Report: Ray Edwards ticketed for Eagles
According to the National Football Post:
Apparently, the Falcons have cooled and will channel their resources to prevent their own players from departing via free agency. Per Ledbetter, Edwards is likely ticketed for the Philadelphia Eagles. That would make sense when you consider Brandon Graham, the club’s first-round draft pick a year ago, is in doubt for this season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his knee.
As Ledbetter notes, the move makes sense because of Brandon Graham's uncertain knee issues. If the Eagles were to make a play for Edwards, they could also offset some of Edwards' cost by cutting Juqua Parker, who is on the hook for $3.5 million this season.
Also: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie going to be on WIP today.

Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...
Wild_Eagle!
Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

Why? Love Edwards.

He's not that good...
He’s going to command top 10 money when he’s not top 10.. not even top 20 talent…

According to PFF he is Top 10
Pro Football Focus had Edwards ranked at 8. Just 1 spot behind Jared Allen. Trent Cole was ranked number 1 by the way:

Still very young, 20 sacks the last 2 seasons. I’m in. If this goes down, I’ll look at his game tape against the Eagles Week 16.

4 in two games in the playoffs in 2009, and he missed two games in 2010, so it’s still a total of 32 games (16 per season). Total of 20.

I’d rather have a young guy averaging 8-10 sacks the last couple of years, rather than an older guy averaging 12. DE’s drop off fast.
Ok I don't typically count post season play...
But I’ll give you that..

Really, you shouldn’t overvalue postseason games, but they’re still games, and they’re typically against better competition. I’m surprised you don’t see more use of postseason stats when considering rate stats like yards/game, sacks/game, fumbles/game, FavreINTs/game, etc…
Wha?
Yeah, he uses the elipses a lot, but condescending? On what planet?
I’m confused…
To me ellipses are the equivalent of writing “I’m just sayin…”
by Eaglesadvocate on Jul 25, 2011 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions
I think ellipses take away enough from the written word to be used incredibly sparingly
And I’m sure that I share that sentiment.
He's definitely top 15.
Charles Johnson and Ray Edwards are the same age and both very good defensive linemen. The only difference is Edwards is more consistent while Johnson has one great year on his resume, with potentially more upside.
Either one is a no-brainer.
Don't Worry About That
He’ll be the best in the league by the time Washburn is through with him
I like Edwards too. Just hope breaking the bank on him doesn’t piss off Cole. He’s been deserving of a raise for a while.
Edwards and Cole rushing with Asante and DRC in coverage will bring the Eagles D back to dominance.
Edwards...
Doesn’t have very good tackle totals… Doesn’t put up very many sacks (should have more than 8 playing on the DL he does.).. thats just from last season and he barely ever comes out of the game…
Parker had 6 sacks while splitting time with Tapp and Graham.

Didn’t Parker have 4 by week 6, then 2 more the ENTIRE season? I’m willing to cut Parker loose in favor of Edwards

Look at our RDE production last season..
It kicks the dog piss out of Edwards production..

You can't just look at the sack total.
Edwards was also among the leaders in QB hits and tackles for losses.
2009: 16 RS games – 8.5 sacks, 26 QB hits(1st), and 15 TFL
2010: 14 RS games – 8 sacks, 16 QB hits(T-6th) and 8 TFL
The guy is an impactful, play making defensive end.
Very athletic too.
Perfect for the wide 9.

He'll put up similar numbers
in Philly that he did in Minny, so its pretty solid. Hopefully you guys break the bank for him

Gonna have the best D-Line in the League!!!
Edwards, Dixon/Bunkley, Fat Al/Patterson, T. Cole. Throw in a core of solid rotation guys, and a hungry B. Graham once he recovers. Are you kidding me???
Detroit D-Line is going to be crazzy
They have ndamakung suh, Nick Farley, Kyle Vander Bosch, and Cliff Avril
I think they will have the best D-Line next year
This just got me SOOO PUMPED
haha awesome post
I’d rec this if I could.

A lot of people don't like this idea
Because he played opposite of Allen and people think that skewed his numbers. But he’ll be opposite of Cole here, and his numbers should be just as impressive. I’d be ecstatic if he came here.

and then compare to Edwards.

If he's 'ticketed' as the report suggests, these are the two likeliest scenarios:
A) Edwards wants to be an Eagle and will take a fair, but not obscene, market contract in order to accomplish this
B) Edwards has already had boatloads of dough promised to him by the Eagles front office, and will jump at any offer that high.
Sorry, Giants fans. Based on the extensive track record of the Eagles and the Michael Vick Magnet, I’m going to go with Option A.
Supposedly Missanelli said on-air that the realtor
who’s showing Edwards around town tomorrow is the source of this.
not conclusive, but pretty good circumstantial evidence if RE is looking for houses. (Is Wash. Twp still where all the Eagles live?)

DRC and Ray Edwards is too good to be true. That’s why I won’t keep my hopes up and believe everything I read. I’ll believe it when they hold up their Eagles jerseys and pose for a picture with Reid.
Also how is Edwards making the time to meet with the Eagles if he not sure that they want him? Teams aren’t allowed to contact with players yet.

Really?
You think trading our QB for the not-best CB available, and the not-best free agent DE is too good to be true? Seems reasonable to me given our trade ammo and available money.
Asomugha, Haynesworth, Bush, Plax, Hasselbeck, Tulloch, Mikell, re-up Vick & DJax is too good to be true.

I'll take Edwards all day long
The Better are d-line is, the less i’ll worry about our linebackers and corners. Parker is good for his size , but I thought he tended to wear out towards the end of the season.

Cannot wait for the end of this week!!!
Let’s sign the FA’s and get into camp. Things are about to get real
So, if he is the only DL addition
we are looking at Cole – Dixon – Patterson – Edwards as our top D-Line and
Tapp – Laws – Bunkley – Te’O / Sapp / Hunt as our 2nd D-Line
I’d be better than ok with that and can see a lot of potential with that group. I wouldn’t be surprised if:
1- Patterson was traded and Te’O was given the 4th DT spot to open up a DE spot for Sapp or Hunt.
2- Parker is immediately released.
3- Graham is PUP’d to start the season and unless he is 100% healthy by the deadline to activate him for the rest of the season, he spends the whole year on PUP. (This is more about him getting completely healthy for next year than it is about his ability. With this group, unless we suffer serious injuries to a few of them /knocks on wood- we won’t really need him nor have space for him, so stash him on IR or PUP).
Where were all of you when I was campaigning for Ray Edwards a few weeks ago? Ray Edwards would be our Justin Tuck.

It's all about the money..
As long as the Eagles don’t OVERPAY for anyone, they should be able to address a wealth of “needs” through FA/KK. I’d be more than happy with Edwards, as long as he’s not paid more than Trent Cole….
Good point
We also are going to spend right up to the salary floor re-upping Vick, Jackson and Cole, donnn’t worry.
