The Linc - DeSean Jackson Holdout No Big Deal?
Frank: DeSean holdout wouldn't be cause for alarm
Even if DeSean Jackson holds out from training camp, there's no reason to believe it will affect his upcoming season with the Eagles. By Reuben Frank

Vince Young is about to hit the free-agent market, and the Eagles owe it to themselves to check out the guy. He started. He won. And he has playoff experience.

Cowboys lose out as Weddle cashes in - NFC East Blog - ESPN
Kevin Acee from the San Diego Union-Tribute reports that Eric Weddle's new deal with the Chargers is for five years and $40 million with $19 million guaranteed. The Cowboys tried on Weddle, who was the best safety on the market, but there was little chance he was going to leave San Diego. Especially once they offered, as Steelers safety Ryan Clark tweeted, "what (Troy) Polamalu and I got combined!"

Exactly
No big deal, it’s actually the Eagles, who should hurry up and get a new contract done for him before friday evening. I blame the Eagles if the holdout goes too long, they have to pay up !
GET! the DEAL! done NOW!
At last count, Jackson’s $565,000 base salary for 2011 is 28th-highest on the team (below guys like Mike Kafka, Clay Harbor, Trevard Lindley, Keenan Clayton and Riley Cooper).
Riley Cooper’s $$$ < Desean Jackson’s????

meh
Cooper will make 617k this year DeSean will make 893k and there contracts were signed 2 years apart. Both are rookie deals it’s not that big of a deal. Obviously DeSean deserves a new deal and will get one I just don’t see the need to rush.
The holdout is pointless, great sit out 2 weeks that will really show the Eagles.
They call me The Professor.
…if I were DeSean, I wouldn’t go anywhere near Lehigh. If he holds out for the entire camp it’s going to cost him what, $50,000 in fines or something like that? If he gets hurt at camp it will cost him millions. Just ask Stewart Bradley about that.

30k a day apparently for 15 days that’s 450k which is about 50% of what he’s going to make this year and 18% of what he’s made at this point in his career. That’s a lot of money and he’s not Chad Ocho Cinco

If he's going to get a huge contract out of it...
…maybe it’s worth it.

That's the Rosenhaus model.
And that’s likely why DeSean hired him as an agent. He didn’t hire him because he didn’t want to get paid.

To hell with Desean Jackson and Rosencreep.
This agent still has a bone to pick with the Eagles. There is no logical reason for Jackson to stay away from camp at this point in THIS season. The Eagles have more pressing needs to address than his pay raise. Playing hardball NOW is just dumb as hell. Lucky for him I am not the personnel GM cause yes he would get a deal and it would happen right before the last preseason game costing him half of what he would get in the first year of his contract.

Fat Albert traded to NE

Dammit. I cursed at my computer. I know that it wasn’t realistic but I wanted him to be reunited with Coach Wash.
That really sucks, but at least we know before free agency officially starts that he’s already traded and we have to look for a d-lineman elsewhere… kudos to the Patriots for making that deal, Belichick is probably one of the few coaches who can get thru to Haynesworth (but don’t the Patriots play the 3-4 as well ?)… lolskins actually made a smart move by getting a pick out of it and preventing him from coming to the Eagles. Now he can be a headache for Bellichick, we probably didn’t need him in our locker room, but he will be a force for the Patriots if he decides to actually play NT.

