Hello to all of the best fans in football! With all this craziness going, I have finally decided to man-up take and part in this gods gift to earth blog. Nothing compares to BGN in my honest opinion and not even ESPN has kept up with you die hard eagles fans. All the info about free agency/trades has been told by you guys, I thank you sirs, your all gentleman and scholars (sorry if your a chick and are a smoker, you probably sound like a man). So ya, more after the jump.
We all know what we got in Babin, DR-C, Young, Lee, (Lee) Higgens, and of course Nnamdi but I would like to share my concern and optimism towards these acquisitions from the most exciting free agency period....ever.
I have no reason to believe Andy and co. feel that Babin is not going to perform, so be happy that we got a dude who was as productive as Charles Johnson and his contract is bland in comparison. Their "sneaky ninja plan" has been downright historic...Anyway. When he (Babin) was here in his first stint, I remember a pre-season game where he was pretty dominant. I realise it was second and third string he was against but I felt like that performance should have gotten at least a more playing time. Evidently he got picked up by the Titans and out of nowhere, tears it up. Back with us now, I fully expect him to keep it up because he didn't play very much before joining the Titans and not suffering the abuse from 7 full years of gameplay. Now teamed with Trent Cole on the other side, running at the QB with the only intention to DESTROY...are you seriously serious?? How can't you be excited? The interior DL something to be excited about as well. Dixon and Laws were a surprise to me last year and I hope they surprise me again in our new Defensive scheme, the same goes for Bunk and Petterson. I expect to have a few of our own sleepers, who will produce very well. Tapp for one was a rotational player but even with the limited playing time playedwell. Who knows about Hunt, Sapp, and even Abiamiri. I'm sure someone is going to show all of us we were dunces for calling them a "bust" or "camp body"...hopefully.
There are not many negatives about our secondary now...I can't even put into words how excited I am. The argument can be made that starting two rookie safeties is a huge problem, any many including was worried. How many of you feel better now that we have a triple threat of top 10 CBs? Usually your concerned about having the safeties giving help over the top, which is still going to happen but now we have guys who are lack of a better word(s?)..."Fuggin' Great". We all know now what we got with our CBs and second year safeties but with all that skill, for some reason Jaiquawn Jarrett seems like he can produce like one of the veterans out of the gate. Don't get me wrong, it has seemed like we have always had that mentor at the safety spot and that can be scary but we have some good, young players in our secondary.
I think everyone can agree that our LB are a concern. I feel from what we saw last year from guys like Keenan Clayton, Jamar Chaney and Moise Fokou was a step in the right direction. I know for one that if I see Ernie Sims overrun a ball carrier standing still one more time, I would blow a fucking gasket. Do sharks overrun their pray?? Nope...! but I concur. We will see how this rolls out, I hope that there might be a little trick up Andy's, Howie's, and Banner's wizards sleave...that's what she said!
Typing all of this has really put things into perspective, for me at least. Seeing all the guys we signed has kinda made me feel as if our offense is the weak point of the team, but has just been overshadowed. I only have a few concerns about the O, few that could fuck us in the end. Vick needs to play consistant. We all saw that he wasn't the same explosive player from beinging to end. A lot of that has to d with him picking up the blitz, which had better been adressed in the off season. The right side of the line is hopefully a minor speed bump. I hope Winston Justice can perform like he did two years ago and here's hoping Danny Watkins mauls some bitches. I'm sure Howard Mudd is going to work his magic.
Hopefully some of these thoughts aren't too irrational and are somewhat relatable to you fellow Eagles fans. I can't even explain how pumped I am now that football is back. Thanks a lot for reading and GO EAGLES!!!
