Michael Vick had one bad game. No need to freak.
My, my, my...How easy it is for fans to go from sugar to shi-bleep when it comes to Michael Vick's performances on the field? On Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc., all I see are people hating on him about what was, truthfully, the results of a man who simply had a bad game.
Sorry for the sudden rant, but I thought that if I was to find a group of fans who agreed with me on this unnecessary overreaction, they'd be here on BGN. Thanks for letting me vent a lil' - Ha.

I simply recognize when someone would do more harm than good.
T.O. was great for a year. And then he was a cancer. As awesome as 2004 was, that’s how bad 2005 was. And one was a small part of T.O., while the other was directly affected by T.O.

Do you remember our Super Bowl hangover? Do you remember four straight trips to the NFC title game prior? What do you think happened to the team to make it implode?
Seriously, man.
Actually
TO had the guts to call out Donovan which no one dared to do before or after and I actually applaud TO for that, who the fuck was taking their gay (happy) old time in that last drive in the Super Bowl, it definitely wasn’t T fucking O, he was out there playing on one leg and risking further injury and his career. So don’t tell me about my contrarian opinion, try to look at both sides of the issue, don’t be so blind with your perspective.

Perhaps because they would have been wrong to call Donovan out?
For years, McNabb and the Dawkins-led defense led us deep into the playoffs. Our offensive line was solid, but our skill positions (except for Westbrook, but even he would be considered a tweener by the most ardent of fans) were dog shit.
Just because McNabb’s tenure in Philadelphia ended with a thud (and it certainly did) does not mean his tenure here was bad. That 2004 team was the culmination of our early ’00’s success when it should have been another stepping stone.
That was Owens’ fault, through and through. Just because you have this blind, unfounded hatred of one of the top two quarterbacks in (Super Bowl-era) franchise history does not make your view any less of an outlier. Rightfully (and thankfully) so.
Out of the woodwork?
I haven’t stopped posting/commenting on this site for years since I joined? How in the hell did “come out of the woodwork”? T.O. was a whiny ass bitch with a fuckload of talent. The talent didn’t make him any less of a whiny bitch. T.O. had the guts to call out McNabb? Why did he do it to the media? That’s not how shit should be handled.
T.O. is an attention whore. He was an attention whore in San Fran before he came to Philly and he was an attention whore in Dallas afterward. He wants to win, but only on his terms.
You make it sound like there was some huge problem with McNabb that T.O. exposed to the world. And yet somehow McNabb is still the best QB to ever wear an Eagles uniform (for now) and the Eagles managed to make it to and win in the playoffs without T.O. for years. In fact, the Eagles didn’t need T.O. to win any playoff games even that year. What exactly do you like about T.O. soooooo much? The Eagles didn’t do anything with him that were not able to do before or after him except secure the first seed in the NFC. The only reason he was so noteworthy was because it was the first time Andy Reid had bothered to invest anything in a talented WR.
I’m not so blind to say that T.O. being on the team long term couldn’t have been fantastic. McNabb in his prime with a HOF wideout would have been something really special. However, T.O. chose to destroy a perfectly good situation by demanding a contract renegotiation that he had no right to. Calling out McNabb didn’t mean anything in the long run. It was post-SB loss frustration that would have been dealt with internally and written off if T.O. knew the first thing about being a team player. T.O. is not an Eagle anymore because of himself. It’s not McNabb’s fault T.O. is gone. It’s T.O.‘s (and Rosenhaus’) fault. Get over it.

Honestly, if he goes in as anything I think it will be as a Niner.
That’s where he matured (talent-wise) and proved he had HOF quality. He also did more for them than he did for any other team. But really, would they want him in the HOF as a Niner? I bet not. And I know the Eagles and Cowboys wouldn’t want him either. He wasn’t significant enough on the Bills or Bengals to go in with them.
For being a douche he should go in as a Cowboy. That would be perfectly appropriate.
What do players do in that situation? Is there anybody in the HOF in that position?

Tony Romo 2011's League's Most Valuable Player
Okay fine, I get it, no one likes TO here after what happened. And I’m not blind to the fact that TO has some issues, all I’m saying is that TO wasn’t the only one to blame for everything falling apart. Did his immaturity get in the way, of course it did, but I don’t hold McNabb in the highest of regards in that fiasco either. He probably had as big of an ego as TO, if not bigger. Ever since he got booed at the draft, he’s been crying like a baby, he probably still hasn’t gotten over it. And if you say McNabb is the greatest qb in our history after all those championship losses, and no Super Bowl wins, then it doesn’t say much about our history.
Now, one thing I will say in favor of McNabb was that he was never put in the right offense for his skill set. He was never a west coast offense qb, his accuracy for the slants was mediocre at best. How many times do you remember him throwing too high or too low on those passes. I think it’s the coach’s job to put the Qb in a system where he can thrive, and I think with TO being added, they were turning into a more down the field offense, unfortunately both men had too big of an ego to co-exist and that was the crux of the problem. And if they would’ve co-existed (and I’m not saying that TO was easy to deal with) then the Eagles could have worked something out, I mean, the Cowboys gave him a contract that was acceptable for him, why couldn’t the Eagles ?? I hate to see just one player get blasted and the other player get treated like royalty, I don’t think it’s either fair or accurate.
And the whole woodwork comment was not meant for the TO hate, you took that one too seriously bud.

