The BGN NFL Draft Championship Round!

Ron-burgundy_medium

Goooood afternoon everyone and welcome to BSPN's presentation of the BGN NFL Draft Championship Round. We've got a great match-up for you today between 'Suck My Vick' and 'Team Kibbles and Vicks'. This one is for all the marbles! The championship belt is on the line today folks and you're going to love this one. Let's toss it back to the studio real quick to get John Madden's take on how we got to this point.

John-madden_medium

Thanks d-jack. I've looked at both teams and discovered that we have a great match-up which means that it's not going to be a bad match-up because that is the opposite of a great match-up. I was slightly disappointed that no one drafted Brett Favre but hey, what can you do, right?! I mean... But anyway. We got two guys on the field today who just do a fantastic job of everything in Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger, they really are just great players. A QB match up like that sure is exciting! Both of those guys can light a defense up like a Christmas tree! But remember, you can't catch the ball if you knock it down so keep an eye on the offensive lines today. Bwahahaha I just can't wait! BOOM! Back to you d-jack!

Wow, that was a doozy. I'm not really sure if I'm going to be able to take in all that brilliant insight before the start of the game! That is one brilliant mind and you just witnessed why we pay him the big bucks, he is just so insightful. But anyway, these teams didn't come together by chance, they've had some brilliant men build them from the ground up. Earlier today our fine reporter, Erin Andrews sat down with Wild_Eagle and Talon Talent and asked the tough questions.

Erinandrews_medium

EA: So, how does it feel to make it this far?
WE: Fucking fantastic is how it fucking feels.
TT: It's feels great Erin.

EA: So it feels good?
WE: Fuck yeah it does.
TT: Yeah, I'm really proud of this team.

EA: So, who do you think is going to win?
WE: What the fuck do you think I'm going to say?
TT: You know, Wild_Eagle put together a good team and I think they're talented but you know I have to say Kibbles and Vicks is going to win.

EA: So who has the best hair?
WE: I don't know if you've heard, but I'm half ginger and that's sort of rare so definitely me.
TT: I'll let Wild_Eagle have this one.

EA: Good luck today guys, back to you d-jack!

Wow! So much insight! As usual, Erin got down to the nitty gritty and asked the tough questions! Now if only she would reply to my text messages.... But I digress. Oh my, the game is starting! And we didn't even get to talk to business insider Ben Bernanke or motivational speaker Dick Cheney! So much material! Oh well, here are your starting line ups for today:

Well, I might as well get this started...

On Offense:

Once again I’m pretty much going to spread out my offense and force him to match up against all 3 of my WR’s. Team “Kibbles and Vicks” will have a big problem containing my WR’s who are all fast and monsters after the catch.

Desean Jackson will burn Joe Haden
Hakeem Nicks will beat Tillman regularly
Julio Jones will have a good match up against Gamble.

Now for my TE’s, Greg Olsen and Owen Daniels athletically are superior to his LB’s. DJ William and Derrick Johnson aren’t really known for their ability to cover.. Also his Safety’s (Nate Allen and Whitner) will have to focus more on the WR’s than TE’s which will cause a lot of 1v1 matchups for my TE’s on his LB’s..

My OL as usual will be good and can match up against anybody in the game:

Joe Staley will handle Mathis.
Lutui will be on Kevin Williams.
Kreutz will help out on both Williams and Suh.
Anthony Davis will be on Suh (very good match-up)
Jason Smith will be on Will Smith.

No doubt about it, it’ll be a big battle in the trenches.

Running backs Lesean McCoy and Mark Ingram will be very effective running the ball considering we’ll be spreading out his defense, and I’d actually throw a lot of screens to McCoy to get him on the outside where his athleticism and my OL’s athleticism can make plays happen.

Overview of my Offense vs his Defense:

My skill players are just to much for his defense, his LB’s can’t match up to my RB’s and TE’s, his Safety’s will have to worry about the WR’s to much to key in on anybody in particular..

No doubt he’ll get pressure on Rothlisberger, but Big Ben’s a big strong guy who’s very mobile so when the pressure come’s he’ll be able to get away.. Don’t forget his ability to run for some good chunks of yardage.

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

On Defense

In the trenches:

Ray Edwards vs Ducasse is a good matchup both will have their wins and losses.
Haynesworth and Tony Brown are just to much for Mankins, Kalil and Jake Scott, they’ll cause fits.
Abraham vs Bushrod should be good, but 1v1 I think Abraham gets the best of Bushrod.

