Report: Eagles Could Target Ike Taylor In Free Agency

Stay connected for news and updates

Everyone and their mother expects the Eagles to add a cornerback when the lockout ends. Whether that is spending big on the top free agent on the market, Nnamdi Asomugha or via trade with a guy like DRC, or something in between remains to be seen. Adam Caplan, who we know is close with the Eagles doesn't expect the Eagles to go after Asomugha, rather he's hearing a different name. Pittsburgh Steelers CB Ike Taylor.

According to multiple sources, the Eagles will show strong interest in Taylor once free agency starts. And with the Eagles possibly playing more zone and less man coverage in the secondary this season based on the adjustment the defensive line is expected to undergo, Taylor would fit in quite well.

Taylor is an interesting name because he'd undoubtedly come cheaper than Asomugha, Jonathon Joseph or Antonio Cromartie. However, he is a very good corner who is coming off a good year and has a wealth of experience playing in big games. It would also be a move that makes sense if the Eagles are expecting Trevard Lindley and/or Curtis Marsh to step up as a starter in a year or two.

At 31 years old, he wouldn't be a long term solution and we probably wouldn't hearing chants of "SUPERBOWL" if the signing happened, but Taylor would undoubtedly represent an upgrade. Last year, only 54% of passes thrown his way were completed and he allowed just one touchdown.

With a good bit of space available under the rumored cap for next year, signing Taylor could give the Eagles an above average starter at corner while still leaving them plenty of money left over to go after other possible upgrades.

Speaking of Ike Taylor, who remembers this?