Wait a minute, at least McNabb doesn’t whine in front of the media. TO fucking throws his QB under the bus after the Super Bowl. Can’t he at least critisize McNabb in private? McNabb gets critisism from the media, (including Rush Limbaugh who doesn’t know shit about football), when the hell does does he whine in front of the media Give me an example please.
McNabb is the best QB in our franchise ( Norm Van Brocklin was an Eagle for just two years), and he is the best QB under adversity of all time. He’s gotten more critisism than he should have, as said earlier, and his win loss record is better than 60%, he’s thrown for 210 TD’s despite averaging 13 games a season. And if you don’t remember, he’s thrown 4 TD’s after breaking his ankle, and the talent around him was terrible. Freddie Mitchell, James Trash?? Despite all this, he’s a class act. TOdidn’t have even half of McNabb’s adversity and whines twice as much.

One thing you'll say in favor of McNabb?
One thing?
What the hell?
You’re wrong. I don’t bother paying attention to your points because you’re just trolling or you’re completely oblivious, and someone has made the mistake of telling you you’re not. Either way, there’s no point in arguing.
McNabb was the best Philadelphia Eagles quarterback in the Super Bowl era. He was 100% class while he was here, and won. A lot. Perhaps not enough, but neither did Marino, or Kelly, or Tarkenton.
Any real Eagles fan knows that. Yup, I went there.
Why do you think T.O. leaving was only about McNabb?
That was an issue that could have easily been dealt with. TO left because he demanded a new contract and wouldn’t man up and just play football. The shit with McNabb was a sideshow. Drew and TO figured that if they could divide the locker room and cause a ruckus the front office would have to bow to their demands to make peace. They knew the media would play up the story and they knew McNabb was sensitive enough to not just have it roll off his shoulders. But they didn’t figure on Andy and Co. not dealing with their bullshit.
TO had a great contract that would have paid him handsomely if he had just played it out. He had only been here for one season before demanding a new contract. He wasn’t forced to sign his Eagles contract, just the opposite in fact since he blew up the trade to B-more because he insisted on coming to Philly. Why didn’t he negotiate a better contract right up front? He didn’t seem to have problem when he signed the damn thing.
Are you really so far up TO’s ass you can’t bring yourself to admit that McNabb, during his best years, was a damn good QB for the Eagles? Championships? Is that really your argument for him not being any good? That is tired, played out and the response of a bandwagon Cowboys fan. As an Eagles fan you should be better than that.
Look, no one is sitting around pretending McNabb was a 70% passer or the best QB of his generation. He had plenty problems, but he was also a dynamic playmaker who amassed a ton of yards and a ton of wins (quite a few in the playoffs as well believe it or not). Sometimes he had weapons, a lot of times he didn’t (specifically at WR). You talked about TO playing the SB on one leg but conveniently didn’t mention McNabb passing for 400 yards and a win against Arizona on a broken leg.
TO was probably the most talented individual player to wear an Eagles uniform in the Andy Reid era, but he was basically here for one season. Love him or hate him McNabb did far more for the Eagles than TO ever did and anyone who says different is lying or was only an Eagles fan in 2004.

Hope you have a good season Chris
Twitter- @kjbrophy
Honestly the most slack I got on facebook
were from Steelers fans saying that us picking up Vick was a mistake. Eagles fans, I think, understand its preseason. We have watched Vick play for years and understand that it was a bad game. I dont hear any Eagles fans – at least ones I know – calling to cut him. But he does have to work on reading the defense and there were a lot of other problems out there despite his poor play.
I see more of the Rookie Matthews isn’t ready or reliable comments. Although I would agree, he really hasn’t had that much time to prove himself. It would be nice to have some veteran presence out there at the LB position.
"I'm Cracking Eggs of Wisdom!" @lnweitzel
Well, Here are 3 reasons I'm not worried about Vick or our defense...
1. This is Pre-Season…. The 0-16 Lions went 4-0 in preseason during 2008. Pats went 1-3 in 2007, when their record would be 16-0.
2. Vick has had a bad preseason as late as last year.
3. This is a learning phase for the Eagles D and Vick. Miscommunications are bound to happen when you have just 3 remaining defensive starters from last year. In the TD Asante gave up, Nate Allen wasn’t supposed to blitz, but go over the top and help Samuel. As for Vick, he’s still learning how to make better pre-snap reads, which caused 2 out of his three picks. It’ll take time to gel, just ask the Miami Heat, who started out just 9-8. If there’s a good time to make mistakes it’s now.

