Trading for Kyle Orton

With the Eagles ready to unload Kolb when the lockout ends im worried about the Eagles backup QB situation. I think Vick will miss at least 2 games this coming season and im not sure that Kafka is ready. I have a scenario that will bring Kyle orton to the eagles, lets see what u guys think.

Star-divide

I've seen the reports that the Broncos are looking to trade Orton and start tebow, a mistake in my opinion, I think Orton is a good quarterback, and who knows how good he could be working with Reid. So what would it take to get Orton? I not sure what Orton will fetch in a trade but im thinkin the bronco's will look for something around a pair of 3rds. So how do the eagles get orton? The broncos will be switching to a 4-3 this coming season and i have heard them get bashed for not addressing the defensive tackle early this past draft. A lot of people had them taking Marcell Dareus with the number 2 overall pick because it is a huge need. I think that the eagles could trade Brodrick Bunkley staright up or throw a late pick for Orton. This would bring the eagles a solid backup who can win games WHEN vick misses time and the broncos get a decent starting DT. Then the eagles sign Albert haynesworth in free agency and he returns to his pro bowl form under Jim washburn.

This was just an idea ive had, i like Bunkley and would like to see what he can do under Washburn but i feel if this is a trade the eagles could make they should go for it. But i dont know how Orton would feel as a back up cuz he could start else where. Interested in hearing what you guys think of this trade.

There’s no way in hell the Broncos do that deal. Think of it this way – Is Bunkley worth what you perceive is the Broncos’ asking price of (2) 3’s? Is he even worth one 3? Is he even worth a 4 at this point? I’m not sure if the answer to any of those questions is yes.

But beside that point, the Eagles don’t need to trade for a QB anyway. If they think Kafka is ready, they’ll ride with him as the 2. If they don’t, they’ll sign one of the numerous decent backup-types that will be available in free agency.

Jimmy, there’s an easier way.

AR should have to wear a Flava Flav necklace until he learns how to manage a fucking clock.

Posting your first fanpost before your first comment was probably a mistake. Hang around the site for a while, get a feel for what it’s like, and what the expectations are for fanposts etc… then in a week or two, start putting some stuff out there.

I could see the Broncos trading a 3rd/4th for Patterson, but a Bunk for the only starting QB they have on the roster Orton trade is unlikely, unless AR and the FO have blackmail material on Elway and Company.

well

bunkley is our best DT .. hes better than patterson . i dont want him going anywhere

by JIBTA on May 20, 2011 10:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Orton is worth more then Bunk and a late pick

And why would the eagles trade a serviceable starter and pick for a back-up QB when there are viable FAs out there

by CSJones on May 20, 2011 2:24 PM EDT reply actions

because

he hasn’t lived up to expectations and with another sub par year we dont resign him anyways, and I think haynesworth would be a force again under washburn, of course we would have to sign him first

by con-vick on May 20, 2011 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

but we would trade him for a 4th

but not a back up QB who will demand a much higher price then Bunk and a late pick

and we will not sign Fat Al on top of all his other problems he just got arrested he will not be coming here

why would they do that?

or even trade orton without assurence that tebow can handle the load this season.
Kolb for orton is fair. but there is really no point.
they’d be better trading him to arizona or mia. they would actually get something in return for him.
teams don’t make trades to help out other teams, they make them to improve theirs.
they need something good in return for a starting qb who had several 300 yard games last season.
it’s like me suggesting the giants trade for orton with devin thomas and a 5th

you are indeed foolish

I don’t see where your hate for Kolb comes from. The guy is the top QB available when the season starts. That is according to everybody that has anything to do with an NFL team. (an exaggeration I know but it is pretty much a consensus). He has performed admirably in his starts and he has the air of leadership. I don’t see people talking about that aspect of him. His stats are more then fair for his time playing and he is still young enough that you can get 8 maybe even 10 good years out of him. Do I think he can take over a game by himself? No. But I think he can make a few clutch plays and be a superbowl winning QB in the likes of Bradshaw or Aikman. Orton is a decent player but is closer to a Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson.

i hate the fact that you guys act like he’s peyton manning.
he really has not impressed me. orton has more pottential than him to lead a team to the playoffs. and some of the ridicolous ideas, like he’s worth patrick peterson or DRC, are just laughable.
some day if he gets his chance to start, he’ll be an average qb. nothing special, nothing bad.
he is not a player that i think can lead his team to the superbowl.
he will be a good player for a team until they find their franchise qb. but he himself is not one

Listen, I’m one of the few people here who can sympathize with your argument. I think Kolb is going to be average at best as a starting a QB, based on the inconsistency that I’ve seen. But what I believe he’s gonna be is irrelevant, it’s what NFL GMs think he’s gonna be. Right now, lots of sources are saying we’re getting a first and something else for Kolb. I don’t think he’s worth it, but do you really think all of those sources are wrong?

if i were a GM, i’d offer you guys a 2nd and a 3rd. maybe 2 2nd’s and a 3rd. because that is what seems fair, and what kolb is worth at the most.
the only way i see you getting a first for hm is a bidding war and the eagles really lucking out.
someone may over pay by a lot for him.
which i the only way you get it.

especially if you think he could be your future starter.