With Talon being forced to double team one of my DLman (most likely haynesworth) that’ll put my other 3 very talented pass DLman in one on one situations which with the DL I have one or two of them will win their matchups each play… And with Manning not being that mobile I’m sure we’ll sack him.

My Linebackers:

Keith Rivers, Barrett Ruud and Urlacher will be my starters.. They’ll be able to do what they do and stop the run and drop back into zone and key in on the RB’s or even blitz in passing situations since my opponent has no TE..

I’ll most likely send Ruud on all passing situations because he’ll be the free man with a direct line to the QB… Rivers and Urlacher will handle the zone coverage..

Curry will get his time in there at all 3 LB positions, I’ll probably try to match him up on the RB in coverage as much as possible because of his athletic abilities.

My CB’s:

I’m matching up like this-

Asante on Fitzgerald
Grimes on Crabtree
Sheldon Brown on Royal.

I’m confident going man with these guys because my CB’s are just that good. I’ll roll some safety help Asante’s way because the only WR that scares me is Fitz and that’ll allow Asante some opportunities to go ballhawk mode.

My Safety’s:

Earl Thomas will spend a lot of the time playing center field and shading towards Larry Fitz. He’s got the speed and coverage abilities to keep up with Larry and between Earl and Asante I’m sure there’ll be enough picks on passes to Larry that Peyton shy’s away.

Moore will be able to help out wherever, he’s kinda a bonus piece, he’s great against the run and very good in coverage.

Overview of my defense:

My team will generate pressure on Peyton, between the DL and the LB’s blitzing we’ll get to him more than a few times.. Also my DB’s are just to good to pass on, his only true weapon is Fitzgerald and I’ll be keying in on taking him out..

When he runs I got more than enough speed and power to stop Steven Jackson and Ryan Matthews.

My running game will consist of Outside pitches to get around his DL

and screens so I can draw his DL in and get my OL past and into the 2nd and 3rd levels.. Giving McCoy plenty of space.

My safety's are Ehh?

Earl Thomas had 76 tackles and 5 picks.
Moore had like 102 tackles and 5 picks.

And with my CB’s being amazing and his WR’s not being all that good I’ll be able to let my Safety’s free lance a lot.

Why team Kibbles and Vicks will win this

Let’s start with the coaches,
He has head coach Jim Cadwell who inherited Peyton Manning. In 2 seasons, he took the Colts to the playoffs and one Superbowl loss. He has an impressive resume, but not nearly as impressive as my head coach, Mike Tomlin. My head coach is 43-21 in the regular season, 5-2 in the playoffs. He has 2 Superbowl trips and one Superbowl win during his time in Pitt. Mike Tomlin is far and away the better head coach.

Marty Mohrninweg vs Cam Cameron
While Marty is a fine OC, I think his success has more to do with Andy Reid’s system then him. Since Marty took over OC duties in 2006, there had been a steady regression in our offensive rankings until last year’s Mike Vick experiment. We went from the 2nd offense in the league to the 6th, then the 9th, then the 11th, until we again reached the 2nd position last year. That kind of reversal in success is not what you hope for your OC to bring to the table. Cam on the other hand progressed each year he was with SD. They went from the 16th, to the 14th, to the 10th, maintained at 10, and then reached 4th his last year there. Cam took a quick and unsuccessful job with the volatile Dolphin’s organization before returning to his duties as OC for the Ravens where they have ranked 18th, 13th and then had an anomaly as the 22nd ranked offense last year. While I think they aren’t far apart I believe Cam’s ability to progress each year gives him the edge.

I am not even going to argue Steve Spagnuolo verse John Fox as while Fox has had his fair share of success, Steve Spagnulo is probably one of the top 3 defensive minds in the league today.

So what kind of game plan am I going to run here?
Offensively, I feel pounding the ball with my combo of Steven Jackson and Ryan Matthews will be successful. While Jackson’s YPC average went down last year, for his career he is still averaging over 4.2 YPC. He also averages 67 percent of his yards after the first contact which is such an underrated stat. Tony Brown is nothing special and Haynesworth plays as he chooses. With Urlacher lining up at WLB the edge is in my favor as his athleticism has diminished enough that he is easily taken advantage of there. When I do incorporate my passing game boy do I have some weapons to play with. Starting with Larry Fitzgerald, I will move him all over the field. Asante doesn’t move from his position so Larry will be able to find wide open spaces as Brent Grimes is good but not great and Sheldon has lost a step. Rolling safety coverage will let me hit Crabtree for sure consistent gains, while the play action pass and double moves from Royals will ensure me some long strikes. My TE matches up great with his LB’s as none of them have the athleticism to keep up with Jermichael Finley. Also including Steven Jackson, one of the best pass catching RB’s, into my game plan will hurt his team as my blockers can control the LB’s and Asante doesn’t tackle properly so he will be Jackson’s target. This is everything I can do with my offense and that is without mentioning that I have Peyton Manning controlling all of this. That means the game plan above can be changed in a spot by the master of audible’s. Offensively my team is looking superb.

