Eagles Bring In Florida Punter Chas Henry

Sav Rocca is one of the Eagles 15 unrestricted free agents. This morning, I had him as the free agent that was most likely to return next year, but the Eagles most recent UDFA signing could change that. They have agreed to terms with Florida punter Chas Henry. He was the winner of the 2010 Ray Guy award, which is given to the nation’s top punter and was a consensus first team All-American.

While I think there's a good chance that Rocca will be brought back, it's not going to be with any real guarantees, so the punter competition can probably be considered open. One issue though is that if Henry won the job, the Eagles would enter the year with two rookies as kickers, which is something I can't ever remember happening. The team drafted Alex Henery out of Nebraska in the fourth round of the draft this year to replace David Akers as placekicker. Like Henery, Henry also pulled double duty as a kicker and punter.

So will we see Henery and Henry kicking at the Linc next season? As the Giants can attest, it can be risky going with a rookie punter.

Great Giants reference. I love Sav but would be pretty happy with a Henery/Henry combo as well

Just for the name symmetry alone I’d kick Rocca to the curb

Henry has a good leg, I'd say it's a little bit weaker than Sav's but he's much more accurate...

Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...

Wild_Eagle!

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

Not to pull a page from the Raider's playbook...

But they started Janikowski and Lechler as rookies. 11 years later, both had great careers

You have been banned from Big Blue View... "trolling the post game stuff at BBV is just classless and a great mark of a tool. Grow up man, enjoy your victory, but try to not reinforce every stereotype of a Philadelphia fan. Bye bye."

Forgot Rocca was a UFA now. Not sure what to think here.

I can see the writing on the wall-

Out with the Old, In with the New

Henery and Henry

To be fair to Sav

A LOT of punters would look a LOT better with eight home games in Florida and road games in places like Baton Rouge and Tuscaloosa. Henry probably hasn’t taken the field when it was colder than 60 degrees in his life.

Can’t be any riskier than wondering if Sav is gonna shank one 18 yds.

Bingo..

Henry’s got a similar leg and a lot more accuracy and consistency

Now, if only we can find a long snapper and a holder with some permutation of names Henry, Chas and Alex we can really mess with the play-by-play guys.

“Alex Chas snaps it, Alex with a good hold, Henery with the kick, good from 67 yards.”

“It looks like the Eagles are giving Chas Henry a chance to kick the extra point. Alex Henery’s leg must be tired from all the extra points and kick offs today. The extra point is good. It looks like Chas is also handling the kick off. Back to return for the Cowboys is…”

I like the thinking

If you are gonna get a rookie kicker/punter…might as well get the best.
