What if instead of an overall cap they implement position caps, lower rookie salaries, and higher performance based incentives...
The thing I hate the most is a rookie comming in making boatloads of millions and never producing. Whether work ethic and lazyness is a factor or just plain lack of pro level talent. This should stop. If a rookie is comming in at a skill position he should be allowed a pay of up to ____$. A set scale should be implemented for each position eliminating this lottery payscale we have now. If a guy does well in college and comes into league with a high salary promised, he did just that won the lotto! We all know what happens too often with lotto winners they bust, they go broke living the highlife and being a rockstar with cars, cribs, jewelry, mansions. Now by all means we don't want to become the CFL or UFL, but a guy can make a great living without making 20-27 Mill. I think you grandfather in all players maybe next offseason who already have contracts in place, and say from 2013 on there are limits in place. This forces guys to work hard and strive to get better because not only fame but fortune are truly on the line. If a guy is a huge sucess maybe a fatter contract is in order but the main thing to improve quality of play in nfl "and less I'm entitled attitudes" should be huge perormance incentives... make a guy really earn his millions.
With this current lockout madness, grown men are pissing and moaning about sharing a multi billion dollar pie. That is gross and dissapointing. I'd say I love football more than any other sport... EAGLES football more specifically. However if these guys can't figure out how to split up this enormous amount of $ fairly it seems like we might need to step back and boycott in a sense. Maybe start a petition and let the league and players know we aren't going to support this nonsense as fans. Who knows, maybe they would stay at the negoition table for more than a day before they take a break! The real shame is the hard working guys who make a roster and may not have the million dollar contracts and they probably don't have 5 more years ahead in their career, those guys are taking the real hit here. These guys and the fans are going to be the ones really missing out. I know there are plenty of police officers, EMTs, and firemen/women that could figure out how to spread the weath fairly. Wose their jobs may cost THEIR LIVES... NOT THEIR NEW VACATION HOME.
O well!! I guess we will all wait and see what the future holds.. That is if this wackjob isn't correct and the world is still around after Saturday the 21st. GO BIRDS!