Defensviely I may have a little more trouble but I think my team is adequate enough to hold them in their place. First I am going to take away their running game. While McCoy is a damn fine running back who is blocking for him? Joe Staley is good but both Iupati and Davis are unproven, Kreutz was a damn fine center…3 years ago, but he is average now. I like Jason Smith, but he is not even assured of being able to make the move to RT and as we have discussed several times on this site, there is a big enough difference that it might make him ineffective. The biggest glaring need I see though is who is McCoy’s lead blocker? Neither Daniels nor Olsen (who is one of the worst run blockers at TE) are suitable for that position. With this suspect O-line going up against such a dominating front 4, especially Kevin Williams in the middle and Mathis and Smith (10 and 8 TFL last year, respectfully) poor Shady isn’t going to have the room to run. My LB’s are also all able to play the run with equal preciseness. So with the running game locked away my main objective here is to get pressure on the QB. Rothliesberger is mobile but can be pressured easily forcing him into quicker then he’d like decisions. He is one of the most sacked QB’s since 2006 and while a part of that is a terrible O-line, he also holds onto the ball for too long. With Suh causing havoc in the center and Mathis and Smith crashing the sides, not to mention my various blitz packages sending in DJ (5.5 for 2010) and Allen (2 in 13 games), getting pressure on Rothliesberger is a given and we will capitalize off his mistakes. My corners will have some problems with his wideouts but only up to a point. DJax is a very explosive player but he is also spotty. Up and down week to week Playing him tight with Haden and Allen or Whitner will frustrate him early and allow us to mentally remove him from the game. Nicks will be hard to contain on the catch but not because he is a speedy break away player. Nicks is a solid first down catcher and has above average hands but already has shown a penchant for getting injured (5 games missed first 2 seasons). He is pretty consistent when on the field, but Tillman matches up well with him. Julio Jones is mismatched against Gamble as his hands are very suspect and Gamble is quite adept at luring QB’s in before breaking for a pick. Daniels and Owens are my two biggest worries and really only Olsen as Daniels may never be the same player again after some injuries in back to back seasons. W_E misspoke about my LB’s coverage abilities as 2 of them (both Johnson and Williams) were top 5 in passes defensed at the LB position last year with 14 and 9 respectively. Olsen can be controlled by them in single coverage and so whether or not he is a very good TE does not negate’s my teams ability to contain him.

With special teams once again my kicker is better then his. Sure Janikoswki has a powerful leg but his accuracy over his career is 78 percent overall compared to Gostowski’s 84.3 percent. I do not expect my offense to stall much outside the 35 and within that range I’ll take the accurate kicker everyday of the week. DeSean is a fantastic punt returner, probably the 2nd best in the league but he is not a kick returner (2 to his name). Weems on the other hand is excellent at both and will provide me the edge in the kickoff game. W_E may not think he needs to use his punter but no team consistently moves the ball up and down the field. I am a realist and realize to help control the game, field position is of vital importance. With Fields and his 46.2 yard punting average (including 31 inside the 20) even with DeSean returning, I like our chances of controlling field position which is all I need with a QB like Manning.

Finally looking at this matchup I see a high scoring affair that will come down to the draw. In that crunch time which QB would you rather have lead that march down the field? Rothliesberger has done it, and impressively, but Manning has done it like a true professional, time and time again. Give me Manning anytime in that situation, and give me the tools I supplied him on my team.

You do know Manning has thrown 2 game sealing picks in the AFC Championship games and also threw one on a comeback drive against the Saints..

Rothlisberger lead that famous TD drive where Holmes barely had his feet in and also kept them in the game numerous times.

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

You do realize

he has 35 4th quarter comebacks and 46 game winning drives in his career right?

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/comeback.cgi?player=MannPe00

To put that into perspective he is tied with John Elway in that aspect.

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/comeback.cgi?player=ElwaJo00

He is a proven commodity and could go down and the best QB to ever play the game, when it is all said and done. I reiterate, I’d take him any day of the week.

Sorry TT got give it to W_E.

His WRs will be too much for your corners and while I think you can score against his D. I think the high scoring game will ultimetaly lead to your loss.
