Eagles Hall Of Famer Pete Pihos Passes Away At 87

The Eagles announced this morning that hall of fame receiver Pete Pihos passed away late last night after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. Pihos spent his entire nine year career in Philadelphia and won two championships with the Eagles in 1948 and 1949. He made six pro bowls and led the league in receptions for three straight years, twice in yards and once in TDs. He also caught the game winning 31 yard TD in the 1949 NFL Championship game against the Rams.

Pihos was one of the NFL's true 60 minute men as well, also earning All Pro honors as a defensive end. Even more amazing, he missed only one game due to injury.

He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1970. Pihos is certainly before my time and I'm sure before the time of a lot of people who read this site, but it's important to recognize these men who are such a part of the history of this league and this team. Pihos was everything you imagine when you think of an old school player. He had to wait two years to start his NFL career because he was in the military, played offense and defense, tough as nails...

RIP Pete.
