Marlin Jackson And Victor Abiamiri Go Under The Knife

If you had to put money on which two Eagles would be the first to have surgery only after about a week of camp, surely you have put all your cash on these two. The Eagles announced today that Victor Abiamiri and Marlin Jackson both underwent surgery yesterday.

Abiamiri had his right achilles tendon repaired and was put on IR. Marlin Jackson underwent a procedure to have a sports hernia fixed.

Both players have been injured for almost their entire careers in Philadelphia and were longshots to be contributors this year anyhow. So their loss isn't a big deal, but it still is always a bummer to see guys' careers derailed or ended by injuries. To make it all the way to the NFL, only to have your body fail you has to be a tough pill to swallow.

Sucks for Jackson if he didn’t have the injury’s the past two years he could of contributed on defense

This is very unsurprising news.

Did anyone actually expect Marlin Jackson to contribute?

i’m curious now. abiamiri has been on the roster for how many games now and how many of them have been on IR?

by RogerPodacter on Aug 10, 2011 11:32 AM EDT reply actions

wow. i phrased that like an idiot. what i meant to say is….

i am curious to know how games we have played since he has been on the roster and how many games he has missed due to being on IR.

by RogerPodacter on Aug 10, 2011 11:32 AM EDT up reply actions

He’s played in 29 games over 4 seasons.

by JasonB on Aug 10, 2011 11:44 AM EDT up reply actions

thats 4 seasons, not including this upcoming season.
assuming he spends this whole season on IR, that would be 29 games in 5 seasons. ugh. i had high hopes for this guy!

by RogerPodacter on Aug 10, 2011 12:08 PM EDT up reply actions

How much do they make if they go to IR?

hope its only 5 bucks because these guys salaries need to be contributed to the Desean Jackson/Michael Vick restructured Contract funds

by birdsfaninsc on Aug 10, 2011 11:32 AM EDT reply actions

These guys got hurt giving it their all for their team. They certainly dont deserve just 5 bucks, and you wouldnt be saying that if one of them was a bigger contributor.

They can’t cut Abiamiri because he’s on IR. Jackson will be though.

I’m not knocking on Abiamiri, some people are just injury riddled unfortuneatly, but how much has he been paid for his time as an Eagle? I know he was a 2nd round pick.
The guy is 25(?) and has been in the league since 2007 and he’s only played in 29 games. Such a shame, who knows, maybe he would have been a stud

Nickle Personnel is LCB: Asante, RCB: DRC, NB:Aso

I know its unrelated but I didn’t think this was Fanshot worthy. I just wanted to post that EaglesInsider finally tweeted that our top 3 CBs will be the Nickle personnel. Before they were claiming that Hanson was still the Nickel and DRC was only involved in Dime.

EaglesInsider Eagles Insider
Asante at LCB. DRC will go outside and Nnamdi inside on nickel. RT @coreyegan13: any word on who will start opposite #asomugha

Good news

I was starting to worry after seeing Hanson play inside in the nickel during camp. While DRC was on the sideline. At this point, I’m not even sure Hanson makes the team, but if he does, the last thing we need is him taking snaps away from the big three.

Off topic but

If the Eagles release M.Jackson, I hope they give #28 to DRC, That #45 just does not look right on him in my opinion.

Rehabiamiri

I’d love to know why they don’t cut him. He’s spent what, his last 3 seasons on IR? He is useless. Isn’t his rookie contract over after this year? They say he can’t be cut because he’s on IR… but why bother putting him on IR?

I know

the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results but if they keep VA he has never done anything and his next contract will be cheap. If he somehow does stay healthy and turns out to be good than that would be great for the birds. The healthy part is just a huge “if” though.

Cowboys suck.

The law of averages

would say we have to have a few people on IR – better having some ol’ reliables like Marlin & Victor on there than some other people I could mention (but won’t for jinx purposes of course)!

Cap Space

Does anyone know how this will affect the cap space? Assuming Marlin is cut his salary should be dropped, but what about Abiamiri? If he is headed to IR does his salary still count against the cap?

With the Steve Smith signing, we seem to be running out of cash for DJax. I understand that signing Vick to a long term deal will open up some money, but don’t we have an upcoming deadline where we have to be under the cap?

eaglescap has question marks for Victor’s salary and Jackson is only 685,000.
