A tribute to Kevin Kolb
Here is a guy where the Eagles drafted out of the first for (With the cowboys nonetheless) which got Eagles fans furious as everyone thought we were going to draft Dawkins eventual replacement here. A real surprising move by the FO, which of course, got the boo birds going and got the pundits thinking "what is Reid thinking/?"
It didn't get any easier for Kolb as his first "real" shot as playing QB was against the Steelers in week 2 after McNabb got dinged up. At the time I believe the Steelers were the #1 ranked D and Kolb struggled a bit, which earned him criticism. The very next time he got shoved in the Ravens game when McNabb was benched after struggled all game (again, earned him a LOT of criticism). As everyone knows, you don't really get a chance to settle in with Philly, you either perform well or get booed.
The very next year McNabb got injured in week 1 and that's where we finally saw the Kolb that got to prepare as a starter. He ended up playing really well against the eventual SB Champs Saints and beat up in a bad defensive KC team. This is where Kolb got the honors of throwing for back to back 300 yard games in his first two starts, something that's never been done before. It's also where I think he got his respect.
With a lot of McNabb fanatics, Kevin still didn't have a ton of support from the Philly fan base when he was given the reigns. Unfortunately, he got injured week 1 and after backing up Vick for when he got dinged up he didn't do so well. Although he played very well against SF, almost beat Dallas with our 4th stringers, and played so-so against a stingy Tennessee defense.
In any event, Kolb was always VERY professional. Never complained in the media, never let the criticism get to him, never blamed players for poor performances, always said the right things. I think he was dealt a really tough hand from the very get go and handled it very well.
Watch Kolb hook up with Fitzgerald and have a good season and become a star in this league. I'll be rooting for him.

I always liked Kolb and thought that he handled himself very well during all of this. I hope he finds success wherever he goes.

Glad he won’t be our QB though. Never had faith in him as a starter, but now he’ll get his chance to prove his merits.

Well said Joe_D
I echo your sentiments. I respect the hell out of Kolb as a man. In my opinion he couldn’t have handled the situation any better. Wish there were more men of character like that. I still think back to that Raven’s game and remember being initially impressed. If I recall correctly he did a pretty nice job driving the team down to the goal line before that fateful pick to Reed. From there things seemed to unravel, but I feel like things could have gone the other way quite easily. To me, Kolb is going to be a very good quarterback, just not as good as what we have right now. Then again, what do I know, at one point I thought Bobby Hoying was going to be the guy to take us to the promised land. Anyway, we will miss having probably the best back-up in the league.

Good post. We all make a lot of noise (justifiably) about athletes who don’t handle themselves with class, or who are actively destructive toward their teams when faced with adversity (or who do situps in their driveway). It’s good to step back and tip the cap to a guy who handled things the right way.
With that said, trading him is absolutely the right thing to do. Can’t wait to see who we get.

I'm happy for both sides.
And I agree with the sentiment that Kolb couldn’t have handled this situation any better. Fan of his or not, I give him big kudos for that.
As a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, I am happy for both him and our team. It looks like he is going to get a chance to start and either show that he is a franchise QB or show that he isn’t. And he is going to do it with some weapons, one of them being the second best receiver in the game. A precision route runner hooking up with a QB known for accuracy? There really aren’t many excuses he will be afforded. As for my Eagles, it appears as if our front office is going to get away with another steal. Personally, I don’t think Kolb is going to be the franchise QB many think he is and the Cardinals will come away feeling like many of the teams who have dealt with the Eagles in recent memory have felt:
-The lolSkins after McNabb
-The Dolphins after Feely
-The Colts after Simon
-The lolSkins after Trotter
-The Jets after Sheppard
-The Bills after Darwin Walker
-etc. etc. etc.
The Eagles are going to come out of this with either some high draft picks or one or more players at positions of need for a QB who is non-essential to a championship run this year. We really need to get off the FO’s ass because they really have their shit together.
I-C-Y-U-H8-ME
The thing is...
It is never about the QB. Yes you have some that can just flat out play football but you have the ones like we have had sicne reid arrived that look like probowlers. This is the system that they fit and Reid and everyone else that works with these guys just bring the best out of who the get. Another system doesnt always do good for QB’s coming from Philly, thank you to our coaching staff and good luck to Kolb and his future, may we see him soon and stomp that ass. but for real good luck
I like this. I think Kevin gets an unnecessarily bad rap in Philly from people still mad about McNabb et al – yeah, he wasn’t the answer, but after how Vick played, is it really his fault?
He had a decent tenure marred by bad luck, and I wish him well wherever he goes.
And Joe, no mention of the Falcons game this year where he helped lead the blowout?

Once again, what did Kolb do wrong? What is he supposed to do in that situation? Throw the ball away because the receiver might get hurt? Stop it.
“Hey, I’m under pressure, but there’s a guy open in the middle. But he might get hurt, so I’m just gonna chuck it far away.” That never goes through a CB’s head. Nor should it matter. It was a hard hit with an unfortunate result.
I never heard anything on how it was Delhomme’s fault because he led Massaquoi into James Harrison’s territory. Nor did I hear why it was Flacco’s fault that Heap got blasted by Meriweather. Nor did I hear that Kurt Warner was responsible for Boldin getting his neck caved in. In all these situations, there were throws that put the receiver at risk, yet Kolb is the only QB of the 4 who is culpable. Great logic.
Hell, Reid/Mornhinweg are probably more to blame for having DeSean in the middle of the field.

