The Linc - Marty Says Michael Vick Can Be Better Than Steve Young
NFL.com news: Eagles OC sees Vick possibly being better than Steve Young
Marty Mornhinweg believes Michael Vick could be better than Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young -- and he should know. The Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator not only coached Young during his last two Pro Bowl seasons in San Francisco in 1997 and 1998, he also coached Brett Favre in 1996 when the future Hall of Famer won his only Super Bowl title with the Green Bay Packers. Now Mornhinweg is in charge of Vick, and as he sees it, the sky's the limit.

In news that should come as a surprise to no one, the Eagles kind of stunk at covering tight ends again last year.

That is the task for Juan Castillo and the new defensive coaches. Too often mental mistakes led to breakdowns on defense in 2010. Sean McDermott is a smart coach. He had some smart players. Somewhere there was a communication breakdown (and it did drive us insane).

From this point on...
Yes Vick can be better than Young….obviously overall he cant be because we had to revive his career…you get what I mean?

Do you hear that? That's the sound of the media ramming the Miracle at the New Meadowlands down your throat for the rest of your life...BAHAHAHAHA....
That is some lofty praise by Marty.
And it’s all about the dreaded “P” word. I would have to agree with him, though. Vick has boat loads of talent similar to Steve Young’s so yeah, I think it is safe to compare the two and say Vick could reach, or surpass, the heights Young achieved. He’s also in a place where he will continue to get some of the best coaching in the league, so no worries there either. But Marty also said, and I agree here too, that Vick “has a long way too go.”
Sidenote: In the comments below that piece, a couple of people said that Young was not great. Ridiculous. This has become a theme I have come to really pay attention to on theses sites. That is, people down-playing, qualifying, or dismissing great players greatness. Even all-time great players are not immune. Maybe it’s just homerism. Where if said player does not, or never wore, my teams uniform than I must degrade them. I dunno. But I think it’s weird.
Just get it done already...
Calm down, Marty.

Q: What do a leaky tampon and Sean McDermott's defense have in common?
A: They are equally ineffective in the red zone.
And Tommy is wrong.
Calling Sean McDermott a “smart coach” is a gross breach of journalistic ethics. The guy was a fucking moron who led arguably the least heads-up defensive unit in the NFL. And his stupidity was compounded by putting the extremely untalented Patterson, Hanson and Harris in positions where they were in man coverage. Yikes. No wonder we consistently got abused for long TD’s.

This has nothing to do with the links, but I feel something this morning
Almost like a mother that knows something is going on with her young, like an intuition of sorts.
I don’t know what it is, but I think we hear great news today about the lockout.

You better be right
The other day, my buddy sent me a link telling me they reached a deal…it was the Rick Roll video.
Not. Funny.

Does anyone else get the feeling that the lockout might be a big business ploy for the NFL? The NFL always loses some steam in the off season but with the lockout they’ve been in the spotlight the entire time now, the lockout has dominated the sports headlines. And isn’t it funny that right before the time it will start affecting games is right when they magically start figuring things out at a fairly rapid pace? And then after the lockout ends it’s going to lead to the most chaotic and exciting period of transactions in NFL history with all sorts of big name free agents and trades waiting to drop. And you can bet your life that those transactions are going to dominate the headlines, fans are going to be filled with hope, people are going to be excited etc. etc. etc. and all that enthusiasm will carry over to the regular season and ratings will be higher and all that kind of stuff.
IDK… I guess I’m just thinking that the people in charge didn’t do all they could and maybe it was on purpose to generate publicity.
No, I think the lockout has hurt them badly.

How though? Right now everybody is pissed but as soon as a deal is reached and all those huge transactions start flying everybody is going to come running back. Like I’d bet that on the first day of free agency the page hits here at BGN double, at least. The NFL is going to get HUGE press.
Yeah, but they would have had an enormous following all offseason anyway. You’re right that free agency is going to blow up here (everywhere, really). Hell, for the draft, BGN was getting 80,000 hits/day from Thursday through the end of that weekend on Sunday. That’s sick. Free agency will be comparable. But it probably would have been even higher without the lockout nonsense.

I think what you describe,
all the excitement once a deal is reached, is just a positive unintended consequence that will benefit the league going into the 2011 season.
I can be a cynic with the best of them, so, you did have me going there for a bit.
Just get it done already...
Theres no way this is all just a ploy. Too many pieces in motion. Training camps needing to have space allocated, pay cuts to the coaches, stadium workers and other city employees needing to prepare for the season. Theres just no way that this is all a gimmick.
Past that….no matter how you look at it…..we still dont have a deal. I think that IF you were really onto something, we would be past the point of when they would have pulled the plug.

I did share your opinion at one point though. Maybe not that the entire thing was a ploy. But that this was all being played out a bit. Now, I think we are in such a deep hole that i am actually beginning to fear missing some of 2011.
We’re just so last second right now. And the Hall of Fame game is supposedly in only 1 month.

interesting article on the defense. i’m now convinced that nnamdi shouldn’t be number one on our list because of other needs. rather have two c-cups than one double d.
