Linebackers
So after last nights game I'm sure theres a lot of panic at the linebacker positiion, and rightly so. I think Matthews in a few years could be a formidable starter, but I don't think he's ready yet. I'm not sure what veteran backers are still available in FA (leave in comments of any big names), but in the event we don't hit the free agent market again, do you see Chaney moving back to the middle and someone like Keenan Clayton/Akeem Jordan move to strong side. Just speculating but I'd love some other opinions, I'm just a little worried

Matthews will improve, remember this was his first time playing significant amount of snaps.

He'll improve
But for now, I think switching Chaney and Matthews will help Matthews improve while improving the run D.

NOPE!
He’s obviously not strong enough to play middle, he gets swallowed up by blockers, can’t shed and is too slow in open spaces! His physicality lacks big time, to produce in the NFL!

If it aint broke dont fix it…Chaney should have stayed at Middle.
Not giving up on Casey but until he improves on basics, like shedding blockers, swat and swim to the direction the ball is going (he took himself outta plays by releasing to the opposite side of the ball) and being more aggresive he needs to sit and learn. I say we trade 2 spare TEs and a pick for a good LB.

Agreed wit you homie. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I think they took Chaney out the middle cuz Casey is a Matthews expecting him to be like his brother and be a beast in the middle. Theres a reason why Matthews dropped all the way to the 4th round…I’m not saying he ain’t good but just not ready. A solid year under his built with subbing in and out he will be alright. But Chaney in the middle sounds good, Jordan to the Strong and MOFO to the WILL would be ok in my book. At least Akeem has been on the field a significant amount of times and has enough games under his belt that he at least knows whats going on
Chaney
Did very well filling in for Bradley last year and was almost a natural at the position.
I hope I am wrong, but Kolb is a four-letter word.

Really, I’m serious. Because when I first started my posts were like this. I grew a lot since then and the vets here never O’ed me, rather offered great ideas on the subject.
Let these kids grow :)

Chaney
No question about it, he’s already shown he can play the middle this Matthews experiment is a failure and they need to end it, let him be the 4th OLB and back up all 3 positions, starters should be Fokou-Chaney-Clayton
Last name Ever
First name Greatest
clayton's worse against blockers than Matthews
He’s really fit for a nickel look, and that’s it
"EFF YOU, WE'RE WINNING ANYWAY!!!!!!" (Bye, Dawk)
Either Chaney or Matthews.
I think Matthews will learn and will be good for us, but maybe the best place for him right now is one of the OLB positions.
Chaney could move the the middle but I don’t know if he’s going to be able to shed blocks either, he can scoot around them and what not but we need a guy who can tear through them.
If anything happens I don’t think we move Matthews out of the starting lineup, he’s been getting in the right position and he’s been good in coverage, it’s the shedding of blocks that’s screwing him.

Any chance
You guys think there is any chance we could deal for Wilkinson from the Jags? or let’s say Pierre Walters from KC? maybe Witherspoon from the Titans?
If not these guys who would be likely to come in?
Fly Eagles Fly and watch the cowgirls cry.
Nahh, he's a good tackler, but horrible in pass coverage.

switch
Switch Chaney and Matthews! We need experience and leadership at the MLB, and this will also give time for Casey to develop that, just not at that position. We traded Kolb for a corner back, so what I wanna know is why we hadn’t traded for a linebacker when everyone knew we were in NEED.
Because we needed a RCB more than a LB
and we didn’t think Nnamdi was coming here.

Hey, as much as our LB core sucks...
lets put this into perspective. We needed help at corner, we got it. We stacked more DL’s and grabbed some good sought after free agents. Eventually, we have to grow our talent from the draft, we can’t buy everyone. if we want Vick and DJ to get extensions we coulnd;t have just gone out and get Tulloch. I would love a 1 yr deal on some veteran on the defense in the LB core, but I don’t see it happeneing.
Reporter: "Randall, why do you think you can fly?"
Randall: "Because I'm an Eagle." HA
Actually it was more Casey mistakes than anything. Fokou's playing extremely well and Chaney's looking good.

Kirk Morrison
I have been saying this for a while now, I think will make an already rly good D the best in the NFL. Teams are going to be able to run on us and come playoff time that could be a problem. I think Dixon and Paterson will help to an exent but Im not sure if any of our current LBs are good enough.

Eh he could be the answer but he's a guy who hasn't played in a system like ours.

It’s gonna become a problem way before playoffs time. All the teams are gonna figure out that big weak spot and shove it down our throats and its gonna hurt us every game. There is a definite change that needs to be made.Check out Brian Rolle love the kid could fit a spot in the LB core great!
I think we'll be fine. The LB's will learn and adjust then come playoff time that weakness is gone.
