Donovan McNabb issues a statement promising a special season in 2011. Despite everything that happened last year, I still find myself rooting for the guy. Here's hoping he's able to resurrect his career...as long as it's with some team outside of the NFC East.

How can he promise a special season

when he doesn’t know what team he’ll be on?

It would be special if he stepped in and won a few games after Vick went out. Aside from that, meh.

Imagine

Vick gets injured in week 17 and McNabb comes in and wins us a superbowl.

Totally agree.

Thirded. I think he still “has it” and last year wasn’t his fault whatsoever. The biggest knock on him is his age, but that might be enough to keep him from getting a starter’s job to start the season. If he gets an opportunity, and the team around him isn’t garbage (see: Washington) I think he’ll shine next season. But I fear he may spend the year sitting on the sidelines behind a young starting QB, or worse yet, still stuck with the Washington Redskins.

by Rujasu on Jun 21, 2011 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I think those are two unlikely scenarios

There are several teams that just drafted young QBs (SF, TEN, MIN, maybe CIN) but will need a 1 to 2-year starter in front of him. And then Arizona, which reportedly isn’t interested, but to date has done nothing at QB.

I think he can find a job as a starter and give himself a chance to play his way into keeping the job. Certain teams, like MIN and SF, are decent enough where if he were good but not great, he could make the playoffs.

The Redskins are committed to Beck it seems.

Whether or not he has it — I think the truth is he’ll never be quite as good as he was in Philadelphia (familiarity, weapons) but he’s not nearly as bad as the Redskins made him look.

ive always been a mcnabb supporter and always will be......

the is a class act and i dont see how people can not like him, i think if you put him on a team like the vikqueens with a strong running game and sum nice young weapons in the receiving dept. he can still be extremely productive, same with SF if gore can stay healthy, i think a mcnabb to crabtree combo could become a good one.

I hope he does to. While I do think its fairly clear that he’s begun to decline but I don’t believe for a second that he’s as bad as he looked last year. Washington was an absolute joke from top to bottom on both sides of the ball and on the sidelines.

That's right.

He could have went to Oakland and helped earn them a playoff spot.

However, how often do the Eagles let good players go? My wife’s a redskin fan, so I watched a lot of their games. That team was awful, but McNabb wasn’t helping matters. He was making and doing things that were very un-Donovan-like. Maybe that’s because of the shitty team around him? Maybe the shitty coaching staff? Or Maybe McNabb lost his magic? Probably some of all three.

by Jason-E on Jun 21, 2011 9:28 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Az

I think he may end up in Az if they don’t give us what we want for KK. Maybe Minnesota, but i can’t see him playing 8 good games on that cheap association carpet they have. He and Fitzgerald could be dangerous in that weak division.

slow clap starting

I believe he can do it. He’s known to be such a dedicated player during the week. But in this point in his career he needs the weapons around him to succeed.

agreed....

i think on the vikes he would be his same old self barring a few steps lost 2 age, bottom line is the guys a class act and the definition of PROFESSIONAL, give him the best RB in the game and sum young studs in Harvin and Rice and i think they could make sum noise.

Eerie and surreal moment....

So I frequent sports bars even with an amazing HD TV etc at home to talk shit, flirt with the girls wearing jerseys ( which is hot because some actually KNOW football), and have a generally great time ie a sea of Giants fans booed me before Miracle atvMeadowlands II..LOVE DeSean for that moment: EPIC WIN!!! Anyways, I run into a long time Redskins fan wearing a McNabb jersey while I had my Blk Eagles Vick jersey on….just the previous year, I had on a Blk McNabb and he was wearing a Campbell jersey… surreal. For the record, I still have my Blk McNabb jersey; just could never burn it OR throw $200 Mitchell and Ness jersey away: EPIC FAIL …Eerie. We all appreciate McNabb, but if he hoists that Lombardi Trophy somewhere else then he will be immortalized and HOF. Say what you want, he gave us 10 HOF like years…just no ring(s). I wish him the best

Despite everything that happened last year, I still find myself rooting for the guy.

Was right there with you. Still had all my Donovan memorabilia up in my eagles corner (helmet autographed by him and randall, cheezey campbells soup 6 ft tall blowup)… then I got married last month (may 21st). After the ceremony/reception the whole groom/bridal party went to this swanky roof top bar/lounge. Sure enough 20 minutes after we get there Donovan shows up and gets a table a couple down from ours.

Normally I would be completely against this but I was still in my tux, my wife was still in her Kleinfeld’s dress so I said what the hell and we approached him about getting a pic… big timed us. I completely understand how annoying it must be to be constantly asked for pictures but you’re really going to tell a girl in her wedding dress no?!?? Will always be a fan and wish the best for him but definitely took a step down at the same time.

Very disappointing

I’m with you on being totally against that :cough:jimmy:cough: but I’m definitely surprised he wouldn’t feel in the least bit honored that a bride and groom would want to take a picture with him on the biggest day of their lives. I mean, it take 10 seconds and that would have been an amazing picture to have for you all. Sorry to hear, and like I said, very disappointing.
