Who will get the majority of carries at RB position?

Will LeSean McCoy carry the load this year?  Can Ronnie Brown beat him out?  Last season was going well for Ronnie until he was injured.  From there on out it was rough and he ended up in the not so rare air of 30th best running back in the league.  I would think LeSean McCoy is more dependable.

I also want to start a discussion on how Andy Reid will use the running back with Vick at qb.  Bringing in Ronnie Brown who played in the wildcat offense in Miami could allow more of that type offense in Philly.  And with a talented running back and receiver corps, it's going to be difficult to load against either group.  Defenses will have to play honest, and that usually leads to big plays with a multidimensional attack like the Eagles have this season.  Comment away after the jump.

McCoy is the starter. That’s really not up for debate. Ronnie Brown will get touches, probably moreso on third down than anything else. I’m guessing you don’t see a lot of Wildcat packages with Brown, since you already have Vick at QB — just put him in the shotgun! But I don’t think you’ll see that sort of gimmick too often this year. The passing game is too good for that, and Reid loves to pass. Should they opt to ground it out with a lead, they’ll be handing it to McCoy in a traditional pro running scheme.

Ouch!

You guys are rough! I didn’t see the Eagles play much last year but I thought Ronnie Brown might have enough talent and experience (if the latter is worth anything) to unseat McCoy. But yeah, I know McCoy has some talent of his own.

Thanks for the opinions!

You just insulted us with that question. The first thing I did was check to see when you joined BGN. Ronnie Brown will be lucky if he see’s 5 touches a game btw. McCoy is the workhorse.

WRONG

NO WAY. I will gladly look you up at the end of the season to throw this one back in your face. I like Shady, he is the real deal…but 5 touches for Brown, youre crazy. Have you not seen the preseason runs…they wont be able to leave him on the bench.

At first, I was weary that Brown had hit a wall and was not even sure he would make the team, but after seeing his pop Thursday night, I think he will fill in nicely.

While Brown has no chance of starting over Shady, I can certainly see Brown filling in similar to how Levens did in 2002 and 2004. I can even see Brown threatening Shady from rushing for over 1,000 yards.

by captain nodar on Aug 14, 2011 1:03 PM EDT reply actions

I have no idea how you'd work out Ronnie Brown hit a 'wall'

People need to stop jumping to uneducated conclusions they form for whatever reason and then incessantly defend said conclusions.

It does no good for anyone. Opinions are fine, but have legitimate reasons for forming them.

by cwel87 on Aug 15, 2011 10:39 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm sorry I saw nothing wrong with what he said.
At first, I was weary that Brown had hit a wall and was not even sure he would make the team, but after seeing his pop Thursday night, I think he will fill in nicely.

Basically he said he wasn’t sure if Brown was going to do well on this team because he felt Brown may have hit the dreaded RB wall. Which is actually a very fair assessment considering Browns only broken 1,000 yards once in his career and has been declining quite a bit every year since then and last season really looked as if he had reached the end of the road.

Also if you read the last part where he said after Thursday night he’s come to the conclusion (like myself) that Brown can help this football team and fit in very well.

While Brown has no chance of starting over Shady, I can certainly see Brown filling in similar to how Levens did in 2002 and 2004. I can even see Brown threatening Shady from rushing for over 1,000 yards.

I don’t understand what’s wrong with this. Brown has 0 chance of taking Shady’s job.. However if he plays well enough the Eagles will have to get Brown the ball.. I view it as the Westbrook/Buckhalter type of system where Brown=Buck and McCoy=Westy….

Sorry, I know you probably don’t follow the Eagles too closely so you aren’t totally informed on all our players, but this is a silly question. McCoy is quickly becoming one of the best RB’s in the NFL and is unquestionably the starter. Ronnie Brown is good, but he’s not in Philly to challenge McCoy; he’s in Philly to complement McCoy.

by NOLACuse on Aug 14, 2011 2:52 PM EDT reply actions

Really?

If we have one single player that is happy about not starting and enjoys playing second fiddle to anyone…they arent NFL quality players…you can best believe Vick didnt come here just to sit on the bench. VY came here to learn the system, I can guarantee you he would love the shot to start.
