Keep or Cut: Joselio Hanson

In this edition of Keep or Cut we will discuss Joselio Hanson. Hanson does not have Practice Sqaud eligibility.

Why the Eagles should keep Hanson:

Hanson is a excellent slot corner who is a good tackler and special teams player

Why the Eagles should cut Hanson:

Even though he is excellent in the slot, he is useless on the outside possibly due to him being undersized. If they were to cut him they could give more time to Trevard Lindley and possibly develop Curtis Marsh faster, they could also keep Dimitri Patterson if he were to leave.

My Vote:

Keep him. He's better in the slot then Patterson is on the outside, if there is an injury Lindley can get the spot starts.

Keep him. He’s not exactly money in the slot, more like that fake cash at strip clubs…but he’s got some value

Cut him.

He’s a pure slot CB, he can’t cover on the outside.. Nickel CB’s are a dime a dozen.

That and since we’re pretty much guaranteed to bring in a starting caliber RCB we need to make a spot for Lindley to get some experience and Lindley would be amazing in the slot then eventually take over for Asante or Nnamdi (if we sign him)..

And when it comes down to the 4th CB I’d keep Patterson over him due to Patterson’s ability to play on the outside halfway decently.

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

I’d like to see Lindley perform and see what we have in Martin. Hanson may be a slot corner, but he’s being paid as a outside corner. Just like W_E said, they come a dime a dozen.

Hanson’s just a slot CB, let somebody take him, hopefully Washington or Dallas move him outside and we can torch him 20x a game.

Put Hanson outside opposite of patterson. Hanson will get torched all day every day. Patterson doesn’t get enough credit. He isn’t a starter, but he’s a solid back up.

"Get 'Em"

by FlyEagles15 on Jun 24, 2011 2:00 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Why does it matter if Hanson can’t play outside? Just don’t have him play outside. I’d expect Lindley to improve enough to do that.

Avant isn’t nearly as effective playing out wide either, so the Eagles don’t have hm play outside.

Patterson is a decent back-up. Would u rather have a back up that can play both or a back-up that can only play in nickel packages?

I guess everyone has there own opinion on Patterson

My opinion is that patterson is a decent back-up. He can’t play at a high enough level to start every week, but he is a capable back-up. I give him more credit than u do, but again that’s my opinion.

I think it depends on Lindley/Marsh in the preseason ...

… and other offseason factors.

Hanson makes a lot of money, and if we need that to sign someone, he’s a great place to free it up.

Same time, when in the slot, the advanced metrics sites say he grades out as one of the NFL’s best. And I can’t tell you how frustrating it would be to go sign and excellent corner and have two of them, and then watch the opposition burn the slot every time they need to convert a 3rd-and-6.

So basically unless we feel Lindley, Marsh or Patterson (or someone new) can hold it down inside, keeping Hanson for another year might end up being money well spent.

I prefer Dmitri's ability to be a spot starter and special teams ace over Joselio's ability to be overpaid for a position that Lindley was obviously drafted to transition into.

Being a spot starter isn’t a skill; it’s only about following the depth chart. And he’s better than Joselio on ST but he’s still very replaceable – 6th among non-kickers on ST points.
