Mike Patterson's agent J.R. Rickert said it seems "very likely" the defensive tackle will play football this year. Patterson is still awaiting the final word from doctors.

Why is Vince Young over Kafka and automatic assumption?

For two pre-seasons now I have watched Kafka very efficiently march the 3rd stringers up and down the playing field. I really like his skill set, poise and (usually) decision making. VY has a strong potential upside, but his down side is just as strong – and well known. I’m kind of confused why VY is immediately considered the #2 when I am not sure this argument is settled. I suppose Doug Pederson, Andy and Marty have to put more reps in for both players to resolve this one, but right now I’d feel a lot better with Kafka as my #2, so long as he worked the West Coast and didn’t throw a lot of bombs.

Good point.

I think Young is probably a better in-game sub just because of his ability to create plays, but I’d rather see Kafka starting if Vick was out for an extended period of time.

It’s funny that Reid has twice drafted the same guy to be the QB-in-waiting (accurate passer with questionable arm strength, OK athlete, game manager) while his starter is the polar opposite (great athlete, cannon for an arm, questionable accuracy, game breaker).

I don’t know, it’s early to say. Vince Young has only practicing with the team for a week. He has won 30 NFL starts though.

Steve Smith placed on the PUP list. Works out well considering we have a week 7 bye (so he gets an extra week). Here’s to a nice debut for him week 8 at the Linc against the Cowboys.

That doesn't necessarily mean that he'll miss the first 6 games

I think that’s only the case if he’s on the PUP list at the start of the regular season. They have been saying all along that Justice could well be ready to play by week 1 and he’s on the list. I don’t think this means anything either way, we’ll just have to wait another couple of weeks to find out.