Vick will be fine, he said himself he started forcing it when they went down 14-0 because he knew he’d only be in for the 1st half. There’s a more legit problem, the LB situation. Also it’s awesome that an NFL player reads this blog. Yell at the groundscrew to fix Solider Field haha it’s long overdue

Agreed...
Seriously, when did the preseason become the be-all, end-all of how things are going to go? I understand the frustration, but honestly, Mike Vick is the least of the Eagles’ problems. He didn’t suddenly forget how to play MVP-caliber football just because he had one bad night. He was playing without one of the best No. 2 options in the league with a vanilla playbook designed to work some things out. It’s not the end of the world. Preseason is basically meaningless for the established guys like Vick, Asante Samuel (I doubt we’ll see him jump that route in that situation in the regular season), DeSean Jackson (OMG, HE’S GOING TO GET LESS THAN 10 YARDS PER GAME) and others.
That being said, much like everyone else, I am concerned about Casey Matthews and Nate Allen. Matthews really needs to increase the physicality. He looks tentative, scared and worst of all, soft.
I agree, the man had a bad game, no need to panic…
by EAGLES805 on Aug 19, 2011 2:04 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
Well put Hitman.
Just about the entire team had a bad game. It was the second pre-season game, it doesn’t matter a bit in the big scheme of things.
Ultimately, some adversity is good, it should help these guys focus on getting better for next week and highlight some areas that need to be improved. You can’t correct a problem till you are aware it exists. Now we know what areas need to be strengthened.
Vick readily admitted he was forcing the issue because he only had one half of football to play.
I am very much not concerned. Awesome to see a player get in on the act btw Thanks for stopping by.

Chris, I am so happy you're coming to the Linc this year
I’m tired of watching Soldier Field during the Bears/Eagles tilts instead of, you know, the players.
Soldier Field is an atrocity. My apologies for having to play on that ‘thing’ for eight games. At least you’ve got good fans in Chicago!
Here’s to no injuries and a fun season of football.
Thanks Cwel
Apology accepted.
Love,
Chris

ding ding ding
we have a winner

Too predictable
Just a hint: Steve Smith is going to be involved in it !

I hope so. We play you guys in Week 3.
With him gimping around, we don’t even have to send a defender his way.

I knew that would hit home...
Unfortunately the Giants won’t be as overconfident as to not send any defenders his way, but I hope they would listen to your advice, lol.

Smith will be on the PUP coming into the season
won’t even be eligible till week 7.
If by some way he is eligible, he would have started to practice during week 1 (that’s the most positive timetable given by Andy Reid himself).
So you guys will be wasting a WR spot on a dude who has maybe a week of practice after not practicing for almost a year. This is also the dude that is coming of microfracture surgery of the knee and who makes his bread by superior route running.
So yeah, I was totally serious. He may be a factor the 2nd time we play you guys, but as of right now, I’m seriously hoping he’s on the field on week 3.

Okay Rick Burkholder...
That is the same flawed diagnoses that your medical staff had which resulted in a low ball offer which resulted in the Eagles swooping in at the right time and taking advantage of the situation. All you’re doing now is being bitter about that situation… he’ll be ready especially to stick it to you guys in week 3… watch out for that first play of the game.

From Andy Reid himself, via rotoworld
Coach Andy Reid estimated that Steve Smith (knee) won’t be ready to practice for three or four weeks.
Smith won’t be ready for practice till week 1. I’m not being bitter, I was over the whole situation the 2nd or 3rd day after it happened. Just being truthful now. If you think Smith will be on the field by week 3, great! I hope so, too. Doesn’t mean our wishes will be fulfilled though.

Yeah, Reid said that like 2 months ago...
Yeah, he’ll practice by week 1 and play by week 3… the only way this can be settled is to wait for week 3 (unless he has a setback – my out).

And again, if he plays he’ll be a nonfactor.

And by the way
the “flawed” diagnoses that the Giants’ medical staff had is the same diagnoses that your medical staff has. And, oh I dunno, being a medical student, I’d know nothing about injuries, now, would I?

so that’ll work out for you guys, since you’ll have no one to cover him. (I know, hilarious…) Let’s see if you’re laughing then.

It's hard to tell at this point really
He might be ready to go by then, the reports by the team don’t say one way or the other, so we can go round and round, but neither one of us would be right, we’ll just have to see it play out and I would just suggest to watch him on that first play !!!

I certainly won’t say “Steve Smith will not have an impact week 3”.

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

I dunno, if he starts practicing week 1
he only has two weeks to get into game shape. He’s been out of football for a year coming off major knee surgery, and the biggest reason why he’s even good is his route running….you can be sure his cutting will suffer.

Well I mean if his knees ready for him to return to football then he should be
fine.
And I think he’s been doing stuff to stay in shape.

Its preseason
Which means it is meaningless. See how they look next week. 3rd preseason game is the only one that matters in the least.
Concerns about the defense though are more legit. Ton of younger, inexperienced and possibly not-so-good players at LB. S is also awfully raw although Coleman played the run well.