I would love to find out why people believe Vince Young is a good QB. There are desperate teams looking for a QB and know he’s available yet no team has tried to trade for him. You could argue that they know he will be released but then you get in a bidding war with another team? And shouldn’t the fact that a team with no real QB on their roster is willing to just cut this supposedly good QB?
I mean Jake Locker, Rusty Smith, and Brett Ratlif … those are the guys the Titans would rather have than VY. The guy has never played an entire NFL season. He’s a horrible locker room guy, with bad work ethic and a fucked up head. I just would love someone to explain to me why anyone would want this guy on their team.
They call me The Professor.
This is exactly right. “He’s a proven winner”
Seriously it’s such a dumb argument and it’s like using W/L for pitchers as a measuring stick as to how good they are. Yeah it will give you an idea but doesn’t take into consideration all of what the player does not the whole team.
"They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they'd make up their minds." - Wilt Chamberlain
Eh poorly worded sentence but you get my point.
"They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they'd make up their minds." - Wilt Chamberlain
I do get your point and I agree, it’s a ridiculous argument, one that only the uninformed would make.
Do wins mattter? Sure. Is a QB largely responsible for them? Yes. But a team can win a game just as easily as the opponent can lose it. If that makes any sense.
Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.
That is all.
Vince Young's career record.
33-30
Here’s how he got there.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7752/gamelog
Just for shits, I looked up Bubby Brister’s record as a starting QB for the Steelers. 28-29. Would anyone call him a “winner?”
Q: What do a leaky tampon and Sean McDermott's defense have in common?
A: They are equally ineffective in the red zone.

No, it's obvious
Brister has more losses than wins: “loser”
VY has more wins than losses: “winner”
DUH!!!! Aren’t you one of the smart guys around here?
"On the flip side, though, Bleeding Green Nation cites a PFF study that says Jackson dropped the highest percentage of catchable passes (19.67 percent) of any receiver in the league last year. I think he also dropped that punt at the end of the last Giants game. But then he picked it back up."
Is a QB largely responsible for them? Yes.
My argument for this is simple. Trent Dilfer and the 2000 Baltimore Ravens. Game.Set.Match.
They call me The Professor.
Exactly.
I could use Peyton Manning just to argue my point. For years hew on games in Indy despite an absolutely shitty defense. He was the reason they won games. But I can’t make an entire argument, not a good one anyway on just one guy.
Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.
That is all.
Meh the defense was the reason the Colts won the Superbowl, the Defense carried the Bears and Sexy Rexy. There are a lot more examples of Teams winning instead of QBs. Sure one guy can make a big play and the guy who touches the ball on every offensive play has a greater opportunity to do that.
Team > Player regardless of position.
They call me The Professor.
I don't understand what you're arguing, though
One player does not a team make, howsoever a quarterback the first priority of a consistently successful team makes.
I agree with your overall point but I think having a good QB makes winning a lot easier than having a good CB or RB or LB.
Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.
That is all.
Depends on the quality of the player and the needs of the team
But yes, with all things being equal, the quarterback wins.
I would have accepted Eli and the 07 Giants as well.
Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.
That is all.
Grossman and the '06 Bears
There are plenty of examples, but it’s not the most productive way to win games.
He's a project, no doubt
But the talent is there. You really think it isn’t worth a minimal contract and a roster spot to see if Vick/Reid can’t harness his talent and make him realize what it takes to be a winner?
I sure do.
And you only mentioned Young's mental problems.
He has mechanical issues that make Tebow look like Dan Marino.
Q: What do a leaky tampon and Sean McDermott's defense have in common?
A: They are equally ineffective in the red zone.
"If Roger Goodell was on fire and I had to piss on him to put him out, I wouldn't do it...I hate him and will never respect him."

Here is the reason you need for VY
Vince young is a bigger version of Mike Vick. He has the physical tools to continue to make Reid’s offense potent. you also have to rmember that Young was a an owner decision on draft day Jeff (7 winning season in 16 years) Fisher never wanted VY yet he won inspite of him. 30-17 not 33-30 as posted earlier. Young has the tools to succeed in this league though he is a headcase. Being cut and signed as a backup could be the reality check he needs to get his act together.
To put in perspective what coaching can do for a QB….. Vince young, aside from the mental issues, has the same skill set as HOFer Young. Young in 2 years with the Bucs went 3-16 as a starter he then went to QB friendly team and history was made.
I have been very critical of Young (as a Titan) but I also knew the Fisher was not a coach known for developing offensive talent. Aside from Derrick Mason name a WR during the Fisher era you would want for the Eagles….. Young and a talented supporting cast would be dangerous if he can except that his days as a Longhorn are over and he needs to LEARN to play at this level.

