The Eagles could almost field an entire lineup from the last 2 rookie classes

With 13 total selections in the 2010 NFL Draft (an NFL record since the NFL moved to a 7-round draft), 10 more picks this year, a few undrafted free agents that made the team last season, and a rookie trade sprinkled in, the Eagles could almost field a full lineup from their last two rookie classes alone.  The only positions that would remain unfilled on the offense would be one of the OT positions.  The only unfilled position on the D would be one DT.  And not that the Eagles will likely use him this way, but technically Alex Henery is both a kicker and a punter, so the only special teams position unfilled would be a long snapper. There will be a lot to watch for in training camp this year, if there even is one, of course.

Don’t forget DE Phillip Hunt. Not technically from a draft, but this will be his first year in the league.

Thought of him, but I didn’t want to go down that road. He’s a UFA, so if you include him you also have to include other UFA’s that haven’t actually made the team yet, like Isaiah Trufant and Jeremy Williams.

Put jeff owens at NT and let t’eo play undertackle, which he’d be servicable at.

I would like to thank my hands for being so great, for allowing me to type this post.

Or pull a McDermott and just put Brandon Graham at DT

I'm kind of sad McD is gone

I was hoping I’d get to see Dixon covering Roddy White…

when we drafted him, thought he was going to play DT more than DE

How many of these guys make the team?

Locks

Cooper, Graham, Chaney, Allen, Harbor,

Probably

Sapp, Teo, Clayton, Coleman, Lindley,

Maybe

Hall, Owens, Calvin, Horward

Am I right/wrong?

by Jared's New Name on May 1, 2011 12:18 PM EDT reply actions

Not everyone iis going to recognize that you’re only referring to the 2010 class, so let me first say to everyone – He’s referring only to the 2010 rookie class.

OK, with that out of the way – Calvin is a goner, I’d have to think – He’s less than a maybe. I’d put Sapp in the maybes. I’d put Coleman in the locks. Otherwise, looks about right.

I’d think Lindley would be pretty close to a lock, given the depth/talent issues at CB.

by dweebowitz on May 1, 2011 1:06 PM EDT up reply actions

The Eagles are likely to bring in a veteran cornerback once free agency begins. I they do, you have:

- Asante
- Vet CB
- Hanson
- Marsh
- Lindley
- Calvin
- Hobbs

With Hobbs likely to retire, and Calvin just not very good, I’d certainly project Lindley to make the team, but it’s not a sure thing.

Are you sure Hanson is a lock? He wasn’t exactly impressive last year, even in the nickel package, and seems to be badly exposed when used as the #2 corner. There’s a reason the guy couldn’t beat out Dmitri Patterson on the depth chart. Lindley didn’t wow either, and could be just another failed mid-round pick at CB for the Eagles, but there’s youth and potential for Lindley, whereas Hanson is unlikely to improve.

by Rujasu on May 1, 2011 2:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Hanson was quietly really, really solid last year. That’s not even a joke. Try to think of a specific play off the top of your head in which he got toasted.

I don’t think it was a case of Patterson beating out Hanson. It’s a matter of the two guys playing different positions. Hanson is comfortable (and good) in the slot, but he’s a major liability on the outside. The Eagles weren’t going to put Hanson on the outside when Hobbs went down, so they went with Patterson, and kept Hanson right where he was.

…Bears. God how I hate the Bears and their shitty field.

I think the Bears game was mostly Patterson and Lindley getting it.

Yes, this is 2010. I think it’s pretty hard to figure out who in this (2011) draft will make the team. I would like to think that all of them do, but who knows – especially with a short camp and everything else going on. Lindley is probably close to a lock. Would be odd to give up on a marginally promising CB after one year.

by Jared's New Name on May 1, 2011 1:12 PM EDT up reply actions

All 10 won’t make make it. The Eagles either outright cut or send a few draft picks to the practice squad every year. I think they’ll try to IR (redshirt) a player. Lloyd is coming off a torn ACL and MCL, so he could be one of those guys. I think anyone drafted 1st through 4th round is safe, unless they really crap the bed. The rest have to battle it out.

I would say that Howard is probably. We on’t have great depth at OT

I think Sapp is a maybe and Coleman and Clayton are locks.

No...

It’ll be..

Locks- Cooper, Graham, Chaney, Allen, Coleman, Lindley.

Probably- Te’o, Clayton, Howard.

Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...

Wild_Eagle!

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

Chaney was a 7th round pick

not a (6), like you have

Gah, you’re right. Must have had 6 in my head because they traded a 6 in 2011 to get him.

although this team would get killed

by bsencore on May 1, 2011 2:30 PM EDT reply actions

Haha, yeah. I’m not saying this is a lineup you want to go to battle with. I’m just pointing out that the Eagles made a great number of picks and were diverse in doing so.