I would ask if you actually watch football after a comment like this, but since you've made it clear you are trolling I'll ask this:
Why bother? (This is in light of your next comment down this thread.)
Kolb supporters make me giggle like an 8-year old schoolgirl
There is such great pleasure in watching them mosey through their limited vocabulary in defending their proclaimed savior. Who ended up starting a grand total of seven games – five in injury duty, one in mop-up duty, and one which he actually started. As the first stringer!
The level of delusion in Kolb supporters baffles me. And thus, I take great pleasure in threads such as these.
I don't agree with all of what you've said in this thread...
…but I have to agree with the “proclaimed savior” bit.
Unlike many of Kolb’s lovers on this board, I watched many U of Houston games. ESPN2 is a sick addiction and in between bass fishing tournaments and ladies bowling, there are some middling conference football games. U of Houston made the cut sometimes. Let me tell you this…Kolb was shit in college. He put up big numbers in a gimmick offense designed to make people like him and Andre Ware look good. Andre Ware had 5 times the physical tools Kolb has (and the QB IQ) and he was a flat-out bust. Kolb can’t throw a deep out, he stares receivers down (and gets them horribly fucking mangled), he misses more open receivers than you can count (although the NFL network tried)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9VeOZqKPfU
And, most importantly, after he was drafted specifically for the purpose of replacing McNabb, he was tossed aside after one half of one game.

This baffles me:
proclaimed savior
Who here proclaims Kolb is some kind of savior? I don’t know anyone on this blog that thinks he should start over Vick at this point. The highest compliment he receives anymore is “starting-quality”. That’s hardly calling him a savior. It seems to me you drift just as far into delusion as those you are out to agitate.
Also, the 'watch football' comeback got old 25 years ago
We all watch football. To varying degrees, certainly. But I’m certain I’m in the top five percent.
It did get old, but it applies when you make a comment about a QB leading a receiver into a big hit like you did.
Brees did it to Bush when the Saints played the Eagles in 2006. Does that make Brees a shit QB? Plays like those happen. It’s not really a gauge of the quality of QB. Someone who watches football would know that.
Quick Question: (EB, I'll know your answer to this, you won't have to respond.)
If Kevin Kolb entered the 2011 NFL draft in April, where would you think he’d be picked?
My Answer: Top Ten: Accuracy, Arm Strength, mobility, beastiness ( boar hunter with a knife),smartness and Pro-Style offense experience brings his stock up, while his issues of staring down wideouts can bring his stock down a little.
Rivals beware
Honestly? I think he's a step up from Dalton,
and with his skill set I could’ve seen Seattle taking him over that guy they majorly reached for.

Cam Newton is garbage.
But he did play against major college competition. And since Kolb is worse garbage, it’s gotta be Newton. I don’t know too many people who would take Kevin Kolb with his extreme limitations as an athlete and a QB over a physically gifted (albeit mentally deficient) Newton.

Why?!?!?
Kolb has better accuracy, maturity, pro style offense experience even before the NFL, unlike Newton, work ethic, and even though he’s not as mobile, he does show mobility.
Newton doesn’t have any of those except the mobilty. Even worse, he is not willing to slide, and holds the football with reckless abandon, as he usually leaves the ball unprotected.
The only thing that intriuges me about him is his mobilty, ability to shake off tackles and sacks and his arm strength. He won’t bust like Jamarcus Russel, but will be a disapointment like Vince Young or Reggie Bush

I'll give you a guy widely critisized who in my opinion is pretty good. That's Tim Tebow
Yes his throwing motion is developing, but he puts up 8 TD’s combined in just three starts, and three more TD’s while not starting. Remember, he put up just 3 INT’s in his starts, which is pretty good for a rookie. Also remember the 23 point comeback against the Texans. Let him develop his throwing motion next year and if he starts, he can put up, 2800-3300 yards, 58%-62% accuracy and 17-23 TD’s plus another 7-11 rushing, which reminds me somewhat of a player that is on our team……

Kolb after college or Kolb as he is now?
Kolb as he is now would be top 10 (if that were possible in a draft). But he went in the second round for a reason (small school, weak competition, uncertain arm strength, etc) so I don’t think he would be a top 10 guy this year coming out of school. However, I do think he would go in the first round this year considering all the QB needy teams.
I think everyone here knows that i am not find of KK the football player.
But I absolutely admit that he has handled this whole situation perfectly. He seems to be a great teammate, a good guy, and very respectful to decisions made by the front office. I like him….But i am glad that he’ll be someone elses starting QB.
I dont think he’s the QB that people have made him out to be.
And i also dont know where i stand in regards to his future success. The better he plays, the worse the trade looks for our Eagles. i would hate in 5 years from now, for people to be comparing Kolb to Peyton Manning and the entire league laughing that we traded him away for DRC and a 4th round pick. Do i think this will be the case? No. But that is why i will have trouble wishing him too much success…..

I am
Again i live in a Houston suburb. Watched the Cougars several times through the years. I was DUMBFOUNDED when the Eagles took this guy in the second round with needs at CB, LB, DE, TE, S, and OL. Kolb will be a serviceable QB in the league. Kind of in the mold a better Rex Grossman, or Trent Edwards. But, He will need more than just Fitz to make a great splash in this league as showed by his performances with the Eagles. And just in case the Cardinal brass is reading this thread.
IN KOLB WE TRUST!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would love to blow up Texas Stadium... With team still in it
I am killing him here...
…because he sucks. But I am going to the Cardinals blog and praising him because I want him traded from here. Because he sucks.
Q: What do a leaky tampon and Sean McDermott's defense have in common?
A: They are equally ineffective in the red zone.
"If Roger Goodell was on fire and I had to piss on him to put him out, I wouldn't do it...I hate him and will never respect him."
--The often wrong (but right in this instance) James Harrison.
Define suck.
I think he is not good.

I think he is bad.
Which is a shade worse than “not good.”

So you're familiar with Andre Ware as well.
