Eagles Timeline: 56 hours of Awesomesauce
For the sake of just putting this down on paper (or the Internets), let's just recount the last 56 hours so we don't lose track of all the wheelings and dealings of the Eagles' FO:
July 28, roughly 9:00am - Eagles sign Jason Babin - 58 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 2 FF playing in under 60% of the Titans' snaps last season. LDE, done. Next.
July 28, 2:45pm - Eagles trade Kevin Kolb for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a 2nd round pick in 2012 - Heist. RCB, filled. And a high pick... for a player that if all goes well won't even play next season. Next.
July 29, midnight-ish - Vince Young agrees to one year deal with Eagles - Man, that was a dicey 9 hours in which the Eagles didn't have the best backup QB in the NFL. Next.
July 29, Roughly 6:00pm - Eagles sign Nnamdi Asomugha - Out of the clear blue sky, the Eagles sign either the 1a or 1b CB in the NFL. Next.
July 30, 4:30pm - Eagles sign Cullen Jenkins - Again, out of the clear blue sky, the Eagles get themselves an excellent inside pass rusher. But what to do with Brodrick Bunkley? Next.
July 30, 5:00-ish - Eagles trade Brodrick Bunkley for a 5th round pick - By trading the suddenly expendable Bunkley, the Eagles save themselves $2 million in cap space, and add a 5th round pick. The 5th round pick isn't that great, sure. But that pick now gives the Eagles ELEVEN picks in the 2012 draft: 1, 2, 2 (Cards), 3, 4, 4 (Bucs), 5, 5 (Browns), 6, 6 (Broncos), 6 (Pats).
So that's where we stand. And you know what? I don't even think they're even close to being done. NEXT!

Just need another 1st and a 3rd
to have the most ridiculous draft situation I can think of: 2 picks in each of the first 6 rounds? Would be ridiculous.
"On the flip side, though, Bleeding Green Nation cites a PFF study that says Jackson dropped the highest percentage of catchable passes (19.67 percent) of any receiver in the league last year. I think he also dropped that punt at the end of the last Giants game. But then he picked it back up."

I dunno
Beasom would solidify the lb core. And we’d be great at all levels. Lb unit is the only question mark.

…except turn our shit into pure fucking gold.
I still can’t believe how we raped the Cardinals. And got a 5th rounder for Bustley. And I heard it told that we’ve signed Dimitri Patterson’s replacement!
Q: What do a leaky tampon and Sean McDermott's defense have in common?

I also realized
All the people saying we still have a liability at QB who takes too many chances with his body and feels he has to win games on his own can’t make that argument anymore. Vick will be able to throw the ball away on third down instead of making a run to keep drives alive with confidence that this D will shut down the opposing offense and get us the ball back. SO he actually isn’t the injury risk he was last season at all.
by SHADY RECORDS on Jul 30, 2011 7:30 PM EDT reply actions 9 recs
I think too many people downplay VY’s ability.
What better way to have a back-up to a mobile QB than to get another mobile Qb??
Vick took a beating last year and got up and kept fighting, I think he will do the same this year.

I agree
We are lucky to have a quarterback like Vick who will do anything to win. It’s incredible. I’m just saying hopefully we won’t have to find out if Vince is any good and Mike can choose his spots to run instead of feeling compelled to do something. This Defense is probably going to mean a lot more blow outs. A lot less fourth quarter urgency.
Either way it’s going to be fucking awesome to watch.

The funny thing is…WE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE WON THE DIVISION WITHOUT ANY MOVES!
I’ll say it again…this is the offseason I BEGGED FOR ALL SEASON.
I wanted to jettison all the players who were average but not good. Check
I wanted to get game changers in at positions of need. Check.
I wanted to do it without mortgaging the future of the team. Check.
This is the best offseason ever. LETS LOCKOUT THE PLAYERS AND SIGN A NEW CBA AGAIN NEXT YEAR! lol (that is, if we don’t win it all. If we do…status quo gets my vote.)

Just trying to keep this ship going in the right direction… Actually saw Casey Matthews, Brent Celek, Jason Avant and Juant Castillo up close today… I asked Juan about Asante, and he wouldn’t say a definite stay for Asante… The Eagles might pull a Cliff Lee and trade Asante, and then we’re all going to be bitching… so just calm down, let it all unfold, it’s not over yet, there probably will be more signings, but this preseason is probably more important than any other, all systems must be a go by week 1…

I didn’t hear which team specifically they were talking to. Just that they didn’t want to give up Asante for picks. And I agree. As I have said alot, picks help us next year. Our team is set up to make a run this year. Either keep Asante and keep our insane trio or corners or get an elite LB if you can.

they need a mlb, Casey Matthews is not ready for prime time, he’s just a rookie and just trying to learn the defense right now, and you’re gonna put the responsibility of calling the defense on him ??? That’s crazy…

Yeah but
Willis is hands down the best player on the 49ers and its not even close. Asante may not even be the best player on our defense. Plus Willis is 26 and Asante is 30.
And then their is the everlasting cliche that with the Eagles and LBs. And it be ludicrous to think they would pay $10 million a year for one (even one of Willis’ caliber) when they wouldn’t keep Spikes around for $5 million.