QBs are the most valuable position in the NFL, that’s why we are going to get more than we should for him. Not to mention that everybody in the NFC West is a good QB away from the playoffs.

If you put Kolb on any team in that division they’ll win. The Cardinals have Fitz, The 49ers have the running game and D to help him, and the seahawks just need to get younger at QB to contend for the division again.

the cardinals need a lot more than kolb. QB, healthy hb's, oline, etc...

the 9er’s you might be right on, they have been one good qb away from winning that division for years. kolb could do that with them.
and the seehawks, i’m not to sure. they need a lot. a defense, an offense. they are good with st as long as leon washington stays there

I think you’re forgetting how bad the NFC West is, the winner of the division last year was 7-9. Kolb on any if those teams can bring them up to a .500 record at least, which means they’ll be in the contention to win the division.

yes and no.

i dont think he would improve the seehawks. they got their qb for atleast the next year.
the rams have a qb who is better than kolb and may be the next peyton.
but he would deffinitley bring the 49ers to .500.
the cardinals need some work tho.
maybe he could do it. but he is not that good. the cardinals need a lot more than a qb.

It's not that Eagles fans think Kolb is the best QB ever...

but he is the best QB available. Blaine Gabbert will never be a good QB, but since he was the best of a weak class, he got a top 10 pick.

Since Kolb is the best available QB this year, he gets more in return.

by TommykUD on May 21, 2011 2:06 AM EDT up reply actions

This

if an awful QB like Gabbert can be a top ten pick Kolb is definitely worth a top ten pick in my opinion

by CSJones on May 21, 2011 9:20 AM EDT up reply actions

Kolb is a veteran, if they are on the same level, that says more about Kolb then Gabbert.

but what I am saying is if the QB market is in a condition today where a QB like Gabbert gets drafted top ten then Kolb should be getting easily top ten pick value if not more

He threw 16 TDs and 9 Ints in a QB friendly spread offense and no one ever heard of him til the draft when he shot up boards because he had the right body type, his predecessor chase daniel threw 39 TDs with 18 Ints in 2008 and went undrafted in my opinion gabbert shouldn’t even have been drafted let alone top 10

stats don't

but if you can perform half as good in the exact same system as an UDFA then you don’t deserve to be top ten or first round or drafted at all. He couldn’t perform in college he won’t perform in the pros i don’t care if he has the perfect body type for an NFL QB he isn’t good at it

by CSJones on May 22, 2011 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions

when it comes to draftng a qb, college performance doesn't

matter as much as your instincts awarness accuracy and future pottential.
which is why gabbert was ranked high. he has future pottential and the skills to start in this league. locker on the other and performed great in college and has great pottential. but needs to be eased into a starting job over 3 maybe 4 years.

I think that

you can judge instincts awareness and accuracy based on your performance in college and gabbert never showed anything in college so I truly don’t understand where people get the idea that he has a high ceiling in any of these areas when he never showed anything on the field

and while it does happen that good NFL QBs don’t impress statistically in college most good QBs do impress at the college level. Even Brady falling to the late 6th round had somewhat impressive stats in college and if you look at the Peyton’s, Bradford’s, Vick’s of the NFL the Top level QBs perform at every level

by CSJones on May 23, 2011 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

yea. you can look at it that way.

but in the end college statistics don’t matter, it’s what his abilities allow him to do. many think he has superior abilities to most in that class. he has the knowledge to perform at the pro-level, and the intangibles to do so well.

He’s a good QB.. If Orton were willing to come to Philly and be the backup QB I’d love it. I personally like Orton a lot.

I don’t think he’s best suited for our system. I would rather have a guy like Troy Smith, or Seneca Wallace…..Someone with similar mobility so the gameplan doesn’t have to change.

I disagree j-man.

I think Orton needs weapons around him. I think he’s in the class of a Matt Cassel, just a guy who takes care of the football who needs some weapons.

I personally feel if Orton were to go to Miami, he’d be the answer for them. Kinda like Drew Brees going to New Orleans, Jeff Garcia in SF, and Kurt Warner in Arizona.

Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...

Wild_Eagle!

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

not to mention

Orton hooking back up with Marshall. They had a good year together.

"I will never have my best season," Brian Dawkins

"There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." Bruce Lee

"This fucking game is over!" Chuck Bednarik

"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth" Mike Tyson

Yeah that too.

Throw Orton out there with their core group of guys, get a RB and I don’t think they need to worry about offense for 4-5 seasons.

I understand that, but he keeps you guys in games even when he does fail.