He has the physical tools to continue to make Reid’s offense potent
Bullshit he can run that is true but he can’t throw for shit. Reid may have turned Vick into a QB but he can’t work miracles VY’s mechanics are horrible I’d rather have Tebow and that was difficult to type.
Being cut and signed as a backup could be the reality check he needs to get his act together.
Being benched several times didn’t work but being cut will?
Vince young, aside from the mental issues, has the same skill set as HOFer Young.
Now I know you are joking. The Bucs were horrendous when Young came in and he came from the USFL. Steve Young (26) then mentored under Joe Montana for 3 years. We aren’t going to have VY mentor under Vick for 3 years (he’ll be 31 then) and hope he pans out.
Using W/L as an argument is no argument please show me what VY has done to prove he is a good QB in the NFL. Here’s a hint, this is no such argument. Your argument is that he has potential, he’s 28 and been in the NFL for 5 years if his potential hasn’t found it’s way out yet it probably won’t ever.
They call me The Professor.
Vince Young
Not only can he RUN but he can also pass the ball you wouldn’t know because he has never had any weapons on the outside with the Titans.
The Titans were horrible as well how do you think they got the #1 pick? Vince young went in week one as a starter in the NFL Steve young “trained” for a year os so in the USFL then came to the Buccs and STUNK IT UP. It wasn’t until he came to San Fran and learned the WCO that he showed signs of greatness. The similarities of the 2 Youngs are there even if your belief is different.
As for age… how old do you think Steve was when he got his first season as starter for the 49ers….? Let me answer that for you 31.
I would love to blow up Texas Stadium... With team still in it
Steve Young was 30 turned 31 that season but I’m not splitting hairs. He also had less injuries than Young and less problems off the field.
VY cannot pass the ball I saw that from Texas. VY is an incredible athlete but that’s it. The fascination that he will be the second coming of Vick is wrong. Everyone said that would be the case when he came out of college and he never even came close.
They call me The Professor.
Ok.. I'm awake..
And the Eagles are apparently still asleep.. been asleep since Monday.
Seems like so many teams are getting better. But we’re just staying the same. I know the Kolb deal is taking a while, but can’t we get in on one of these other deals?
Bears, Browns, Eagles
The only 3 remaining teams that haven’t made a move yet (Veteran FA or trade).
All of our favorite offseason targets except for Johnson are still on the market
There’s a time to panic, and a time to be patient.
We’re still in patient mode. Hell, contracts can’t even be signed until tomorrow at 18:00. And if patience means we squeeze the Cardinals for a serious haul for Kevin f*cking Kolb, of all players, then I’m all for it.
We should get a Kolbsmas list post...
just listing who we want… and keeping it updated with who is where… who they’re talking to.. and Eagles chances at landing them.
You think that the Patriots would flip Haynesworth to us for draft picks?
"They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they'd make up their minds." - Wilt Chamberlain
i’d hope not. The Eagles would be paying a tax basically because they are the Eagles
fuck that noise

I’m not even a big proponent of getting Haynesworth but I hope they do flip em. It would be hilarious if Snyder and Shanny didn’t get what they want cuz we threw in a 7th rounder to the Pats. Reid and Belichick already made a senseless trade this past draft and both have a f-everybody attitude. It wouldn’t surprise me if they just did it for fun.

Yep.
I don’t hate the signing but, I don’t love it either.

If he can get 12.5 sacks this year I like it. If Washburn wasn’t his coach last year then I would be more skeptical but he had to have told Castillo and Andy that Babin is worth the risk. Washburn as turned out a lot of good D-Lineman, so that’s how I’m justifying it.

That's moderately annoying
But it’ll definitely help the team in the short-term.
Stupid microfracture bullshit.

We have been relatively inactive about Free Agency(Besides Babin Now)

Do what you do Jackson….
Keep listening to Rosencreep and see what it gets you dealing with the Eagles. I hope you get Shipped to The Raiders for Louis Murphy who is just as fast, bigger, stronger and has better hands. Let’s see what that "top 10″ money gets you when you are expected to produce like a top 10 WR. Last i checked the Top 10 WR in the league catch more than 45 passes a season which AVG out to 2.8 catches a game. Yes 22 YPC is great but that only equals 44 yards a game. Last I checked that is NOT a #1 WR stat line. T.O. 2.0
