not his teammates just the question whether or not they’ll continue to be his teammates.

Everyone else it seems has chosen to take LESS money to play for the Eagles to pursue one goal, a SB ring. These aren’t guys looking for their own stats, or to pad their bank account. They’ve come to be a part of a SB winning team. I’d think that takes care of a lot of issues.

by Eric Gaskill on Aug 3, 2011 1:27 AM EDT reply actions

This whole chemistry argument is pointless too

Everyone chemistry is off right now, even the teams that have been together. It takes every team till week 4-6 to get things right.

Some teams longer than that.

by Kevin M. on Aug 3, 2011 1:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Only difference is that we didnt sign a bunch of nobodies that get confused easily.

Nnamdi, Jenkins, Brown, Babin, DRC are all great/good players. It usually doesnt take players like that too long to be able to play together.

Eagles... :)

by Kevin M. on Aug 3, 2011 1:35 PM EDT up reply actions

So your saying a team that was good last year and still bascially in tact

wouldn’t have chemistry till week 4-6? Even after playing all last year together? Chemistry does matter in the whole scheme of things, alot with many other tangibles.

LOL our Chemistry is fine, everybody's just

hoping it’s off… It’s not like our DT needs chemistry in order for Nnamdi to be successful.

Wild if you look at what I wrote

There is no need to be defensive all the time :) . I am not argueing anything regarding your team chemistry. I was simply commenting on what Kevin said about everyone’s chemistry is off right now.

I will admit...

seeing the F.O. go the F.A. route in such a dramatic fashion has kinda shocked me. Not that i see anything wrong with it,it just hasnt been the organizations style in a real long time. Should make for an interesting yr,and i can not wait to open up vs St.Louis. Lets prepare for an awe inspiring yr with unbelievable athletes,an interesting coaching staff, and pray #7 has worked on his sliding technique. Our birds are on a mission, and that mission is very attainable. GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!

Jerk-michael Finley...

Tweeted a message yesterday where he said the whole “dream team” thing is really bothering him, and he said the Eagles are lucky they don’t play the pack this regular season. I replied “relax, one player said it and the media blew it up”.

Jamar Chaney jumped into the discussion and said, “go ahead and hate us, we’re just going to keep working hard towards our goal”.

Jermichael Finley is overrated. He’s a good TE no doubt, but for some reason everyone hails him as some all-pro.

the Packers second tight end who was a rookie last year (Andrew Quarles, I believe) is supposed to be quite good

Just on addition (on a great write up)

With the new rookie cap in place, we’ll have no problem signing all those picks next year. Howie is a freaking wizard.

1. They made a deal that both teams thought was fair and then got it done. Don’t see the problem.

2. Wanted him from the beginning. Thought there was no chance once the trade with the Cardinals happened. Be happy he wanted to be here more the getting over-paid. Great job by the FO of not being content with what they had and saw a way to make the CB position a strength for the next couple of seasons.

3. Not even close. Sadly, until the Eagles win a couple of Super Bowls we will always be on uneven ground with all the other teams in the NFC East. Being the only team in the division not to win a Super Bowls will always give them bragging rights we cannot argue, just the sad truth.

4. Whoever would make this statement hasn’t been paying attention the last few seasons.

6. Find this one hard to believe. No one could be that stupid. Then again, this is BGN and if the Homers can go through life with their blinders on then I guess others can make moronic statements like that one.

6. He has earned a new contract. Don’t know what the FO will do but DeSean is a top 5 receiver and they would be making a big mistake allowing him to leave.

The Eagles have done a great job this lockout shortened off-season in the Draft and FA signings. If they can rise above the Reidtard’s inevitable mental shutdowns then they should make a good run. Cannot get overly optimistic until they actually make it to the Super Bowl.

by Kachtice on Aug 3, 2011 8:57 AM EDT reply actions

Another one

is that we are evidently signing all these players in direct relation to how scared we are of the said team i.e. “We are only doing this because we are scared of the Cowboys, so we have to do this to beat them”.

Other than that I wish we could point out haters to come here and let them know that “hey if this is one of your arguments, get the fuck out”.

The whole “were not scared of you” thing is really dumb.

Excellent post.

The buying a championship thing is laughable and proves how little attention many fans and even players pay attention to the business of football. The Eagles are not outspending anybody in 2011 by some humongous margin. In fact, the Eagles aren’t going to be the highest salary team even (most likely). They have just spent their money wisely and created an atmosphere and system that attracts free agents. Honestly, I think VY was right to call the Eagles a Dream Team. Not because this team won’t have to work their asses off to win, but because for a player (especially for someone like Young with all his ups and downs) the Eagles organization, coaches and other players must feel like a dream right now. I still wish he hadn’t said it, but I completely understand why he did.

I cannot wait for the season to start.

Only One Thing Matters

Kevin, even though I am a Cowboys fan I absolutely agree with everything in your post. The eagles are doing everything to win their first SB that I wish my team would (could) do to win their sixth. They’ve managed the cap well, drafted well enough, created a structure that supports taking a risk on a guy like Mike Vick and coming out smelling like roses. Most of all they have been able to change their approach when the existing process did not yield the ultimate result (i.e. they’ve signed the older players that in previous years they would never have gone after.) Many kudos to the birds.

BUT, that one card you mention is the only card that counts…there is no getting around it. The birds have an excellent front office and a head coach that I would take for my team any day of the week…and for all of that your franchise has not achieved what almost 60% of the NFL has….a SB win. There have been 45 played already, heck even the Rams, Buccaneers and Saints (yes, the Buccaneers and Saints) have managed to win one.

So, yes, there are haters out there that, IMHO, come off sounding like jeolous idiots trying to downplay the good things the eagles have done leading to and including this off-season. But SB’s are the name of the game and after 45 of ‘em almost 60% of the teams in the league have won at least one. And a few better teams have won multiple. And, of course, the greatest franchises have won 5 and 6. Maybe the birds finally get it done this year…. regardless, they can’t be accused of not going for it.

by TONY_P on Aug 4, 2011 12:26 AM EDT reply actions   1 recs

Thanks bro, always nice to see a level headed sports fan.

I mean yeah its definitely depressing to have no SB’s. What makes it worse is that were not some shit expansion team, or some one year wonder that disappears, were one of the oldest franchises in the league. We have a great history(no SB of course), great players, just no SB… :(

But i dont know what it is, call it confidence, call in cockiness, whatever, i just have a REALLY good feeling about this season.

As a Cowboys fan

there are two things that I really hate about the Eagles offseason

1. The Kolb trade. How does a backup QB with a losing record as a starter get traded for a 2nd and DRC? If he turns out to be a good QB it’ll be an even trade, if he turns out to be a JAG…

2. I don’t understand why a player would sign a contract which gives the team the option of cutting them after year one with no salary cap ramifications. Brilliant move by the Eagles, but I would fire my agent if I was the player. What happens if Jenks gets hurt again and the Eagles cut him? Who is going to give him money then? Again, smart move by the Eagles.

Oh well, see y’all in a few weeks… I can promise you Garrett will have the Cowboys ready to play. Don’t know what the outcome will be, but expect the ’Boys to give you a fight. Should be fun.
