The Linc - Could Any CBA Deal Be Invalid?
Players Say Owners May Have Violated Federal Law - SB Nation Philly
NFLPA general counsel Richard Berthelsen says that the NFL insisting that the players must re-certify as a union as a condition of the deal may be in violation of federal law and could render any deal invalid.
NFL players, owners wait to see who will blink first | Philadelphia Daily News | 07/22/2011
If I'm DeMaurice Smith, I'd be more than a little pissed off at Roger Goodell and NFL owners. Their suggestions that "we thought we had a deal" make Smith look like a flipping idiot.
Whisenhunt says no Cardinal is untouchable | National Football Post
No player on the Arizona Cardinals roster is untouchable when it comes to the franchise’s pursuit of a replacement for Kurt Warner. You know, it’s the search that started a year ago with Derek Anderson.
New cap rules could help Cowboys, Giants - NFC East Blog - ESPN
We don't know yet what form this new rule would take, but if it turns out to be the case, I predict it will be quickly labeled the "Jerry Jones Rule" and will strike at the heart of the issue of who are the "winners" and "losers" from this long labor dispute.
Lurie: Eagles Heading To Lehigh
Moments after the owners ratified a proposal to end the lockout Thursday, Jeffrey Lurie told reporters in Atlanta that the Eagles will be holding training camp at Lehigh University.

If the on-again-off-again Kolb trade with Arizona is really bona fide, it’s going to be very interesting to see what we can get out of them player wise, assuming we don’t want DRC.
Well, if no Cardnial is untouchable, I’ll take Patrick Peterson to go please.

suddenly my Kolb-Peterson conspiracy doesnt seem so dim

Sorry, but I think it's still nonsense.
“No one is untouchable” is a fairly empty statement. Of course Peterson isn’t actually untouchable. If the Eagles offered something on the order of Kolb+Vick+Maclin+Allen along with all of their draft picks for the next five years, Arizona would probably be willing to talk about dealing Peterson. That doesn’t mean there’s going to be any deal they’d take for him that has any actual chance of happening. The Cardinals are not going to deal Peterson for Kolb straight up, nor are they going to deal him for Kyle Orton or any other QB who would actually be offered for him. They’d probably be willing to move him for someone like Vick, Peyton Manning, or Sam Bradford, but those players aren’t going to be offered.
So it’s easy to say “he’s not untouchable” when there’s no chance he will actually be dealt (certainly not for a QB, at least.)
Thank you
And now enough with this Kolb-PP BS.

Yeah, that’s a pretty common thing to hear a coach say.

I may be wrong here but this is how I have seen the general consensus of the board on differing dates
April 27th, 2011 – “The Cardinals could definitely be considering trading their #1 draft pick in exchange for Kolb. We might have to give up a little extra but a definite possibility.”
April 30th, 2011 – “You stupid son?!?!? The cardinals would never give up Patrick Peterson for Kevin Kolb.”
Do I expect it to happen… probably not. But I think sweeping it off the table as a complete non-option is stupider than bringing it up for discussion
VOID!!!
Recertification
When the union decertified, I thought I read that there was a minimum time (months?)before they could recertify. But I am not certain.

VOID!!!
If one of the goals of this CBA is long term stability then re-certification is a must and anyone on the players side opposing it is being at best short sighted, at worst ignorant. Without recertification this whole summer is nothing but a 2-3 year band aid.
VOID!!!
The players don't want to be told to do anything, but the things they're being told to do are in their best collective interests
They’re playing the part of the rebellious 13-year old. And they’ve got the part down pat!
So Smith
may be upset that he got outmaneuvered? Heavens, I was certain that the owners would let the players win this!
I’ve been reading up on game theory, and it’s clear to me that the owners have worked this such that the players do not have the choice between this and a better deal, they have the choive between this and no deal. Any bad blood this generates will be washed away within 3 or 4 years as the current players are replaced by new ones, and the owners rake in the cash.
Bottom line for me is don’t go into negotiations with those who are really, really good at it (or can hire those that are) unless you are willing to get clocked.
"It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." - Bear Bryant
Unless im missing something the NFLPA can say the CBA is illegal all they want
because the owners said they would not honor it if there was no union. So either way there is no CBA….
Is this just more of a “you cant tell me what to do” fight?
Except that it is federal law
that an employer cannot coerce a workforce into forming a union. I actually understand the owners wanting deadlines, but by setting them in public they may have violated the law by making it a situation where they are trying to coerce the union into reforming.

Federal laws or not this is a complete non-issue unless the NFLPA wants to make this an issue
VOID!!!
That's correct
It’s not like govt agents would show up and say “stop this contract!” It’s only an issue if the union chose to sue over it, which they wouldn’t want to do. They want to get a deal.

The words 'in simple terms' were used intentionally.
Is it technically illegal? Yes.
Will there be a football season if the NFLPA isn’t re-certified? Absolutely not.
