If you read the heading, you pretty much to know what my latest rant will be about. Through the last few months and the last couple weeks as news of the lockout is nearing its end, I have patrolled the blogs and read this quote numerous times, "I am going to find it hard to get back into the NFL again this year." This has been viewed on BGN as well as other sports blogs. I have a hard time swallowing it though...
Although I share your anger and frustration at the lockout and the WHOLE situation, I won't have an ounce of difficulty "bleeding green" (no pun intended) once the season gets going again. I was born and raised there and have been emotionally attached to this team for 30 yrs. As awful as this whole process has been, and I for one have no pity for the owners and players and their large sums of money, we have to look at this less subjectively. We are a sports culture, and with that breeds sports media culture. And we are all at fault. Two major causes have dragged the fans through the mud this off season, the media and business.
As much as ESPN and other sports media outlets say that just want football, they are eating this up. I watched an hour of a sportscenter special on the owners vote last night (to the chagrin of my wife who decided to play angry birds instead). I am not proud of myself and I do think it is pathetic until I came to the conclusion that I am a fish following the lure. Their is no sports fan kryptonite to shield me from this, lol. The media has played this in every way. As Jason has said numerous times, that deadline kept coming and going, coming and going and we kept buying it. It has also gotten to the point where we debate the business aspect of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NFL and NFLPA. The last time I had to vote and debate a CBA was with my teachers union. Even though there is no football, we still are following it and sucked in to all of this. Its kind of remarkable.
Anyway, once again, I apologize for my rant and will end with saying, I am pathetic. HA.
