PrintSteve Smith took to his facebook page to explain to Giants fans why he left to sign with their most hated rival.
I will always cherish my time in NY and the super bowl victory.. This was obviously not an easy decision for me or something i ever expected but unfortunately the business aspect proved that the eagles wanted me to be part of their organization MUCH more than the Giants did.. A special thanks to my WR buddies, coach Gilbride, all of u amazing fans on here, and the entire giants organization for drafting me.. Time for a new beginning...
Smith met with the Giants this week and I think it's fair to assume from this quote that the meeting didn't go as well as Smith hoped. He clearly didn't "feel the love" from Giants GM Jerry Reese. So, Howie Roseman was right there to welcome into the City of Brotherly Love.
Not surprisingly, the Giants fans comments on the page are extremely bitter, full of foul language and hatred toward Smith. Any regret he may have had probably will be erased by those classy folks...

We can use money from against the cap next year up to a certain amount. There are still cuts that are going to happen over the next few weeks. There is no way that Howie and Banner would sign an injured Steve Smith if it meant they wouldn’t have money to resign Jackson especially now that he’s shown up in camp.

DeSean’s under contract, and Eagles can franchise tag him next year…in two years, DeSean will be almost 27, has had two concussions…and who knows what happens before two years from now…he’s injury prone and small framed, and Drew R has to know this…the Eagles front office really is holding all the cards…Now, they want him to be a good teammate, so they want to sign and extend him…but ultimately, he’s probably going to have to come to their number and not the other way around I bet…and I see Steve Smith as a player for the one year run, and if he does well, they’ll have the cap space to extend him regardless of what DJax does…

He does talk shit, but he’s consistent, and usually funny as hell. Plus, he’ll speak badly about his own players, coaches, or FO when he thinks there’s a problem, so he’s not just some homer who lacks perspective.

Why do I get the feeling that this spells the end of DeSean’s time with the Eagles? His holdout is Sheldon Brown all over again, but now the FO is stocking a replacement to slide in next year If DeSean’s play this year doesn’t warrant a franchise tag.

This off season has been completely different than any Other eagles offseason, and better too. Desean stays , Rosencrap is going to make the contract talks very drawn out and time consuming. Don’t expect anything to happen for awhile..

we don’t need him on the eagles. our WR corp is good enough without him. he definitely should be playing behind jackson, maclin and avant. if we keep riley off the field in 4 WR sets, the offense will be lacking height, which has been the root of the end zone problem for years.

Yeah and the first 2 games we play won’t be that bad. We play the Rams who are on the rise, but still have a spotty secondary besides Mikkel, and the Falcons who we completely own for whatever reason no matter who we put out on the field. However, I’m going to the Falcons game and I’d love to see Maclin out there.

To me , all those new signings are icing in the cake .
Defense will be the difference breaker this year , and i was already sold since the Nnamdi move…
Trying to look at it objectively
but how does this signing make sense for the Eagles tactically. Yeah you have your fun poking at us poor, distraught Giants fans. But he really will not be ready to contribute for lets say the first quarter of the season, as an optimistic diagnosis. He’ll still be shaky after serious knee injury, and they only signed him to a one year contract. So even if he plays well in say weeks 8-17, they’ll have to give him a bigger contract to keep him next year. And who does he play over? I thought the Eagles like Avant?

We have everything we want from the LOLskins…we got their second rounder last year and their fourth rounder this year…basically, our starting S and starting MLB…for a guy who’s not on their team anymore…
