Predicting the Kolb Trade

As the Eagles move closer to trading away Kevin Kolb, it appears that the return for Kevin Kolb will not be as significant as we had imagined. Originally, a first round pick did not seem to be a reach for Kolb, but now with the Denver Broncos putting Kyle Orton on the block, it would seem unnecessary to trade a first round pick for an "unproven" QB as oppose to an experienced QB for possibly the a lower price.

Still, the price for Kolb will still be high. Arizona seems to be his final destination. Many people have the Cardinals giving up DRC along with a early round draft pick (not likely to be a first) for Kolb. Kolb has been vocal in his appreciation for Arizona. With that being said, Seattle is also rumored to be interested in Kolb. So what could their offer possibly be? Before the lockout, there was a report about them giving up a couple of first round picks although that does seem extremely unlikely. It has been reported that the Eagles may keep Kolb if they don't like the offer. It is clear that they want that first round pick and a starter but with the market like it is right now, it seems unlikely. Not to mention, Kolb would want a significant extension with his next team.

So what is an acceptable offer for Kolb? A 2nd and a starter? What about a 3rd and a starter? And what will Seattle offer? The Eagles certainly need help at the LB position. What about Hawthorne or Totupu? Will the Eagles be willing to accept a lesser offer than they had hope for to trade away Kolb? If they do keep Kolb, what is his future with the Eagles? His trade value may decrease after this year. It seems almost inevitable that Vick will be hurt but I doubt Kolb will enjoy a career as an excellent back-up QB. How about a surprise team that comes out of nowhere to snatch up Kolb? Seems unlikely but given the situation of the next couple of days, nothing is impossible.

I kinda figured that with Arizona’a training camp beginning tomorrow that they’d do everything in their power to get this trade moving as fast as possible. We’ve all been hearing about this for so long now that its going to almost be anticlimactic when it actually goes down.

Yeah but

If your Arizona, your not just gonna offer up a huge deal to guarantee you get him just to make sure he is in camp on time. You do trades for the long term…not for a couple extra days of TC

I have a beyond epic post-Kolb era post that I have been waiting to release...

…fearing that if I were to post it to SBNation, it would rape the shit out of Kolb’s trade value.

Q: What do a leaky tampon and Sean McDermott's defense have in common?
A: They are equally ineffective in the red zone.

Smart man.

Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...

Wild_Eagle!

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

Looking forward to the post-Kolb era post

More so the post-Kolb era in general.

But here’s an oldie.

You nailed it with that post then and it continues to be right.

With every passing minute, I fear that Reid is going to fuck this Kolb trade up and that Arizona will see Kolb for what he really is. A weak-armed failure who makes piss poor decisions and will inevitably take whatever team he’s on to a one way trip to the fucking basement.

I'm in the same mindset

It’s a fact Kolb has some value on the market. My worry is that it’s looking like Kolb won’t have quite as much value as anticipated and Reid won’t pull the trigger on a deal not as big. But in reality, the deal would be a steal for us anyway.

Eagles FO man, would make for some kind of entertainment if viewable.

The Eagles saying they’ll keep Kolb if they don’t get the right value is straight posturing. they don’t want to lose him for nothing. It’s the NFL equivalent of telling the car dealer you’re more than willing to shop at the place across the street. The Eagles have some good leverage on AZ, but it’s not like they have none; they know we have to deal.

by DLawrence55 on Jul 26, 2011 2:01 PM EDT reply actions

AZ has some leverage

Now with Orton on the block. Jason LaCanfora just reported that AZ are interested in Orton and he would cost less (3rd round, possibly another piece)

by cool on Jul 26, 2011 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn’t be entirely shocked if they decided to roll the dice on Orton and hope to hit on a guy in the draft.

by DLawrence55 on Jul 26, 2011 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions

If they trade him to Arizona

I’d like to see LaRod Stephens-Howling come to Philly as part of the deal. He could be a KR, return some punts, and be a back-up RB.

Plus, it would give the Eagles 3 Pitt running backs.

LaRod is a beastly special teams player.

A lot has been said about his return ability, but he covers kicks and punts too. Must have played some defense in HS because he can hit.

i hope the eagles arent waiting till friday to trade kolb

Maybe they feel that if friday rolls around and hasselback signs somewhere else then they could get a block buster deal from Seattle

by con-vick on Jul 26, 2011 3:06 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

or they want orton to sign with a different team so Kolb’s by far the best option available
